ATP Recordings are delighted to announce that they have signed Tall Firs for their next record, 'Out of It And Into It' out March 12th 2012. The record, their third album, sees the core duo of Aaron Mullan and Dave Mies return to their guitar duo origins, echoing the desolate spaces and warm places introduced on their debut 'Tall Firs', at the same time capturing a spirit of adventure and brutal honesty not seen by them to date. To [...]

Noah and Rick of YVETTE sent us these answers to our questions in this next installment of the q and also a series. q: What is the last song you (really) heard? n: A while back I happened on Tristan Perich 's 1-Bit Symphony . It's a battery, a microchip, a couple switches, a volume knob, and a headphone jack simply wired together and mounted in a jewel case. The idea of it is pretty wild - that you can participate in [...]

Back in early 2000, when my first encounter with the term 'post-rock' happened, I didn't realize how you can make post something, that literally happens in the here and now. So I looked it up and discovered that the press calls an album like Ecim by Cul De Sac - post rock - the year, 1989. It still wasn't clear to me. Then I first heard Godspeed You! Black Emperor and started to investigate almost everything Constellation Records [...]

The latest artist to enter Viva Radio's Me+You studio is Glass Rock and, as usual, we've got a sneak peek for you of their session. Their aptly titled debut, Tall Firs Meet Soft Location , defines the band's make-up. Tall Firs coaxed Kathy Leisen, as the band puts it on MySpace, "out of retirement" to collaborate and create the band Glass Rock. And like those by Tall Firs, this album finds a home on Ecstatic Peace. I think I'll let Ted Shumaker, mastermind and radio [...]
+Tall Firs (מי?)

It's time again for my Weekly World Wnews roundup. Why Saturdays? Well, nobody ever comes here on Saturdays, so why should I waste a good post on a tiny audience? Why, that'd be like wasting your dick on a drunken fat chick instead of going home to Internet porn! • Not only does Kid Rock get to have his own line of beer (with nine new Kid Rock-brand brews forthcoming), the state of Michigan has awarded tax credits to the Michigan Brewing Company so they can continue brewing his beers. Many other brewery in the state have not [...]

by chris carpenter & neil roberts CC: I beefed up my hipster resume last night as I added "go to a Celebration/Fashion show at Glasslands under the influence of a class D substance." The event was the culmination of Williamsburg Fashion Weekend , with fashion shows by King Gurvy, SDN, Sodafine, and Treehouse dominating the first half of this long evening of entertainment. I'm incredibly uninformed and out of the loop with the fashion [...]

Ryan(StopMe): I was spoilt for choice this week but after much agonising, here are the ten best songs I could find: B. Fleischmann delivers a swoon-some nursery-rhyme ballad called 'Still See You Smile' . Sit back as the music-box sounds, dreamy Organs and brushed Drums caress your ears for three and a half minutes. I'm mainly choosing the Tru Menace Remix of Daniel Merriweather's Hip-Hop/Soul cut 'Chainsaw' because it's a got a rare guest Rap from Skinnyman . [...]

I had a strenuous day at work, helping to re-price all the jazz LPs in the store. It entailed pulling all the records and lugging them to the back of the store, re-pricing them, and then lugging them back out to the floor and reorganizing them. While that was happening, I had to help one of the girls at the front counter by providing her with $2.99 records that needed to be priced. So I had to lug all those records from back to front and then back again for storage. When full, the LP boxes weigh about 70 pounds, [...]
Love (<) The Dodos - Visiter People went absolutely gaga over this album, and I still think that it is very good, but not the best thing ever. I think the methods of songwriting are very inventive, and the drumming is fantastic, but I was overall kind of underwhelmed, especially considering all the hype surrounding the group. Even live the songs were kind of more drab than I had expected. That said, the songs themselves are heart warming, soothing, and masterfully [...]

Emily Haines, lead singer of Canadian band Metric, played three back to back shows (the latter of which was simply a guest slot with Tall Firs) at Union Pool in Brooklyn on Sunday. I caught the second show. The original plan, as I understood it, was for Emily to play some of her solo material, [...]

Emily Haines , solo artist and front woman of the band Metric will be playing three times on September 7, 2008, at Brooklyn's Union Pool (484 Union Avenue - corner of Union and Meeker). The first show at 7:30 PM will be Emily solo, the second show at 9PM will feature accompaniment by Metric guitarist James Shaw , and the third show at 10:30 Emily will be a guest of the Tall Firs (Ecstatic Peace!). Emily will be playing new solo work and Metric songs in a most intimate setting. [...]

Brooklyn was abuzz before, during, and after the stellar show this past Sunday at McCarren Park Pool . Fans turned out in massive numbers to witness sets from Black Lips , Deerhunter , and Tall Firs ; however, it was King Kahn and his Shrines who ended up stealing the show time and again... Benjamin from LimeWire Music Blog was there: I've been to a lot of McCarren Pool Parties in the past two years, but I don't think I've ever [...]

This weekend is shaping up to be a good one. The heat won't be too bad and plenty of shows are coming through the area. Friday To begin the weekend, there are some huge shows Friday night. Of course, the so called biggest band in the world, Coldplay is in Philly at the Wachovia Center. Opening is Santogold . MGMT is playing yet another sold out show at the Starlight Ballroom with Violens and [...]
