Photo source: Facebook What's going on in the world of indie music here in New York City this week? After a recent opening gig for with Girls , Real Estate is playing a $5 show near their home across the Hudson in Jersey, both Chairlift and Cloud Nothings are both playing in support of their new records (not the same place/time), and, among other things, Antony and the Johnsons is hitting the stage at Radio City Music Hall. Thanks [...]
Warning: the infectious hooks of "Ronald Reagan's Cousin" could have you dancing on your desk with Team Genius instantly without fear of judgment.

Scottish Kate is a great friend of this blog and has often offered her (sometimes pithy) opinions on the world of music - and very good taste she has too. She also runs the always excellent (sometimes pithy), and often provocative blog A Burdz Eye View for all things Scottish (of course), political and musical. Here are her aural selections for 2011. The Burd's Best Songs of 2011 Well it doesn't get any easier. Though given that all my old schticks are in here aplenty [...]

![Multiverse Playground [Music Festival]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3731866_lg.jpg)
On a cool September day in Brooklyn, Paper Garden Records decided to throw their last summer party. This backyard music festival was entitled The Multiverse Playground . With 12 hours of live music, DJ sets, comedy acts, art stations, free beer and Vitamin Water, this extravaganza reached its name to the maximum potential. Since music is a shared experience, I am here to give you the same satisfactions from my Saturday at Multiverse Playground. The event line-up went similar to this: Delicate Steve (DJ Set) Marra Barr , [...]

Paper Garden Records: Multiverse Playground Part 3 : We are so excited to be attending this! Team Genius are from New York and formed back in 2007, releasing an EP and LP the following year and (as far as we can tell) this four song EP titled Pop Songs is their first release since then. They make catchy indie pop that fizzes with irreverence and good humour and is, we think, pretty much guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Don't believe us? Check out Ronald Reagan's Cousin below and then take a look in the mirror! You can get the EP at their Bandcamp [...]

Back in February we told you about Team Genius and back then we noted that they would be releasing records like mad men. Well, they didn't lie, they've been busy and have indeed released new music...again. This is, uh, genius if you ask us. Team Genius' simple take on indie pop at times sounds like the Cars, Weezer, and Papas Fritas. And that's not a bad thing. With hooks large enough to reel in a whale shark, and understated simplicity that makes their songs irresistible it's almost [...]

Lovely Hearts Club Presents: Team Genius - Love and Love Songs by Paper Garden Records The last time we wrote about Team Genius , we lauded this local pop supergroup for their ability to pull us out of our mid-winter slump. Turns out this is a band for all seasons, as it's hot as you-know-what outside and Team Genius is nothing short of a breath of fresh air. If this track "Love and Love Songs" off their forthcoming EP is any indication of how great Team [...]

With performances from 30 acts over the course of 2 full days at SXSW 2011, Paper Garden's Lovely Hearts Club was an overwhelming success. Thanks to our sponsors - Moniker Guitars , Thinglink , Vitamin Water , and Uncorked - and thanks to all the bands and everyone else who came out for an incredible 2 days of entertainment! The [...]

The Lovely Hearts Club SXSW 2011 mixtape RSVP [contact-form] The Lovely Hearts Club is celebrating its first ever party this year at SXSW for its 6-month anniversary. Showcasing over 30 new bands (and a comedian!) from across the universe, our aim is to bring you the NEW new and put these more than deserving bands in front of the eyes and ears of industry and fans alike. [...]

Team Genius are really genius. No joke. Their simple take on indie pop at times sounds like the Cars, Weezer, and Papas Fritas. With hooks large enough to reel in a whale shark, and understated simplicity that makes their songs irresistable it's almost impossible to NOT like this band. Team Genius will be releasing their latest album in the summer but before that they'll be releasing three EP's beginning in April. You should consider these rays of sunshiny pop essential purchases. If you don't believe me, I challenge you to listen to "Making Myths," [...]

One cold winter day in NYC, we here at The Lovely Hearts Club decided we needed an anthem to get us through the February blues and excite us for the Spring. There were many stipulations however. It had to be uplifting, familiar, easy to love, perhaps some horns, female harmonies, clever to a point of genius and strong on the team vibe. Where could we possible find a song like that? Then it happened... destiny appeared in the form of an email from Team Genius , delivering unto us this track, 'Making [...]
![[Rock Snobbery |:| A List]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1805288_lg.jpg)
[Rock Snobbery |:| A List] Referencing it because I can, Urban Dictionary defines a rock snob as "an especially irritating breed of tool." Yes - in life's tool box, rock snobs are right there next to the guy who thinks he's the Fonz. Even if they have a characteristically, well, snobby attitude, rock snobs are a proud subset the music community can't exist without. Rock Snobbery is a badge one should be eager to both wear and hide - like the STD badge for Girl Scouts. While being ahead of the curve and the [...]

I'd been wanting to film Team Genius ever since I heard their Hooray EP last year, and thanks to the band's willingness to brave the cold, and drummer Scott Dyer's intention to take his drum kit outdoors, the Winter season of Secret Garden's going just swell. These guys seem to have a knack for writing songs that you sing along, clap and stomp to, so it's only appropriate that they've managed to gather themselves into a unit of eight, even though of one them, Emma Firth, was missing when I went to see them [...]

This is really supposed to be a weekly feature, but I haven't done one of these posts in a long, long time - largely because I'm lazy. And overwhelmed by the sheer volume of music coming through my inbox. But I asked for it, and it's only fair that I share some of the discoveries I've made. So, here's some of the best new music that has come my way in the last few weeks. And weeks. Most of the stuff that comes through my inbox, I listen to once and toss away. But every now [...]

Onto the top 50! These lists take long to do. To finish my list today or tomorrow hmmm. Again 10 word description limit. Previously: Part 1 #76-100 Part 2 #51-75 #26 Teen Creeps by No Age ( myspace / live ) I'm feeling regretful of not including Nouns in my list . #27 Eraser by No Age ( video / live ) Can be #26 (tied), both are equally good. #28 Feel The Love by Cut Copy ( myspace [...]

I'm really late with my top songs list. There are far too many and it's likely I missed a whole bit. In order not to just give a list of 100 songs, I'll split it into four-parts with a 10-word limit describing each track. #76 (Why Don't You Go) Take A Hike by Thunder Power ( myspace / video ) Even if she tells me, I'm not leaving. #77 Wishing Well by Love Is All ( myspace / video ) Josephine Olausson is a goddess. I'll make her feel better ;). #78 [...]
