Art by Roy Lichtenstein Bloggerband on fire alert! Who are these Takka Takka people and why are folks falling out of their shorts for them? Well, for starters, they're a five piece from Brooklyn and their lead singer is a guy named Gabe Levine. Takka Takka's new record is called Migration and will be released on July 29. It was produced by Sean Greenhalgh of Clap Your Hands Say Yeah drumming fame and features performances by Bryan [...]

What a beautiful day it is to celebrate America. Hopefully in your town they are still showing fireworks because so many have unfortunately been canceled due to the awesome state of the economy. We don't have any plans to see fireworks today but we do plan to cookout with the family. Speaking of food, last night we went to Luxe (yeah, again , but it really is that fabulous) for the third time in the last couple weeks and our meal was soooo good (in fact we are currently enjoying our leftovers [...]
sounds like it will be a good one. Take a listen for yourself, as this "Everybody Say" tune is dreamy and addicting: mp3: Takka Takka - <a ...

Women the debut eponymous album by Canandian rockers Women is both lo-fi and epic sounding at the same time. It was recorded on "ghettoblasters and old tape machines". Prima gitaarpop. MP3: Takka Takka - Everybody Say Takka Takka op MySpace [...]

Something to dive into the day sheltered. And to quieten your nerves. And for girls. And to have breakfast in a pajama, cos you're a grrl in a pajama. And to throw a smile through the window. And to prepare advertencies for someone special, cos you're cozily today like your bed-chamber. And to bear a good one in mind. Mp3: Takka Takka - Everybody Say
Wednesday, July 02, 2008 So, yesterday I received a message that said my press request for the Austin City Limits Music Festival had been denied. In the almost two years that SOTO has been up I've covered a lot of shows and just about every major event in Austin (well, at least the ones that have happened in the 14 months since I moved here), so I can't figure out why they wouldn't at least give me a camera pass. Lame. [...]

Brooklyn's own Takka Takka are releasing their sophomore album Migration July 29th. It's got bits of world music, from cowbell to gamelan and little sonic bits here and there. It's this interesting amalgam of sounds that I would never have pegged to fit together, but somehow it does. The result is a sound that's semi-meditative and chill. A lot of critics have likened it to indie-music for "self-conscious loners." We've included Everybody Say , which I really like, that has a line which goes, "Who died?/ Who died?/You." a bit bleak but [...]
What's that? A five-piecer from three different boroughs (Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, to be exact) dropping onto SPIN.com like a bird's business, that's what. Indeed, experimental popists Takka Takka premiered a brand new track, "Everybody Say," yesterday! Big news from a band with big potential, folks! Slated for release on July 29th via Ernest Jenning, [...]

We were turned on a couple years ago , by all those NYC tastemakers, to Brooklyn's Takka Takka . They unveiled Takers , the first taste of their upcoming album not too long ago, and they continue to entice you to check out their new album, Migration , produced by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Sean Greenhalgh and to be released July 29th, with this track. Fans of The National and CYHSY will really enjoy this band... [...]

The holiday gods did a damn fine job making sure the 4th of July fell on a Friday this year. Now, instead of awkward mid-week recesses or anticlimactic Monday get-downs - both scenarios cruelly bookended with bleary retreats back to the cubicle - we get a perfectly placed day for grilling, chilling, chanting U.S.A. and enjoying us some music. Hooray America! And like the fast food options available to us throughout our great country, this week offers supersized portions of music-related goodness to those brave souls choosing to remain in the five boroughs. So, for this week's Countdown, may we [...]

All the shows must have went on vacation this week, but there is one good one around town. In DC the Black Cat has Takka Takka, Frightened Rabbit, and Oxford Collapse. Go on down there because everything else seems a little slow...including myself. Photo by Phillip C. Kim mp3: Takka Takka - The Takers
Takka Takka often seem a stealth band on their way to the big time. Since the band settled on a final line up a couple of year ago, they have gone on tour with Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, are putting out a new version of their debut album and have been featured on [...]

After the Jump presents the Forms , this Saturday June 21st, for After the Jump Fest in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY, performing in the early evening on the Main Street stage at 6:30pm. Listen :: Bones MIA: Musically, how did the band form, what past experiences do you carry with you? ALEX: We really just had the inspiration at [...]
The Good: Bodies of Water - "Under the Pines"; For almost 6-minutes, Bodies of Water absolutely rocks us on this brand new track. It's dark and sinister, but it's blended neatly with beautiful harmonies, a strong chorus, and some sick drum work. I've liked Bodies of Water for a good amount of time now, but this is their high water mark so far without a doubt! Grade: A- Rick Ross (feat. Pharell)
Depois do muito interessante álbum 'We Feel Safer at Night', os norte-americanos Takka Takka preparam-se para lançar no próximo mês dia 29 Jul '08 o seu 2º álbum, 'Migration', o qual contará com a colaboração do teclista e guitarrista Lee Sargent dos Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, do baterista Bryan Devendorf dos The National, bem como de Olga Bell dos Bell e Charles Burst. Pressupõe-se que seja mais

We liked the Takkas right out of the gates -- early demo track "We Feel Safer At Night" (still available here ) wedded Gabe's Lou Reedy vocal to a Brooklyn-circa-Clap Your Hands feel (at a time when that wasn't pejorative) making them an eminently bloggable band about town. And while we entirely sold on the full length, the group certainly showed of an ability to continue crafting worthy singles on subsequent mini-releases, including the excellently egg nog-buzzed holiday track " Stars And Subway Cars " and the comely callbacks of " Draw A Map ." But Brooklyn's indie landscape [...]
