Photo by Daniel Robson Oioi, lads n lasses, please let us introduce ourselves, we're Kobadelta... We've been gigging round Newcastle for a couple of years but it's been a decent last 6 months for us, getting a few plays on BBC Radio Newcastle, supporting up and coming psychedelic dudes Temples and generally refining our heavy blues brand of so-called "indie-psych-rock" with an added pinch of synths starting to be thrown into the mix. Check out our new single "When It Rains It Pours" for a taster... Hopefully the [...]

Listening to music while writing is almost impossible for me. My train of thought gets derailed pretty easily and, typically, most beats are just too overwhelming not to deter my [...]
Chapter 17 of this Carole King series takes a look at an intimate live album from the famed songstress.

Arbouretum and Eternal Tapestry played a show on Tuesday, October 4 at Metro Gallery in Baltimore. See more images from this post.

[Photos by acidjack] Portland's Eternal Tapestry brought their heavy left coast psych rock to Glasslands this past Friday night, performing three long-form compositions of their densely layered guitar, bass, and saxophone (an instrument that seems to be making a big comeback lately!). The first two numbers came from the band's latest record, Beyond the 4th Door , but the final track, "Doing Your Own Being", was my personal highlight. With its eastern-inflected sax melody, the song is not only compelling, but rare. Released only on the very-limited-edition box set, Not the Spaces [...]

Mamak Khadem - A Window to Color Mamak Khadem A Window to Color (2011) Wrap Mamak Khadem’s vocals with clarinet, electric cello and oud surrounded by a tapestry of percussion and the soul soars. On her latest, A Window to Color, Ms. Khadem breathes life into eight wonderful tracks. Formerly of Axiom of Choice and the solo recording Jostojoo, Ms. Khadem is back to wow listeners with A Window to Color. Bright and bold, A Window to Color is no wilted wallflower of a recording. You might say Eternal Tapestry have had a busy 2011. They've had two Thrill Jockey releases this year, 'Beyond the 4th Door' and the forthcoming collaboration with Sun Araw, 'Night Gallery', and are now preparing a tour of Europe from next month. Here'a an unreleased track from the band: Eternal Tapestry: 'Doorways in the Sand'

After playing Austin's SXSW festival, Eternal Tapestry and Cameron Stallones (aka Sun Araw ) met up for a live set on Austin's KVRX 91.7fm. Now, with Thrill Jockey 's help, here we have Night Gallery . First thing to know, Stallones is jamming keys. Second, the album sounds just like you'd imagine if you simply put the two in a room together. No sonic revelations here. That said, these guys sound great together! Languid guitars and keyboard drone give way to charges of guitar riffs. Eternal Tapestry does particularly well to weave familiar riffs with improvised [...]

When it comes to ambient psychedelic music, this new collaboration between Eternal Tapestry and Sun Araw , arguably two heavy-weights of the genre, is akin to the landmark jazz summits between Thelonius Monk and John Coltrane or Ben Webster and Coleman Hawkins. Putting the names together makes you take notice, but when you actually listen to the end product you’re faced with a new level of excellence. Recorded during the 2010 SXSW festival, Night Gallery is an entirely improvised piece broken into four parts. While the recording holds true to the roots of [...]
Two friendly psych bands join forces on a live suite of reverb drenched psychedelic droning. Eternal Tapestry and Sun Araw, two separate yet aesthetically contiguous groups committed to exploring the depths of reverb ensconced psychedelic drone, have joined forces to bring you Night Gallery, a minimally edited live performance given for a radio session last year in Austin during SXSW. The beauty of this album is its unhurried and unassuming dedication to performance. Both of these bands translate well from record to venue, as they rely on room sound and...

Sunshiny and warm at first listen, Brown Recluse (named after a poisonous spider for some unfathomable reason) is good at what it does - faithfully reproducing the sounds of indie pop giants like Belle and Sebastian and Of Montreal, even Neutral Milk Hotel at several turns. Well-harmonized, upbeat and catchy, Evening Tapestry succeeds at being a fun background album - a good choice for driving or an afternoon workout. What it does not even begin to do is anything new. Chord progressions and stylistic tactics that would be excellent if they hadn't already been done to [...]

Listening to Evening Tapestry, the latest album by the Philadelphian band Brown Recluse, is going to cure you. Maybe you’ve got the mid-summer blues because, like me, you live in Seattle where summer ends before it begins, or maybe, like me, the new romance which seemed so promising in mid-April has already taken an inexplicable nosedive, or maybe you’re broke, like me, and you work a soul-numbing minimum wage job, and you’ve got a car to fix and a bike to repair and creditors that seem to live inside your phone. Evening Tapestry is such a surefire cure-all that I [...]

Two of RSTB's favorites team up to bring out the best in dark, balmy psych. The crews hooked up for an improv session at Texas radio station KVRX and the results appear here on Night Gallery with minimal editing, just a few breaks for flow. And damn does this thing flow. It's easy to see how both parties could find solace in one another's work and the collaboration brings out a heaviness not always found in Stallones' solo work, bringing this closer to the feeling of a scorched Magic Lantern release; though that's no discredit to Mahood and [...]
