They had Deleted Scenes and Tape Deck Mountain opening. It was fun to open up the big 50 and catch slices of the show. The night had building complexity, building layers. San Diego's Tape Deck Mountain are about to kick off their first headlining U.S. tour, and their dark, atmospheric, fuzzed-out sound is appropriate for the onset of southern California's June gloom. The lo-fi duo's tenebrous shoegaze comes through like a strong storm on the new song "Kellies." As a followup track to their "Secret Serf" EP, the song is a heavy stomper with the drum line driving the rest of the layers.
