I love Hardly Art. Have loved 'em since they just crushed 2008 with Moondoggies, Le Loup, Pica Beats and The Dutchess and The Duke. And though I can't say I've been as enraptured with some of their recent sophomore releases, the good folk over at that label are continuing to make choices that surprise and [...]

Talbot Tagora - Solar Puppets So, not something we normally do here but as i was listening to them this morning, i decided that this band truely deserved another post. That band is the fucking mighty Talbot Tagora . I fucking love these guys. Their record from last year "lessons in the woods or a city" has to be my favourite record in the past few years and in my top 10 of the decade (not that i know what my top 10 [...]
i'm getting ready to finish up a 2-week break from work here and it occurred to me that not once in that period did i have the slightest desire to update this blog. i guess i still don't, since all i've got is this lazy post with a bunch of songs that remind me of the ways i have been spending my time.... mostly video games. lots of video games... ratchet and clank future: tools of destruction (ps3) mp3: kid tiger - future umbrella mp3: daft punk [...]

Lessons In The Woods Or A City , the Hardly Art-issued debut from local racket-eers Talbot Tagora , is not a record one should delve into lightly or unwittingly. That may sound like a turn-off, but it's meant simply as a warning. I want you to know what you're getting into, because when it comes to music consumption, particularly in today's inhale-everything-at-warp-spee d climate, we should be free to wrestle ourselves from its clutches and take the time to smell those beautiful roses across the way. We should spend the effort to dissect-and [...]
Music video for "Ichthus Hop" by Seattle's Talbot Tagora from the album "Lessons in the Woods or a City."

Put down the potato salad and deviled eggs for just a few minutes and click on THIS LINK to read my esteemed colleague Brian's post about the five-album stretch R.E.M. dished out from 1988-1998 for a few minutes. Brian came out swinging yesterday in his Lazy Saturday post, and a good portion of today will be spent arguing or, possibly, cementing his bold statement that no other band recorded five records of material as noteworthy as Michael Stipe and crew during this time period. Likewise, as the concept of the album fades away in [...]

The off-kilter Seattle art-punk trio Talbot Tagora spin and flop sideways in "Ichthus Hop," a two-and-a-half minute song, ostensibly about fishes or at least swimming/moving like one, that's as dissonant as it is catchy. (It sounds like you imagine brain freeze sounding.) The track's collagist stop-animation video looks like Pop Max Ernst and includes spinning dragonflies, clocks, crows, planets, peacocks, butterflies, pills, and, yes, a fish. The song comes from their Hardly Art debut Lessons In The Woods Or A City , but the guys have a number of self-released/etc collections of various sizes to catch up on, if [...]
I saw Talbot Tagora in a basement in the Central District. It made me deaf, cloudy, racked with aural trauma. And I liked it. I was sent this video for "Icthus Hop" off the band's new album that I've listened to many times but failed yet to laud with compliments. The video made my eyes water, [...]

I've been incredibly busy the past couple of weeks (primarily moving, among other things) and I'm just now finally getting settled in. I don't think I've had this kind of incessant time away from blogging since I started this thing, but hopefully things will get back to normal around here. What better way to kick things off than with The Daily Graboid, as this will be another chunk of the last month or so of releases that I've missed. Starting next week I will probably get back to a weekly posting of this, so I'm sure [...]
Talbot Tagora have roots in the Smell but survive and thrive now in the woods of the Pacific Northwest, where they make space rock from planet jazz on their fascinating new record Lessons In The Woods Or A City . They speak now before van trouble in unforgiving Utah. This interview by Vanessa Gonzalez.

Goth Star [mp3] - Pictureplane from Dark Rift ( Lovepump United , 8/09) Pictureplane, the "24-year-old weirdo performance artist Travis Egedy," plays the Troubadour September 9th in LA. His upcoming LP from Lovepump is super juicy. Go over to Lovepump and see what they're up to. Lots of exciting news including a debut EP from DERADOORIAN. Traveling, I suppose it's no surprise that internet services have been a challenge to locate in the midst of the Giant Forest among black bears, international tourists and trees over [...]

As of today, Hardly Art now has seven records under their belt thanks to the release of Lessons In The Woods Or A City by Talbot Tagora . These seven hold some pretty blatant differences. Each release is drastically different than the last, the last two, and so on back to HAR-001 ( In Camera by Arthur & Yu). Despite contrasts across the board, one thing remains consistent: greatness. "Ichthus Hop" off Lessons In The Woods Or A City includes monotonous-sounding vocals backed [...]
Talbot Tagora and Abe Vigoda are currently on tour and it couldn't be a better fit. Both bands have some unbelievable guitar tones; plus, they're both named after old things that young blog readers don't remember. This track comes from Talbot's debut LP, Lessons in the Woods or a City. It's a sonic trip through a post-punk odyssey, backed with an amazing rhythm section--you know, the drums & bass

Talbot Tagora - "Replacing The Northwest" "What's the cutest thing?" "The cutest thing?" "Like, the cutest thing you can think of. The perfect image of cute." "Children." "Boring." "Robot Children." "Too twee." "Like hollow robots. Like those robots that need ghosts to run them. You know, like the ghost in the machine." "Little robot children powered by ghosts." "Yeah, child ghosts." "Like murdered kids?" "Not necessarily. I mean, some murdered kids, but [...]

"Travel in packs. Like bikers. [...]

( Editor's Note: I'm a vegetarian. Check out this picture of Talbot Tagora, the subject of today's review. I didn't put it in the post proper because I didn't want to appear to advocate or condone such wanton fish abuse on the site. I'd like to imagine that the fish in the picture were lovingly returned to the stream from whence they were plucked or, even better, are convincing rubber facsimiles. Either way, I'd like to address Talbot Tagora directly for a moment before diving into the review: Folks: Fish are our [...]

Low is playing Dallas tonight! And we get an interview!! Slow start to the week of live music in DFW, with the exception of the always amazing Abe Vigoda at The Cavern last night. I hope someone went. Unfortunately, I didn't make it. I've seen Abe Vigoda at least three times, and not only do they put on a fantastic show, but they're also super nice guys. The very promising Seattle art-punk trio Talbot Tagora , who I've never seen, opened the show. Their upcoming album Lessons in the Woods or a [...]
