Target Market www.myspace.com/targetmarket Since releasing 2006's No Thrills , Target Market has gone through quite the metamorphosis in terms of lineup and musical direction. Recent live performances have found the band leaving behind most of its spastic post-rock in favor of a more hook-driven indie-pop sound that draws more from the simple genius of Lou Reed than complex Midwest mathiness. But danceable grooves, deceptively complex drum patterns and inventive melodies still serve the band well and should fuel its upcoming album, which is expected later this year. -- Shae Moseley [...]
Amy Winehouse is beginning to rival Axl Rose in the show cancellation department. Winehouse's latest cancellation came at LA's Spaceland this week. The singer was apparently "too sad" to perform, apparently still stung from a recent break up. Maybe I'm just too much of a pop nerd to really appreciate it; I need melody to keep my attention. That's probably why I love the catchy Franz Ferdinand songs so much, and why bands like Target Market are so much fun to hear. This band has the aesthetic and the melodies,...
