Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Ben Hider, Getty Images Had Matt and Kim not headlined the Village Voice's 10th annual Siren Music Festival , held Saturday at Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY, they probably couldn't have played at all. The twosome took the stage at around 7:45PM, by which time the sun had mercifully begun to set and the temperatures to dip into the mid 80s. The weather was as right for a dance party as [...]
The tenth annual Siren Music Festival was on Saturday, with over a dozen bands playing brief sets on two stages at Coney Island. I only managed to catch a few acts before I went to see We Are Scientists at Sound Fix in Williamsburg. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart gamely playing on the [...]

For anyone still skeptical, he’s got 24 more evenings to convince you this fall. Leo takes the Pharmacists across the country starting in September, hitting the West and South hard over two months with some fest gigs thrown in as well, including appearance at Coney Island's free Siren Music Festival this Saturday. I'm not sure whether it's more a 2003 dance-punk blowout, a tribute to influential 1990s artists or a nod to hipster flavors of the minute, but the lineup for this year's FYF Fest was announced today. The one-day affair, Saturday, Sept. 4, at Los Angeles State Historic Park downtown, features dance-music faves the Rapture and !!! , ’90s stoner-rock kings Sleep , punk veterans Unbroken and 7Seconds , and a host of emerging locals who are making their mark — Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti , Warpaint , [...]
It was at least a decent-sized blow when the HARD LA fest was called off the other day . And while LA still can't get their rave on, the citizens of the City of Angels can take solace in the fact that they've now got a pretty killer lineup for this September's FYF Fest (via the LA Weekly blog ). The festival, which goes down September 3rd in the Los Angles Historic State Park, will feature the likes of The Rapture and Panda Bear as headliners along with [...]

Well, I've finally made it home to the greatest city on earth to wait out the rest of my summer days until I can legally drink again. I would probably be more upset had there not been an awesome lineup of shows waiting for me when I got home. To kick things off, the tenth anniversary Siren Music Festival is going down this Saturday on Coney Island. Aside from the awesome lineup (which includes the likes of Matt and Kim , Ted Leo , Surfer Blood , Cymbals Eat Guitars , Holy Fuck [...]

Sadly I will not be in attendance to this year's 10th annual Siren Music Festival as I will still be living out of a tent up at Camp Bisco. This week, we'll all be posting our "Top 5 Albums of 2010 (so far)," one writer each day. In the past, I never could get myself to actually rank my top albums, just because I find it rather difficult. Plus, I feel as though it shouldn't really come down to a "who's better than who?" or anything. These lists are just a culmination of opinion, so let's not get all carried away. Based on their content, I felt like I should arrange my choices in the following order. [...]

Apparently rumors that Ted Leo will be retiring have been going around. The rumors stem from a post made by The Daily Swarm titled "Ted Leo Says Music Can't Be His Job Anymore", which quotes an interview Leo recently did with BuzzGrinder.com. It's a losing proposition for us at this point. It's something we can't keep doing. It's a simple, unfortunate fact. In our particular case, it is totally tied to a downturn in record sales. - Ted Leo Well, today Ted issued a statement clarifying what exactly his statement [...]
Recently, Ted Leo sat down for an interview with Joseph Lord of Louisville’s Velocity , where he conveyed the idea that 2010 may be his last as a full-fledged independent musician. "People don’t think record sales matter to musicians. If you’re selling less than 10,000 records, it probably doesn’t matter. And if you’re selling more than 100,000 records, it probably doesn’t matter. But if you’re selling somewhere in the middle, it can make a huge difference," explained Leo. He then added, "I’m going to be totally honest with you. By next year, there’s no way I’m going [...]

In an interview with the Louisville newspaper Velocity (that has yet to hit the internet), Ted Leo of Pharmacists fame explains that sagging record sales have hit the band so hard that he probably won't be able to continue his career as a full-time musician. Leo and his band released their sixth studio album, The Brutalist Bricks earlier this year, and despite critical acclaim, it only managed to stay on the Billboard Top 200 for one week. Leo explained that for acts his size, record sales can be especially crucial: "People [...]
