"I can tell by the bellows of my neighbors that sports are over & the New Jersey Acromegolics beat my 6-State Patriots." - John Hodgman Ted Leo leaving Beerland - 1/28/2012 ( by Tim Trentham ) After a recent trip to Texas in honor of Esme Barrera (picture from the Beerland benfits above), and more recently a weekend of "curling (the "sport"), Nightbirds & Kim Phuc at the Acheron, seal [...]

Photos by G. Ted Leo On January 19, 2012, Punk legend Ted Leo made a guest appearance at The Rejection Show at Littlefield in Brooklyn. The concept of The Rejection Show is pure genius - comedians and singers finally get a chance to play material in front of a live audience that has been cut from their act. Occasionally, the cut material deals with rejection too, which just adds to the hilarity of the program. This was my first experience at The Rejection Show and I definitely [...]

Filed under: News , R.I.P. Getty Images Although the label that launched Green Day has yet to make it official, it appears that Lookout! Records is no more. According to a blog post by Ted Leo on Jan 13, and reported by Punknews.org, the label -- which officially stopped releasing new material in 2006 -- has "sadly, shuttered it's windows for good." In a post titled "Lookout! Ist Kapuut," [...]
Lookout! Records, the storied Bay Area punk label, has barely existed in the past six years; the label stopped releasing new music in 2006, only staying around to keep its old material in print. But now Lookout! isn't even doing that anymore; the label has entirely ceased to exist. On his website , the former Lookout! artist Ted Leo explains that all his old Lookout!-released records, including The Tyranny Of Distance and Hearts Of Oak , now belong entirely to him and that he'll try to get them back up online as soon as possible. [...]

Farewell to the former home of Green Day, Rancid, and Ted Leo.
Lookout! Records , the Berkeley, California-based record label and one-time home of Green Day, Operation Ivy, Rancid, The Donnas, Alkaline Trio, and countless others, is no more, according to the label's former signee Ted Leo. In a message posted on his website , Leo revealed that while the label had ceased putting out new material in 2006, it was still printing back catalogs until December. Now, however, the label has "sadly, shuttered its windows for good," explained Leo. Leo, who released four Ted Leo and the Pharmacists records through Lookout! during the early 2000s, went on to [...]
Ted Leo posted the following today: LOOKOUT! IST KAPUTT. I've been getting a lot of Twitter questions about why a bunch of my records have disappeared from all the digital services (Sportify, iDudes, Mandora, etc.). It's because our beloved Lookout Records , which ceased releasing new material in 2006, but carried on keeping the catalog in print until this past December, has, sadly, shuttered it's windows for good. A better eulogy should be forthcoming, but just to answer these questions, this means that these records [...]

by Klaus Kinski "I bought hummus at Costco. Now I have an intimidating amount of hummus. Every time I open the fridge, it eyeballs me. - Kurt Braunohler The great Ted Leo closed out 2011 with a bang with sold-out full-band shows at the Bell House on December 30th and then on [...]

The tributes for Esme Barrera continue to blanket the cold that remains after the loss of one of El Paso's and Austin's genuine souls. Most recently, Ted Leo announced he'd join The Crack Pipes, the Golden Boys and Grape St. for a solo show at Beerland on January 28 th . The benefit show will help defray some costs for the Barrera family. Esme was well known for her love of mixtapes. The following is one [...]

Sharon Van Etten @ BV-SXSW 2011 ( more by Amanda Hatfield ) Sharon Van Etten , who recently opened for and played with The National , contributed backing vocals to a song The National wrote for the movie "Win Win" . That song, "Think You Can Wait", is on the shortlist of 39 songs eligible to be nominated for an Oscar. That list, reprinted in full below, also includes songs by Jonsi and She & Him. In other [...]

Matador label-mates James McNew of Yo La Tengo and Ted Leo both have December 2011 Maxwell's shows coming up and both contributed 'Best of 2011' lists to Matador Records for the label's annual big list of lists. Maybe their lists contain some clues on what special guests we can expect at their upcoming NJ shows ( Yo La Tengo on all nights of Hanukkah , Ted Leo on New Year's Eve ). At a minimum, Ted's list contains a great recommendation for vegan pizza in Brooklyn . Both lists are reprinted below... [...]

[Buffalo Tom and guests at the Brighton Music Hall, Allston, MA 11/26/2011. Photos by Michael Piantigini.] Buffalo Tom's 25th Anniversary celebration rolled on last night with night two of their three game series ( night one report here ). There was no dip in intensity (25 years? No biggie!) and the band dug out a few more nuggets for us diehards. Can't remember the last time I heard them play "Mountains of Your Head" or "Would Not Be Denied" and they were well worth the wait. In fact, there was relatively few repeats, [...]
[Buffalo Tom and guests at the Brighton Music Hall, Allston, MA 11/25/2011. Photos by Michael Piantigini.] Tremendous. I can't claim to have been there quite at the beginning, but I'm in for about 20 of Buffalo Tom's 25 years. At that time, there was no streaming advance blog single and to get ahead of the curve on "alternative" rock, it really helped if you worked on a college radio station. My first Buffalo Tom memory is eagerly huddling in WXPL's production studio with several cohorts to listen to the [...]
