A throbbing, gloriously saturated " real-time experiment " recorded this month & posted yesterday underlines the assured daring throughout Stephen Vitiello 's work - & sends these ears back to his notably rich (&, unusually, almost always downloadable) SoundCloud . Other highlights include rewarding, burbling collaborations with/ remixes of 12k fellow travellers Molly Berg , Marcus Fischer (augmented with the Twilight Zone, thanks to Vitiello...) &, of course, Taylor Deupree . A sextet of tracks these ears would have been much the poorer for not having heard. Mostly from new or imminent releases ( Pascal Savy 's ravishing warm flood of an EP, Liminal [Feedback Loop], David Wenngren & Christopher Bissonnette 's deep journeying, darkly glowing The Meridians of Longitude and Parallels of Latitude [Home Normal] & Illuha 's delicate, faintly off-kilter [...]

The transfer window may have closed, but Premier League talent - Taylor Deupree ! Steinbruechel ! Simon Scott ! - converges on our old friends ISAN as each contributes a remix of the pair's gently, twinklingly unfolding 'composite', an installation tone poem, all then packaged into a ravishing 12" for Scott's keshhhhhh label. Hear all four compelling takes on the lambent original in a single preview below. [...]

Admirable curation by Keith Kenniff ( Helios , Goldmund ) of an album to benefit Japanese relief efforts . This instant compilation on his Unseen label, featuring a raft of ambient/neo-classicists (Biosphere, Taylor Deupree, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Sawako, Ryan Teague...), will already be out next week - with a physical release to follow. Hear two lovely, unadorned [...]

Scott Cortez floats free from the de rigueur digital means of production of our age, continuing to navigate by lo-fi colour - guitar-wrought, loop-pedal-refracted, 4-track cassette-captured. Twin Radiant Flux may be a reheat of unreleased material from 1997-1999, but it feels very much in-the-now, a tribute to the musicianly imagination of The Artist Formerly Known As [...]

Xela : black lazer echos in rusty warehouse, harmonic ghosts haunt drippy caves, tectonic plate shift, mouth of hell opens wide, crumbling apocalypse Taylor Deupree : yellow leaf drone, gauzy uphill water, muffled papers shuffle, forest heartbeat, distant birds, suspended dust in a sunset lit attic Lawrence English : eye of the tornado, glass bottles & cellar doors bash your skull, visceral static bliss, squawking puffins, waves crash, fucking loud as fuck Xela Taylor Deupree [...]

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] I wanted to start this week off with some music that will gradually help ease you thru the day with some must own records. Taylor Deupree has a 4 song gem of an LP that came out in June, as you can see above the artwork is simple and inviting just like the track. This weekend I spent most of my listening time with the new Bvdub LP, I guaranteed I'll be posting another song from this album, its like taking the gentlest Cocteau [...]
Taylor Deupree doesn't work quickly. In the three years that have passed since the release of the majestic Northern, there have been but a few short releases of new material- the Weather and Worn 123, the Snow (Dusk, Dawn) and 1am CDs, and the Live:Mapping download. Maybe he was waiting for inspiration. Maybe his other [...]

This is a powerfully hypnosedative song. I should know, because I listen to a lot of this sort of shit, you see, *snorkle* ugh yeah I am very well placed to write about songs you can fall asl....*snurp* asleep to....*snerpederp* to because i love ambient musi................zzzzzzzzzZ ZZZZZZZZZZ [Fuck off crows - fuck off!!! Luister of [...]
Over the last year, 12k has consolidated its position as the home of immaculately-produced electronic composition, and its forthcoming release schedule (a new Seaworthy and Lawrence English are imminent) suggests that it may well well continue to enhance its reputation this year. Before we get to those, a couple of very curious artefacts kick [...]

Taylor Deupree, a "minimalist/experimental/am bient" musician (according to his MySpace ), who took a polaroid every day of 2008, is now giving sound the same treatment. Deupree will carry a small recorder with him every day of 2009 and record a bit of his everyday life. He says the project allows him to see the beauty in seemingly minute and looked-over things and I couldn't love that idea any more! He recorded a cat snoring!! You can see his blog here and enjoy the artsy. Posted in Special Tagged: blog, sound, Taylor Deupree
MUSIC NEWS - There's been some discussion about how original the cover for the new U2 album, NO LINE ON THE HORIZION really is. Seems that US Electronic artist Taylor Deupree, who with Richard Chartier released an album called Specification.Fifteen several years ago on the L-NE label originally used the same seascape image. Called Boden Sea, Uttwil, it was designed by Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto. Mr Deupree has been especially vocal, even calling the Irish group's cover a 'rip-off', but not planning any legal action. See Deupree's post in the 12kblog asking; 'U2 Album Cover? Have I Seen This Before?'. [...]
Perhaps understandably, Taylor Deupree is a bit annoyed that U2's No Line On The Horizon album sleeve looks a bit (i.e. exactly, except with a superimposed equals sign) like one of his records: for those who don't know what i'm ranting about, U2's forthcoming album "no line on the horizon" is nearly an exact rip-off of mine and richard chartier's "specification.fifteen" which came out a couple of years ago. both covers feature a photograph by Japanese photographer Hiroshi Sugimoto. "specification.fifteen" was created directly in conjunction with Sugimoto and his retrospective at the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington [...]

I've been slowly working my way through 12K Records' remarkable catalog, and my attentions recently wandered to Moskitoo's album Drape , the first full-length from the lovely Japanese graphic-designer-turned-musici an. All the songs were given the master touch by 12K's wunderkind Taylor Deupree, and are bouyant with the typical aspects of a 12K release--lonely pianos, percussive clicks and snaps, and atmospheric chirping, gurgling, and buzzing. But Drape stands apart with an idiosyncratic energy that's in contrast with the output of 12K's mostly ambient/IDM collective, and the vocals float, ethereal and Cacoy -like, above her delicately-woven compositions. [...]

12K Recs continues to impress me the more I familiarize myself with their catalogue and philosophy. For instance, I thought that "Term"--a sublabel of 12K that offers free music exclusively--was a really awesome discovery, and one of Term's coolest offerings is the Post_Piano 2 Open Remix Project, spearheaded by (occassional Christopher Willits collaborator) Taylor Deupree and Kenneth Kirschner. PP2OR is actually a riff on the Post Piano album by Deupree + Kirschner, which itself used a "sketch" by Kirschner ("Novermber 11 2003") as the source material/starting point for new tracks. Out of hundreds of submissions, twenty-one tracks made [...]
