Donnie Darko had some of best 802s music. In fact, if it hadn't been for this film I would have continued to believe all my naive friends who claimed "there was no such thing as good music in the 80s." Here are a few songs from one of my favorite movie soundtracks. One of the most anticipated festivals each year in Sydney is We Love Sounds, every year it has one of the strongest and most versatile line ups. This year held on June 6th, they have everyone from Armin Van Buuren to Armand Van Helden, Laidback Luke to James Zabiela, and Dave Nada To Bobmo, the list does go on and I could name many more strong acts but thats not the point I am making. One of the highlights of this festival will definitely be Kissy Sell Out, I have been lucky enough to see him on two occasions, which [...]
We spoke to the awesome Suckers about writing anthems over at our NME blog. Here Quinn Walker from the band tells us about eating avacado pits, the Chordettes and what rhymes with purple.

Electro's number one cheeky chappy is back with some fresh material. First up hes served a remix of one of my favourite 80's tunes by Tears For Fears . Although its nothing groundbreaking as hes kept the original almost 100% intact, the added signature Kissy beat turns a once classic into a dancefloor filler. Next up however, his track 'The Kiss' gets the Jack Beats treatment and trust me, its one hell of treatment. Just wait for the drop, it'll make your ears bleed. In a good way of course. Tears [...]
I've been sitting on this blogpost for a few months now, but figured that this gloomy weather needed a pick-me-up. My Portuguese pals the Buffet Libre DJs released a second volume of its retro cover c... Mad World - Gary Jules.mp3 (right click to save as) Richard Kelly's film Donnie Darko has one of the most well designed soundtracks of any movie. There are tons of awesome 80's songs throughout the film but the most moving sequence is set to "Mad World." Originally by Tears for Fears, Gary Jules took this 80's track and turned it into something timeless. All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere Their tears are [...]
Dear friends,This song is a cheesefest. I'm not going to tell you otherwise. I used to be obsessed with the video which features a dork with books, the lank-haired librarian he's crushing on, a chimp doing research, a man playing the synth with one finger whilst rocking massive shoulder pads and a Hasid suddenly busting out on the drums. There's just too much to admire. I mean, really.Heard

Jonathan Johansson - Alla Vill Ha Hela Världen [Tears for Fears, Everybody Wants to Rule The World]

if you didn't know, today is indie bass player recognition day, a day that, as a sometime indie bass player myself, i cherish like a junkie cherishes his works. there aren't many famous bass players, especially not famous indie bass players. while guitarists are gods, then bass players are either scorned (hello bill wyman, mark king), or overlooked altogether (erm most everyone else). of course there are exceptions, but they're generally recognised for their technical ability rather than contribution to songwriting (hello jaco pastorius, billy sheehan). and indie isn't a genre that generally acknowledges musicianship. [...]
Head Over Heels: Literal Video Version - watch more funny videos This may be old news, but I'm slow! These Literal Video Versions of classic tunes are absolutely killing me tonight. Maybe it's because I love the cheesetastic videos they're making fun of, or perhaps it's the oft-ignored fact that sometimes the cheapest joke really is the funniest joke. Either way, I've been laughing out loud for the last 30 minutes. Tears for Fears are such a favorite of mine, what with their quintessential 80s Casio keyboard sounds and over [...]
I'm glad that my little hate-filled essay on racial tolerance in America (that sounds so much more professional than "bitchy rant about racist dicks") generated so many responses. Whenever I hit a nerve with one of my rants I always feel like I'm on the spot to follow it up with something equally vitriolic and well-written. Well, um...I got nothing. Sorry, kind of content right now. About the only thing that's pissing me off at the moment is the unreliable control system in Skate 2 for the Xbox 360, but I really don't feel like ranting about poor game design [...]

Tears for Fears : Sowing the Seeds of Love [ purchase ] In the 1980s, there was a mini-revival of the psychedelic music of the 60s. XTC briefly became the Dukes Of the Stratosphere. Robyn Hitchcock's work with Egyptians would fit in this category. And Tears for Fears released their album The Seeds of Love. No doubt, there were other examples as well. Tears for Fears embraced not only the unusual sounds of psychedelia, but also the optimism of its lyrics. And nowhere is this clearer than in [...]
It feels great to be back in the swing of things! Although I was traveling over the Holidays (from Oakland to Wisconsin to Reno to Las Vegas and back) I did have a couple moments to catch up on the tunez that have been flooding my inbox and toss a couple on the iPhone as well! This is not one of them... This is Ministry's With Sympathy album from 1983 and it kicks a lot of butt! The tracks I've selected for [...]

Great movie (Donnie Darko). Great song. Great Bunny outfit. GREAT EVERYTHING! Jake's sister...hmmm, not so great though. Tears for Fears - Head Over Heels DEF DIG!

And here it is... the final Murmurmur cover as performed by Athens posthardcorers We Versus The Shark . And it is a Tears For Fears cover, not an REM cover. Oh well. I was really hoping for a cover of "Catapult" (youtube). No big woop. I will deal. I still think We Versus The Shark rock, and they are awesome for hooking up with donation based Quote Unquote Records on this project. Put a few bucks in their jar... here . Downloadable: [...]
