One of the best things to come out of the expansion of the monthly RUMBLE parties is the discovery of each city's rising talents. Of all the towns we've set up shop in, which has just hit seven a month, the one I had regarded as the least promising in terms of talented acts, has jumped to the front surprisingly. Right now, the hottest music city NOT called Brooklyn is San Diego, California. [...]

San Diego self-proclaimed "mid-fi" band Tape Deck Mountain will be releasing their new album Ghost on Nov. 17 with the good folks at Lefse Records (that's LEFF-suh Records). The whole "mid-fi" thing is a joke on the fact that the band mixes lo-fi and hi-fi sounds. Listen... Downloadable: Ghost Colony (mp3) The free Lefse Records Compilation is available for download... here . Tape Deck Mountain is on Facebook . Tape Deck Mountain is on Twitter . Tape Deck Mountain has some [...]

San Diego's Tape Deck Mountain is a collection of mostly slacker fuzz rock that owes a nod or two to Spacemen 3 and VU. But really, who doesn't when dealing on these languagical terms. Some, like TDM, just do it better than most. Don't dump God and Church. Do pick up their debut album Ghost when it comes out on Nov 17th on Lefse Records. In The Dirt - Tape Deck Mountain [...]
Put on your best hiking boots and get ready to weather the treacherous sonic terrains of San Diego-based Tape Deck Mountain's debut album. The brainchild of San Diego native Travis Trevisan, the effort, titled Ghost , is the band's cleverly crafted premiere of its full-length mid-fi noise. To elaborate, the LP gives equal playing ground to the hi-fi sounds, like the harmonies and vibe of the Beach Boys, and down on to the lo-fi end of the spectrum, which should be tons of musical dissonance ala My Bloody Valentine meets Sonic Youth meets [...]

...we can't exactly be sure why every Labor Day in Dayton seems to be visited by grey skies and intermittent rain, making certain that no plans made will see fruition. Alas, it is our fate again this year... ...in keeping with the overcast conditions, we offer up new music from San Diego outfit Tape Deck Mountain . While the band's name caught our eye, their mid-fi aesthetic certainly caught our ear. It doesn't hurt either that the band's lucid guitars swirling in and out in sheets of sublime and searing sonic assault sound perfectly at home alongside [...]

Grizzly Bear (feat. Michael McDonald) - "While You Wait for the Others" ; Last we saw Michael McDonald he was tormenting the staff at SmartTech in The 40-Year-Old Virgin . Never did we think we'd find something he did musically cool, but for whatever reason Ed Droste and the rest of Grizzly Bear had him come down to sing the B-side of the same single. Turns out it worked really well and McDonald's voice definitely lends the song an air of something different without taking anything away from it. To be fair this would probably be a [...]

You may recognize the name from the Lefse Record Comp. I posted a while back , and if your memory is really on top of its game, you'll remember how good the music they make is. Tape Deck Mountain is the project of San Diego native Travis Trevisan. Laid off from his job almost a year ago, Trevisan took full advantage of this free time in crafting Tape Deck's debut album, which he claims to be "mid-fi", a clever middle ground between lo-fi and hi-fi. As gimmickey as that sounds, it's true. The music has this lo-fi feel to [...]
