After much deliberation I've settled on this remix today. Classic text book example of how to slowly build a track into a mammoth fucking frothy foamy mouth-watering frenzy. To every aspiring producer/remixer/masher/dj wannabe - take notes. Slow starter with a good long intro good for mixing into something and not being blatantly obvious (although since the computer dj mashup shit, what passes these days for good mixing has regressed to whoever has the most ironic tshirt/mustache/plays naked, etc.) , at 2 minutes begins to build a nice froth by dropping out sounds (the dub technique) and builds until 3 [...]
It was another great year in music. Again, like last year, I can't understand those who insists that 'nothing good happened in 20102, annoying hipsters. It was such a diverse year, full of brilliant gems. I won't go into charts and numbering, but here's a rough overview of the stuff I liked this year. Some of the [...]

Last week, we were invited to a private party and taping at The Basement where Cage The Elephant performed their new album, "Thank You, Happy Birthday." We missed Cage at Voodoo Fest this year, which I was disappointed about. They were one of the top priorities on my schedule, but a certain someone's addiction to college football got in the way. It's all good though, because I don't think it would have come close to the Cage experience we had the other night. I mean, I'd love to see how they tackle a festival, but this "secret show" [...]
Friends, Invalids, Basement-dwelling agoraphobics, lend me your ears! It's time for another Sunday Mix Tape, and have I ever got "the goods" for you. You've probably been asking yourselves why I am not posting daily MP3s anymore, or why the treasures from my collector's slum have been few and far between these past few weeks. The reason is, I've been advised to watch what I post in regards to the music I often share here. Cryptic, yes, but I am not really one to test boundaries. So until further notice there might be less music than many of you click [...]

A lovely piece of ravey-gravy has just come our way and it's from Italian's, Reset! - they're a collection of 5 milanese guys who have been smashing it in their native Italy, whether playing host to several thousand Italian clubbers at their own parties, or flying around the world to DJ alongside the likes of Cassius, Justice, Erol Alkan and Pete Tong. The mix is a decent cocktail of rave, disco, house and techno and if you live in London they will be playing at the Nest on Friday with fellow ravers Jackbeats. More info can be found [...]

ah the shit you can learn from limited release vinyl… so the preslav literary school. established in the 880's. part of the bulgarian empire. a centre for translation. involved in the development of the cyrillic alpahabet. parallels yeah: transference, language, translation, deciphering, unobscuring. noise to music. sound to image. improvisation to composition. making the incoherent, coherent. yeah? consider: a way to make music with no instruments, to record and worship at the altar of the analogue tape, to copy, lift, borrow. as an interesting and fitting aside: the word plagiarism has its greek/latin/bulgarian linguistic roots in [...]

Type records reissues Providence,RI guitar hero and experimentalist Geoff Mullen's latest cassette Bongo Closet. Subterranean drones mixed with manipulated guitars and tape loops. One of the most notable drone/soundscapes releases this year, IMHO. Strictly limited. Geoff Mullen is a hugely respected member of the New England experimental/improv scene, often found in the same circles as Keith Fullerton Whitman aka Hrvatski. He makes his Type debut with an utterly bewitching, secretive set of sounds which were originally heard on a cassette released by the 'Razors And Medicine' label earlier this year, containing six tracks of personal, [...]

My short term solution for my growing cassette collection. Mmm, so many good things are gonna be inside this.
The Music Tapes return after a brief 9-year interval between albums, as wonderful as ever. The video for "Minister of Longitude" was made by Nesey Gallons with Music Tapes mastermind Julian Koster.
ok, so a super quick post about a local kid, Ryan Egan. He's a pretty talented MC from Melbournetown (lovin my local stuff!). He's got three mixtapes out, all released within the past year. To say the dude works hard is an understatement. Awesome flow and his delivery, to me, and i'm definitely no expert [...]

two individuals, fancied up with super Hoodies they perform a classic cassette tape DJ battle this is probably the most irritating Monday Kick EWWA :D

Time for some strange instrumental music that seeped into my inbox this week. It comes from a split cassette featuring two projects taking instrumental music in a strange direction. However, they still manage to keep their sound fun and engaging. The two artists on this tape: FS BLUMM and Bradien . The latter of the two is from Spain and build their tracks out of found sounds, original melodies, and samples. I don't know exactly which is which on "Ponte ATF," but I'm positively sure they share some common tastes [...]

The beards are back, and it's not like they ever really left either. The beards I'm referring to in this instance are on the faces of the boys from Megafaun, one of our favorite acts from the Carolinas. After their excellent album " " in 2009, the boys return with a new EP Heretofore . It's more of the same delicious stuff that you would expect on the EP, and to top things off today, we have video of Megafaun doing a Gillian Welch cover and enlisting the help of fellow folker The [...]
