by Amherstdam

StoryCorps has come up with The National Day of Listening : the day after Thanksgiving, you record a conversation/interview between you and someone you love. This could be a friend, sibling, parents, grandparent, anybody. You'll be surprised by what they'll say. You don't have to use StoryCorps equipment (there's a handy-dandy DIY guide on the site) but the StoryKits are top of the line. And your recording will be stored in the Library of Congress. The National Day of Listening is both cheaper and way more valuable than Black Friday. NDL, dare I say, kicks BF's ass. [...]

by The Stu Reid Experiment

Big concert! Talib Kweli and Mos Def performing on the same ticket, so you know that everyone was thinking the same thing: Blackstar! Boy was it sick. Chris will cover it later. First though, Jay Electronica opened with a humor infused set heavily influenced by slam poetry. Really original and clear rhymes. Jay did a great job of warming the crowd up for a highly-anticipated night of hip hop. Following some downtime, Talib Kweli burst onstage and for the next hour he proceeded to blast the adoring crowd with spitfire verse after spitfire verse backed by a heavy, pounding beats.
by Pretty Much Amazing

SPIN.com chooses its Top 25 MGMT Remixes. I like them: "All My Children" ( MGMT vs. LCD Soundsystem ), Immuzikation Immuzikation , a.ka. Athens, Georgia's Alfredo P. Lapuz, Jr., is the mash-up man of the moment, and this extended massaging of LCD's "All My Friends" (basically a mash-up of Steve Reich and New Order, anyway) with MGMT 's "Kids" is a fascinating mix of aging hipster regret and childlike hipster nostalgia. The soundtrack to a changing of the guard? ( DOWNLOAD [...]

It's hard to sit and rehash three days of a festival you honestly weren't that impressed with. But, I realize most of the readers of this site did not have to opportunity attend Lollapalooza, so I'll keep continue with the recap. Day two was the most lackluster of the three days. I am actually consulting my festival guide as I write this to remind myself whom I saw. We woke up late Saturday after a wild [...]

They had a video for Electric before, but this new one is way better. Click HERE to check it out directly on youtube . I have to say I wasn't the biggest fan at first, but they've grown on me and now I can't get enough of them. Their debut album 'Oracular Spectacular' has got to be one of the best albums [...]

And I got to wondering, pondering even, how this could be done. I've had some pretty wicked BOTR posts in the past six months {for a full list click here }, but I wanted to see if I could take this one post to never before achieved levels here on TWF. The thing is I've noticed a trend lately [...]
