The Chicago Sun-Times is a funny little news organization. In the heyday of Swan Fungus (hard to believe it's over, eh?), their online edition syndicated a few of my blog posts. I don't know how it happened, or why it happened, but it did. Stop scratching your head, it's really not worth the mental strain. [...]

Mirah with Thao & Mirah at MHOW in June ( more by Amanda Hatfield ) Mirah plays Dead Herring tonight (8/19) with two fellow female songwriters. She'll be joined by the anti-folk-leaning K Records labelmate and sometimes-collaborator Tara Jane Oneil , who will be playing guitar in Mirah's band, and the guitar drone of Noveller (aka Sarah Lipstate). According to Tara's website , she'll be playing a singer songwriter [...]

Anna Joy Springer's fabulist memoir The Vicious Red Relic, Love is due out next month from Jaded Ibis Press . Jaded Ibis is unique in that each of their books has three elements: the book itself, a limited edition art version of the book, and a musical element. For The Vicious Red Relic, Love , Springer (of whom Kathleen Hanna says, ""There is only one Anna Joy Springer. Only one. Her words take me from kitten to monster and back again in a way only she can do.") enlisted Rachel Carns (Kicking Giant, The Need, The [...]

Elyse Marie Pahler knew her killers from the school bus. Elyse, Jacob Delashmutt and Joseph Fiorella attended Arroyo Grande High School in San Luis Obispo, 195 miles northwest of Los Angeles. Roger Casey attended a nearby school. On July 22, 1995 the three boys took Elyse to a hidden location about a quarter-mile from [...]

Well, here it is, now pulling into the station... the caboose at the very end of the too-long train of "best of 2009" music blogger posts, three weeks into the new one. And, as ever, it most certainly is not a "best of", but simply a "my favorites" - the albums that soundtracked my own personal year. But you knew that.I've said it before, and I'll say it one last time for emphasis: My 2009,

Former The Microphones frontman Phil Elverum, is coming to Louisville as Mount Eerie alongside the brilliant Tara Jane O'Neil and No Kids . We'd already mentioned that Mount Eerie was coming to Lexington's Red Mile on Oct. 22, the one year anniversary of their Louisville show at Skull Alley . Well, if an hour was to far for you to drive to see this show, you have another show Thursday, November 5th at [...]

There are very few things musically that could make my week better than Karl Blau coming to New York, but this week has topped it. Phil Elverum and his Mount Eerie will be making two New York appearances this weekend as well! Mount Eerie released the wonderful Wind's Poem a couple months back, and if you are a listener or reader [...]

mp3: Tara Jane O'Neil - A New Binding So tonight's show in Palmer was a joy to behold. There is something immensely satisfying about wonderful music in really unexpected places. The night also provided me with a distinct "how haven't I heard this before" moment when Tara Jane O'Neil performed in the sandwich slot between No Kids and the collective Mount Eerie mayhem. I picked up her latest, from K Recs , entitled A Ways Away and I recommend you do the same . Brilliant blend of [...]

Mount Eerie (aka the Microphones) have announced a tour. The whole list of dates are after the jump, but the big news is that they'll be playing Todd P's Halloween party. The annual event usually brings some pretty awesome bands to Brooklyn. This year it takes place at Market Hotel with not only with Mount Eerie, but also features performances from Liturgy, Malkuth, Tara Jane O'Neil, and No Kids. Mount Eerie tour dates: 09/17 - Anacortes, WA - Anchor Art Space 09/18 - Portland, OR - Backspace 09/19 - Oakland, CA - [...]
Since we really really really liked Mount Eerie 's most recent full-length, Wind's Poem , it comes with great pleasure to report that Phil Elverum's Washington based project will be spending quite a bit of time on the road in the coming weeks. Beginning this week, the band will embark on what is currently a two month, coast-to-coast trek that includes dates with the likes of Karl Blau and Why? among others. Mount Eerie 2009 Tour Dates: 09/18 - Portland, OR @ Backspace [...]
