Them guys are hott....them guys are hott. Seems like just yesterday when we were just youngsters laughing it out with our respective 'buds' to the musings of one Clell Tickle , those wacky indie music pranksters or even...ah... Shutterbugs when it was just a blossoming viral video. Well, not anymore son, not anymore. Now if you go to YouTube , Viacom has scorched the earth of much of all that remains. This past weekend saw a 24 hour marathon in which Human Giant took over the MTV [...]

Ted Leo's latest, Living With The Living , came out last Tuesday. I have yet to form an opinion on the album, but I do thoroughly enjoy his back catalog. His punk rock is musical punk rock. It's music that is also strongly influenced by Leo's politics, which I personally like. For Chicago fans, it's likely that you've already seen him live, since he played both the Pitchfork Music Fest and the Touch And Go Music Fest last summer. But, now's your chance to catch him in a real live [...]
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists "The Unwanted Things" - Some people might roll their eyes at the token reggae song on Ted Leo's new album, but as far as I'm concerned, "The Unwanted Things" showcases everything that I love about his music -- effortless warmth and humanity, an easygoing sense of melody, and his thin yet extraordinarily endearing falsetto. "The Unwanted Things" overflows with gentle empathy, and though it strays from his typical style, it still seems like a defining work for the Nicest Guy in Indie Rock. ( Click here to buy [...]

For whatever reason, when I first heard the name 'Ted Leo and the Pharmacists', I was convinced they were folk-rockers. It was a few months before I actually got around to listening to their music, and realized that they're actually awesome lo-fi punk. Yesterday, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists released a new LP, Living With The Living, which you've probably heard by now. But, you probably haven't heard the Mo' Living. The lucky souls that pre-ordered Living With The Living are the only ones who have heard this collection of b-sides. But, since I'm [...]
"We've had our differences, Tom, but you have my utmost respect." -- Scratchy Record, giving it up to his old buddy "I think I need to bring you like a schmata or something to wipe up with there." -- Laura Cantrell, looking for an old cloth to remove the sweat from Tom's brow "You get to blend things at Thomas Sweet's!" -- Tom on the Hub City's frozen mash-ups "It's like midnight basketball for the 21st Century. It keeps kids off the street." -- [...]

"A police car and a screaming siren, A pneumatic drill and ripped up concrete, A baby wailing and stray dog howling, at any given moment could be what you hear on 'FMU, and that's Entertainment... that's Entertainment..." - Ted Leo's performed a WFMU-ified version of The Jam's "That's Entertainment" on The Best Show on WFMU this past Tuesday, March 13th, 2007 - Listen to the mp3 here . (6.7 MB) It was performed during The Best Show on WFMU 's second Marathon show for 2007, hosted by Tom Scharpling, [...]
If there's one thing Ted Leo and I both love, it's a good cover. The only thing is, I enjoy listening to them and he seems to enjoy doing them. Works for me. Here's one that he did for The Interface over at Spinner. He was at WOXY last week, ...
Ted Leo (sans Pharmacists) took a break from [whatever it is he's doing before he begins] touring in supporting his upcoming album * No Seriously, Punk's Not Dead Yet to give an exclusive in-studio performance for The Interface on AOL's music blog Spinner . Ted rocked out solo on six songs, including two from the upcoming album, fan-favorite "Timorous Me" from The Tyranny Of Distance , "Bleeding Powers" from his quasi-solo effort Tell Balgeary, Balgury Is Dead , and two covers: Waco Brothers ' "Pigsville" and the following [...]
Cansei De Ser Sexy win. Their hybrid-cover of Sleater-Kinney's "I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone" and "Jenny From the Block" is full-on awesome. (As if the L7 cover wasn't enough.) It's just as clever as Ted Leo's cover of "Since U Been Gone" from a little while back, but with better production. CCS (which is Portuguese for "Tired of Being Sexy") had found a stateside home at Sub Pop Records sometime last year, and I'd be the first to admit, that I just didn't get it. But now I do. I will never doubt the Pacific Northwest gods [...]

