Throughout the month of May 2011, Hidden Shoal Recordings is celebrating its fifth birthday. The celebrations kick off on Friday 6 May with the release of its latest free sampler album, Hydrozoa , which compiles 18 singles released over the last 18 months. Pete Barrett, drummer with Hidden Shoal's awesome instrumental trio Tarcutta, will be playing in Melbourne next Wednesday night with none other than legendary CAN vocalist Damo Suzuki! If you haven't already heard of CAN, Suzuki and/or his seemingly endless quest to play random improvised shows around the world with people who have never played together before, rectify this immediately! Melbourne-based instrumental trio Tarcutta are performing live at Loop Bar in the city this Saturday evening, supporting Zac Keiller. Doors are at 5.15, with the first act, Great Earthquake, kicking off at 5.30. Tarcutta are up next, then the Zac Keiller Band headline the night, to launch Zac's new album Start Burning . Promises to be an exceptional show, so if you're in town, head on out.
Melbourne-based Hammond-guitar-drums trio Tarcutta, who released their stunning debut album through Hidden Shoal last year, are playing at Loop bar in Melbourne tomorrow night, Saturday 29 May. It's part of an evening of audio and visual enterntainment called Lamp Lights, with Tarcutta headlining the first batch of acts at Loop bar in the city, along with Zac Keiller, Daquqi and The Boy Who Spoke Clouds. The music kicks off at 5pm sharp, with Tarcutta taking to the stage about 7.30pm.
For all Melbourne Tarcutta fans (and all those soon to be) make sure you head down to the Esplanade Hotel in St Kilda this Friday night (15th Jan) at 9:30pm and catch the band in full flight. You can expect some new songs from the boys which from all reports are sounding amazing. Ok you have to allow me some fun with the post title, now let me explain. The brilliant slice of self-titled magic that is Tarcutta's debut album is sitting pretty at number 13 in the latest KBOO (Portland) CMJ radio chart ahead of the likes of Kurt Vile, Atlas Sound and of course AC/DC. Get the album here and prepare to fall in love again.
Tarcutta are playing two shows in Melbourne in the lead-up to Christmas, both with Jshwa and the Owls. This coming Sunday, 13th December, they're playing at Edinburgh Castle with special guests The Kinship. Then, on Sunday 20th December they're playing at Bar Open with special guests Winternationale, the new project of The Spheres' Guy Harris. Tarcutta's self-titled debut album will be available on CD at both shows, or you can grab it in CD and mp3 format from the Hidden Shoal Store .
