If you're in Halifax and reading this, I have to assume you're already planning on attending some or all of the HPX festivities, but what of the folks coming from away? People do come from away for HPX, right (I'd ask for someone to tell us if they're coming to their first HPX [...]

Mainly, because they are the first ladies to contribute to the series, and because their mix is fantastic. I've been listening to it all morning. I really want to keep the series going this year, it gives me the opportunity to put all these National Geographic scans to good use! The ladies included tracks from Carly Simon and Kate Bush among others - it seemed to reflect their aesthetic perfectly: otherworldy, synth pop beats, and earthy folk harmonies. Just say it wasn't dance music. Their set was very indie dark folk-noir music. Apparently they had sound difficulties during the set but manage to pull it off. Very [...]

The masked bassist and of the two twin sisters (on classical guitar) played from folding chairs while the drummer from Austra tweaked knobs and buttons in the back. The style Immediately harkened the playful feminine mysticism of Bat for Lashes, Cocorosie, Cibelle, Stevie Nicks, and Lavender Diamond. And though they risked losing people by singing like choir girls about contemplating snakes, golden flames, and drink, the packed room was transfixed... and remained so until the end. Those shows also felt utterly jam-packed - because they were - making it unlikely that the club circuit would be able to serve his ever-growing audience for very long.
