Can't Go Back , the long-awaited seventh studio album from Tanita Tikaram , is an undeniably happy and upbeat outing. But as can be expected from the distincti ve London-based singer/songwriter, there's also a healthy shot of what she calls "sweet melancholy". Part of that dichotomy comes from Tikaram's perfectly slow-smoked, husky alto, a unique instrument that has served her well over the nearly 25 years since the release of her international hit "Twist In My Sobriety" and fi ve [...]
Tanita Tikaram describes her subtly anthemic and soulful new track "Dust On My Shoes" as "a simple freedom song" and a song she says "encapsulates me. "It's also a promising peek at her upcoming -- and oh-so-overdue -- new album Can't Go Back (August 28, Edel), her first in seven years. Unlike the stripped and intimate 2005 Sentimental , the new project, recorded in L.A. with producer Paul Bryan (Aimee Mann, Grant Lee Phillips), promises a larger, more colorful creative canvas for the singer who sold five million copies of her 1988 debut album [...]

Tanita Tikaram , the multi-million selling British singer songwriter who shot to fame with her award winning album 'Ancient Heart' in 1988, featuring hit songs "Twist In My Sobriety" and "Good Tradition", returns with her seventh studio album 'Cant Go Back' , released in the UK on September 3, 2012 via earMUSIC (Edel). Tikaram will release "Dust On My Shoes" as a single on September 3. 'Can't Go Back' features some of America's most exciting modern soul musicians, and was lovingly crafted by producer Paul Bryan [...]

As a general rule, unless it involves a fierce ruling diva from the '90s wailing over a kick-ass beat, I can probably live without the remix of any given song. That goes double for extended mixes, most alternate takes and artists' brand new versions of their golden oldies that are better left alone. It's the main reason why I nearly wrote off Kate Bush last year when she ruthlessly marred two of my favorite albums by her -- 1989's The Sensual World and 1993's The Red Shoes -- with her Director's Cut , 11 reworkings [...]
It's been a good 20+ years since Tanita Tikaram had a minor hit with "Twist In My Sobriety" and sold three million copies of her debut album, but we've been quietly keeping tabs on the brilliant London-based songwriter since then and marveling at the consistently high quality of her sporadic creative output (she's only released one album since the late 90's -- 2005's Sentimental ). So we were ecstatic to hear that Tikaram is close to wrapping up a new (and intriguing) studio project and that over the last couple of months she's [...]

It's been quite the struggle to post lately for me. I copied my digital music library from my computer to an external hard drive and the process took nearly a week! My computer is ancient so that might have something to do with it, but suffice to say there was a lot of music tripping through these wires this past week. It's just short of a terabyte now and I'm not really close to having everything from my library digitized. I'm looking forward to having several copies in safe places and buying a new machine that can handle all this [...]

I normally wouldn't be interested in posting a main stream hit, even if it's a 20 year old hit at that, but I just picked up a 123 copy of Tanita Tikaram's Twist in My Sobriety from 882 and I've been reminded of what a great song this is. So in the next few weeks I plan on playing this out a lot. Also, I've noticed there are a few edits floating around of this but the only one worth a note (in my humble opinion) is the "minimally invasive" Melon edit. [...]
The story of Blue Moon — its transition from a movie song that was rewritten several times to jazz song and then pop hit — was told in The Originals Vol. 40 , which included the first version, The Bad In Every Man, sung on film by Shirley Ross. This collection of 38 versions covers all manner of approaches. There are the early jazz interpretations, most of them with vocals (though Gene Krupa, Django Reinhardt and in 1944 the Cozy Cole Allstars do it instrumentally). Then it became something of a torchsong number in the hands of [...]

Richard Thompson : Hope You Like the New Me [ purchase ] There are times when imitation is the sincerest from of stalking. That’s the kind of creepy concept that Richard Thompson can capture better than anybody else. This song is proof. All Thompson needs is his voice and acoustic guitar, with minimal accompaniment. I will always admire Richard Thompson’s music, but songs like this are why I don’t know if I would want to spend too much time alone with him. Tanita Tikaram : [...]

Twist In My Sobriety (Alf Tumble Re-Dress) - Tanita Tikaram

Tanita Tikaram - Twist in my sobriety ( Alf Tumble Re-dress) [ mp3 ] Just stumbled across this and it totally blew my mind. Alf Tumble's from Sweden and you might know him from the Swedish house duo Bangana and Sumo. This is a wonderfully groovy little smooth electro disco take on Tanita Tikaram's classic. Go forth - and be impressed.

Alf Tumble is "that Swedish dude" known to produce soulful grooves of such funky calibre that would make Stevie Wonder himself go break-dancing. As one half of the SUMO duo, he's been deliviering funky, soulful, afro-latin tracks by the dozen since early 1999. Sumo steadily evolved into Bangana , that strips down the music to the essential parts, cutting out all the vocal involvment and rather introducing dark drums and comsic synthesisiers. Alf just droped us a "back to the deepest roots" re-rub of a soulful disco classic by Tanita Tikaram . Pure [...]

Alf Tumble is celebrating one month without booze with this discoedit. Alf could you please stay sober and bored so that we can get more edits ;) Tanita Tikaram - Twist In My Sobriety (Alf Tumble Re-Dress) (yousendit) Tanita Tikaram - Twist In My Sobriety (Alf Tumble Re-Dress) (sharebee)
It's been more than twenty years since Tanita Tikaram arrived with her superb debut album Ancient Heart and her indelible track "Twist In My Sobriety", a song that still lives on through various remixes and occasional radio play. One of our favorite cuts from Ancient Heart is "Cathedral Song", an elegant track that juxtaposes the then 19-year-old Tikaram's husky, haunting vocals with classical guitar lines, ticking rhythms and co-producer Rod Argent's lush [...]

Tanita Tikaram (born August 12, 1969) is an English pop/folk singer/songwriter best known for the enigmatic hits "Twist in My Sobriety" and "Good Tradition" from her 1988 debut album, Ancient Heart . Successive releases failed to meet with similar commercial success although she has continued to release recordings as recently as 2005. Her style is based on her husky voice, acoustic guitar and

Look, y'all -- We hate to quibble the point, but posting cruddy, "leaked" mp3s of Interpol's Our Love To Admire to raise your profile on The Hype Machine is really, really lame. So is posting track-by-track "reviews" based on the snippets from the website, hoping to imply that you're rad enough to have received a promo. I mean, it's people like you that make record labels paranoid about sending out promos in the first place. Seriously. Furthermore, while I'm being crabby, you know we've flogged the "stop comparing Interpol to Joy Division" line long enough. [...]