Hey Guys, I tried but couldn't finish the big blog post for this morning. So I am just dropping some tracks to hold you over. Check back after I get out of work and here back from a friend! slow but worth it. (now with flare) The Pixies - Debaser Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back Since U Been [...]

Photo by Kathryn Yu . The first legal mp3 available from Ted Leo 's upcoming record is "The Sons Of Cain". And it is a great song, one of those that sound like it was written during band rehearsal, you know one of those songs that just jumps out at you right off the bat, or the downbeat. And it was, written that is, one August morning as the band toured the last album, Shake The Sheets . August [...]

Hello readers. This is Volume Twelve of the celebrated blog radio series. This post is a little different than the other entries I share with you on a daily basis. These songs are ones I am listening to from the depths of my music collection. Some are newer tracks and others are recurrent classics. Completing the Blog Radio posts each week to 10 days has always proven an interesting exercise in both creativity and in connection. I tell you what I am listening to and hopefully that brings us (you and I) just a bit closer. Sometimes the [...]

Ted Leo "Under The Hedge" (Demo) I'm kind of a Ted Leo/Pharmacists superfan, and I realized that a couple months into hacking away at this newfangled "blag" thing all the kids are talking about, I haven't featured any music by dude. He pulls off his Thin Lizzy/Jam/Elvis C./dubby vein of punk-inspired smart rock-not exactly a trendy endeavor at any point in the last decade or so-without being, to these ears, wholly derivative. His songs are catchy, and the POV of his lyrics show a guys whose head and heart are in [...]

I have been burning the candle a little long each day - and not leaving much behind. And, a little overtired - possibly explaining the sweet title (heheh) of this particular blog entry, but it's creative so ultimately... whatever. Today's blog entry is focused squarely on emotive tracks that draw a little more, make you think about feeling and free that caged thing inside of yourself. There, that's better. [...]

Kelly Clarkson - Shelter She sang this Ray LaMontagne cover live on the React Now concert back in 2005. Since I haven't heard the original, I cannot compare the two. But Kelly seems to do a pretty good job with the song. The only problem is that: she sounded like she sang it for an American Idol episode, not like she really meant it. Ted Leo - Since U Been Gone/Maps Awesome tongue-in-cheek acoustic live cover from indie hispter Ted Leo. So yeah, he sang it ironically but it stills sound great. [...]

The goal is that I can one day rule the Earth through healthy provisions of quality music. Everybody's got a dream. Ted Leo came to town earlier this month and pulled a nice little bait and switch on an unsuspecting all-ages crowd at the Middle East Upstairs in Cambridge. It'd been years since he'd played a space that small in this area, and I'd fortunately seen him put on some great shows in that very room before he graduated to the much larger downstairs stage. It was no surprise to some that the Sunday matinee show sold out weeks in advance, but I naively figured I had some extra time with students yet to flood back [...]
Here I was thinking I'd be falling back on them every week. It's been a slow week here at Another Form of Relief, mostly because I've spent much of it working in London, which combined with the commute, severely limits my time and energy levels. Everything is back to normal now though a regular blogging schedule should once again resume. MP3 Ted Leo - Since U Been Gone (Kelly Clarkson) There seems to be a lot of appreciation for the regular kind of pop music lately, and Kelly [...]

"Mad World" (Tears for Fears cover) - Tori Amos (live) "Pink Moon" (Nick Drake cover) - Sebadoh ( buy ) "Crazy" (Gnarls Barkley cover) - The Twilight Singers (live) "Dancing in the Dark" (Bruce Springsteen cover) - Ted Leo (live)

today's post will be short on words and medium length on music. it will be huge on me telling you that i am going on vacation tomorrow. but don't fret, loyal ydb readers, i have some wonderful guest bloggers filling in for me. now, i have to go take all of my shampoo, shaving gel, water bottles and tylenol gel caps out of my carry on, so i'm just going to leave with something near and dear to my heart: a selection of covers, just for you! self - what [...]
