Damn. This is going to mess up my whole day. Teddy Pendergrass, RIP. And two of my favorites from the Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes years: A legend, lost.

Soul singer Teddy Pendergrass has passed away at the age of 59 on January 13th. Reps say he passed away due to a rare illness related to his spinal injury. In 1982 Pendergrass was involved in a car crash that left him paralyzed from the waist down. Pendergrass also went in for treatment for colon cancer 8 months ago and was said to have had a "difficult recovery".

AP reports that R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass died today at Bryn Mawr Hospital just outside of Philadelphia, PA. He was 59 years old. Pendergrass first came into the national spotlight as the lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, a Philadelphia-based soul group which topped the charts with 1972's "If You Don't Know Me By Now," "Wake Up Everybody, " and many more classic songs. He later went solo, landing numerous singles on the pop and R&B charts throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, such as "Close the Door" [...]
I got the news this evening that one of my musical heroes has passed away at the age of 59. I wish peace to his family and friends. As my tribute, I am posting up the first beat I ever made, which samples Teddy's classic, "Close The Door." While this beat is no technical masterpiece, it was the first step on the road to where I am today and where I continue to go musically. Over the last 8 years, I have gone back to Teddy P. many times, and drawn much inspiration from his work. I only hope that [...]

I was planning on putting up about a half dozen rips to honor the man, the legend, Teddy Pendergrass, who passed away tonight at Bryn Mawr Hospital not five miles from where I sit, but instead I'll just put up two favorites and leave it to you to go and cop Love TKO, Close the Door and others to help pay for the flowers at the man's funeral. It wasn't long ago that I was standing outside a bar on Baltimore Avenue with a man in his seventies who was telling me about his short-lived doo-wop career in [...]

W 2010 witam i ja. Zapraszamy z Grohem wtedy. Tymczasem, żeby wprowadzić wszystkich w klimat czarnej muzyki lat 70, jaki miał dominować na imprze w Pałacu Brzozowskich, pozwolę sobie przypomnieć trzech moich ulubionych soulowych wokalistów tamtych czasów - Marvina Gaye'a, Teddy'ego Pendergrassa i Isaaca Hayes'a. Wszyscy trzej w wersjach "live". Wszyscy trzej [...]

Motherfuckin Teddy Pendergrass. Loverman with a bit of a creepy "screaming angrily at bitches to rub him with burning hot oils" persona going on. This is a PHENOMENAL JAM from his first post-Harold Melvin solo joint. The self titled one pictured above with the SCARF like whoa. Funky edit from Leftside Wobble , Originally released as a limited Disco 123 on Philadelphia International in 1978; this is a another tease and stretch number which extends the groove into a 7 minutes disco jam. Haven't messed with it too much, just beefed up the rhythm track and extended the groove. Hope you enjoy... . I'm not sure whether it is due to popular demand after last week's compilation, but here is a second '8s soul mix, with a third and final installment in the works. The first mix was an attempt to create a fairly representative cross-section of the genre. This mix is less self-conscious about that. What we have here, then, are some of my favourite soul tracks from that comparatively barren
My Irish heritage is a tattoo on my soul. She drapes my dreams as she flies over my bed. She drowns my clear thoughts on too much of a consistent basis. Thus, my ode to St. Patrick (not St. Paddy) can be nothing more than drinking a fine Irish brew and listening to the jovial jigs of Irish songwriters. Take these songs and feel the love. Perhaps wear some green and act like you're Irish, too. I don't mind. MP3: Dropkick Murphys - Boys on the Docks MP3: Clancy Brothers - Whiskey in the [...]
