This week brought the longest day of the year. And yet, I there seems to be less and less time to get shit done. No excuse for not keepin' up on what's güt. So here's the latest. Enjoy thoroughly. Mount Moriah "Lament" from s/t Eleanor Friedberger "My Mistakes" from Last Summer Rites "Unlikely Rare" from Demos Rüfüs "We Left" from RÜFÜS EP [...]
I just listened to this song for the first time in a very long time and oh my goodness: BIG FEELINGS. Just go ahead and see if you can listen without wanting to tear your chest open and smear what's inside all over the walls. I went to see Team Dresch on their reunion tour a few years ago and it was a sight to behold. Not just the band- who were obviously excellent and riveting- but also the crowd. Dykes in the pit with fists triumphant in the air, singing every single word, faces upturned with a [...]

Hey Chicago! I'll be DJing (along with DJ Ang G ) all of your favorite riot grrrl, queercore, afropunk, local punk, and other "rocking tunes" tonight at Exit (1315 W. North Ave.)! I don't know about you, but I'm really excited to hear these songs blasted out of a speaker system that's NOT in my living room. So tell me your favorite riot grrrl songs and come hang out with us tonight! (and here are a couple of my favorites to get you excited) [...]

I spent the last week volunteering with Girls Rock! Chicago , and I can't even begin to say how amazing it was. Really, I'm speechless. To watch 70 young women develop their self-image over a short week, create bands, make friends, learn about themselves and how awesome they are is just incredible. Super empowering to all involved. I thought it would make me feel older than I do already, but really being around these girls reminded me that I'm still 100% young and awesome too. We all forget sometimes, even the most hardcore of us. I [...]

Portland, Oregon has always been a music town: It's notable for being the birthplace of the Kingsmen's "Louie, Louie" and the longtime home of famed singer-song...writer Elliott Smith. But much of the city's rich musical history involves influential bands, rather than [...]

Plans to bring the humor and polemic nationwide in '09 are at hand, while lead single "Red State/Blue State" awaits you behind this LINK . " Gretchen Phillips is a living lesbian legend." – The Advocate "It's a rare human who can talk about heteronormativity and Badfinger in one interview. But Gretchen Phillips is no run-of-the-mill lesbian folk singer." – Girlfriends Magazine "One of the most warped, wonderful songwriting talents in our [...]
Ah, queercore, we're talking about you yet again. If you were young and gay in the mid 90s you probably have extremely fond memories of Team Dresch . Probably the single most important queercore band, not only for being recognized as the band that helped bring the movement to the forefront of indie music for a short time, but also because of the fact that Donna Dresch and Jody Bleyle were both running labels that were focused on releasing good music, most of it queer. Also, the members of Team Dresch were all extremely talented musicians and that set [...]
