Rock n' roll has lived an eventful life thus far. In the early years it was an adolescent, playing by the rules and mimicking blues and swing music. By the mid to late 1950s, though, it hit a rebellious stage and hardly looked back. It seems that every era of rock since has offered something musically and culturally defiant that has made parents cringe and kids go crazy. But times have changed. Rock has, for better or worse, reached middle age, and it's no longer interested exclusively in shock and awe. [...]
As the end of the year approaches, it's time for us to look back at the past twelve months and decide what have been our favourite albums of the year. This time it hasn't been an easy task because let's face it, 2011 has definitely not been a great year for music, and personally, I [...]

Hookworms are a collective from Leeds and they're fulfilling all of our psychedelic needs today with their brilliant track 'Teen Dreams.' The single is a part of their self titled Ep which is available now . Hookworms - Teen Dreams

Tweet Electronic French duo Air are to release their new album "Le Voyage Dans La Lune" which includes collaborations with Beach House and Au Revoir Simone . The album, which will be the follow-up to their 2009 LP "Love 23 will be out on February 12th, and borrows its name from the famous short film from 1902 that the band were working on recently [...]

The Treasure Island Music Festival has been five years running. But every year they continue to surprise us with their ever amazing lineup. Starting on Saturday, Oct. 15, this autumn weekend festival will be full of B-Sides' favorites. Death Cab For Cutie, Cut Copy, Beach House, Warpaint, The Naked and Famous, Friendly Fires and much more make a perfect combination of seasoned and emerging indie artists from several different popular genres. Who doesn't love Death Cab for Cutie ? Well just in case you haven't listened to their new album yet, they're still going strong [...]
I posted a track from Gross Magic yesterday and in researching them I was lucky enough to stumble across the Tumblr page for the amazing UK record label The Sounds of Sweet Nothing and have been dumbfoundedly blinking my eyes over their suggested listens all morning. Take Hookworms, a little outfit from a place called [...]

13-15 May, 2011 We live in hard times, friends. Not hard like it was back in the 20s, 30s, 40s and 50s obviously, or even the early 80s of course but you know, bread is pricey these days, so pretty damn hard. The enforced economic cutbacks are far reaching and have inevitably spread to everyone's favourite indie-cred festival, ATP . Now down to just one May festival from the previous years' 2, one will become none in 2012 due to a big dip in ticket sales caused by all manner of possible reasons; a perceived lack of [...]
Here's why I decided to reclaim my glorious WordPress: I was just starting to get good at it when I stopped blogging. Another thing: Upon perusing my iPod, which has a different music selection from my external hard drive, I came across the song "Sharks" by Bear Colony, and it hit my belly in an entirely nostalgic way. I remembered the way that this blog tracked my growth from adolescence to adulthood. Although I am still rather immature, you readers have watched me grow up, have grown up with me, given me support, and I want to give something [...]
![[Introducing] – Soft](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3406650_lg.jpg)
Tweet If I had to limit myself to one observation about Soft then a) this would be a pretty short post, and b) I would say they sound British. While I'm willing to admit that I may be biased on this front, I just have to say kudos to them for that. There's no point pussy-footing around the fact that British music is, was, and in all likelihood will continue to be demonstrably better than US music, according to me. Not only this, they [...]
Performed at Webster Hall, Stereogum points out that it sounds like something that could have been on Teen Dream , I definitely agree with that. That record was pretty awesome though. If you're into that stuff, I'd go so far as to say it was nearly flawless. Just a really, really solid record. Victoria and Alex work so well together, much like Summer Camp's ability to ball NBA Jam Style .
First and foremost, Beach House is one of my absolute favorite bands. Their music is so much more than the word "Beautiful" can encompass- it's genuine, emotional, intelligent, haunting, and revolutionary. Live, I fell in love all over again. I saw Beach House twice at last year's Primavera Club in a tiny club where no [...]
I blame it on the general malaise that assails all creative types when the world is cold, gray, and mostly dusk and darker. I blame it on the slowing of blood in vessels constricted due to perpetually cold weather more conducive to sitting still, hibernating, than to exploring and creating. I even blame it on the rain that was falling. For whatever reason I completely missed out on this album in 2010 and it is a shame. In fact I missed out on a few great albums last year that would have easily crept into my best of [...]
For the second consecutive year at Hidden Track, we concocted our innovative little experiment for the year-end Best Albums list. Instead of picking the old fashioned way – subjectively – we opted for something a little different: a collaborative, collective list that incorporates the opinions of everybody here at HT. To begin, we devised an all-encompassing list of well over 100 nominees, whereby most everything our contributors recommended made the list. [...]

As 2k11 begins, the DJs of WQHS bring you their top albums of the past year Check out our entire list after the jump: [photo via hipsterpuppies.tumblr.com ] 10. Vampire Weekend- Contra Vampire Weekend is known for creating contradictions. Its very identity is a paradox; the group formed on the Upper West Side with a sound inspired by African popular music. (This tension is perfectly encapsulated in the title of "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa," a song [...]
I'd say it's been a pretty good year in my musical world... and a pretty good year other wise too! I'm about as blessed as a girl can be and the end of the year always makes me incredibly aware of it! But enough of the mushy stuff... let's get down to the nitty gritty! [...]

Beach House - Teen Dream Although barely visible on the shelf of a record shop, ' Teen Dream' was seen from afar as a record that had the potential of providing breakthrough for one of America's more unsung acts. And thankfully, it acted in a similar way to Grizzly Bear's 'Veckatimest', excelling Victoria Legrand and Alex Scully's reputation and bathing them in critical acclaim and awards. This is unarguably one of the "bigger", more obvious choices in our list, and yet all previous Beach House albums have gone somewhat under the radar. [...]
