It is with regret that we announce the demise of promising upcoming pop duo Technoir MA, who kept us more than entertained in February with the stunning '2/B' EP . It was 80s inspired guitar music accompanied by drum machines and the direct, confident vocals of singer/guitarist Justin Vassalo. Their crazed post-punk was noisy and abrupt, with that New Order style combination of melancholy overdrive and euphoric dance beats never straying far from the band's ideals. ' Roundabout ' ( MP3 ) in particular, was a rare gem of a song. But there is good news - [...]
I spent the first half of this week locked-up at The Ranch Recording Studios in Southampton recording my band's first EP (more news on that coming soon), but despite this minor pre-occupation taking up twenty four hours of my last three days - what filtered through the blogs and news services in terms of new music certainly didn't pass me by. Monday saw the fantastic announcement from Reading Festival organisers that Surfer Blood , Girls and Wild Beasts were to be added to the already improved 2010 line-up; one which has already seen [...]

Named indirectly by James Cameron, Technoir MA apparently takes the first part of its name from a nightclub in the Terminator movie, a name the director had chosen to represent the new style of movie he felt he had made. We don't have too much information on this two-piece out of Somerville, Massachusetts, although we do know they released a free creative commons EP, from which this track came, and a brand new EP called 2/B was just put out via Banter Media & Management. Both links are below: Technoir MA @ [...]

A new American indie pop label that gives away free music every Friday? Yes. We scour the world for the greatest new songs so you don't have to. No stone is left unturned. You are a child, and we are your parents. This is the promise of Holiday Records , one of our favorite DIY labels. We've gotten several cool EP's and whatnots so far in 2010 and it has been a shame we haven't given them the attention they so rightfully deserve. Perhaps we shall remedy that by making this [...]

Technoir MA have only been together since last summer, but already sound like the noise-pop band that I wish Bloc Party had turned into after Silent Alarm. Sceptical of presumably far-too-early Bloc Party comparisons? Grab "Roundabout" below and try telling me that those guitars aren't ridiculously reminiscent of A Weekend In The City's best B-sides. Having just self released debut EP "2/B", they are about to set out on their first US tour, which is the only place that you can get your hands on their toe-gazing post punk. Until they (hopefully) blow up and are able to [...]
Technoir MA - 2/B (Feb 2, 2010) Post-Punk/Alternative Dance/Live Electronics Yesterday saw not only the official release date of Technoir MA's debut EP '2/B', but also its perfectly timed arrival in my letterbox, and by that time, unbeknownst to its creators, it had become a certainty for me to review. Justin Vassalo and [...]

The Great Inbox Clearance is my way of getting through the overwhelming number of emails we received after taking a week off. Check out this post for the details behind the project. That post will also explain why lemurs are involved. There's a fella from a management group called Banter who sends me multiple emails every week promoting several of the bands that Banter represents. The quality of the music he sends me is almost-always very good. However, the number of emails received - combined with my [...]

Technoir MA - Return You remember Technoir MA , right? The two dudes from Boston making some of the best '80s inspired punk gaze kraut pop? Well, they followed up their debut self titled EP with another one called 2/B and it's awesome . 2/B has everything Technoir MA had except 10 times better. The guitars are catchier, the drums are poundier, and the echoes are [...]
bands to watch #1 - #3 4. Technoir MA (UNSIGNED) (Noise Pop/Alternative/Live Electronics) Technoir MA are a drum machine/electronics duo from Somerville, Massachusetts made up of Justin Vassalo and Colin Greene. They formed in Summer 2009 and put out their first self-titled EP in Autumn ( download here for free via Gimmesound) and their follow up, the four-track 2/B EP [...]
The '80s may be well behind us, but the better parts of their musical influence are proving to be enduring. That's why we hear a moody techno pop influence on the music of Massachusetts indie rockers Technoir MA. The band play high octane pop that seems to be inspired equally by New Order and The Buzzcocks. Judge for yourself by grabbing your MP3 of the track "Sparks" here. Technoir MA's

Massachusetts duo Technoir MA inject some movement and color into your day with the "Roundabout," and its New Order vibe. They self-released an EP back in May and just recorded a follow-up four song EP. sound: Roundabout http://www.myspace.com/technoi rma

Monday, August 3 Daniel Striped Tiger , Get Laid , Planned Communities , Alocoholocaust , Fruit Salad at Charlie's Kitchen ($6, 8:00, 21+) This show seems to be a bit of a clusterfuck right now. Not totally sure who's playing and who's not. It's most likely everyone is playing but don't be too surprised if you show up and Fruit Salad's not there. But this should still be a great show if only for ladykillers DST. Those dudes fucking rock . Totally worth going [...]

Technoir MA - Roundabout Technoir MA , occasionally known without the MA, are a couple of dudes from Somerville that know how to put smiles on faces. They do the catchy indie electro popgaze really really well. Their new EP is 20 minutes worth of truly wonderful tunes that are 100% danceable while avoiding the "dance" label, similar to A Faulty Chromosome or Radio Dept. They got the dreamy guitars, echoey electronic drum [...]
