The roster of 4AD is dotted with artists who've carved out some kind of legacy, so imagine our surprise in June when the label announced the addition of Inc. — the project of twins Daniel and Andrew Aged that until recently was doing business as Teen Inc. The Ageds have collaborated with Nite Jewel and Francis & the Lights [get "Eiffel Tower" and "The Things That I Would Do" here ], and their resumé boasts studio and touring work with the likes of 50 Cent, Elton John, Pharrell Williams, Beck, Raphael [...]

Way, way back in 2010, there was this Prince -inspired band I blogged about named Teen Inc. Then, they only had a mere 7" to their name, though that 7" was admittedly rad. Well, more than a year later, the L.A. duo have renamed themselves " Inc. " and let out the first track off their forthcoming EP, 3 . The good news: "Swear" is as strong, if not stronger than their previous single, keeping all the keytars, wonky bass and Paula Abdul drum beats in place, while refining their Purple [...]
Inc. - the L.A. duo formerly known as Teen Inc. - have a new EP 3 out via 4AD on 7/26. Take a listen to the sly funk of "Swear" below. Read More...
I did a post on their funky collab with Francis and the Lights earlier this week, but I'm back with more news on Inc. (formerly Teen Inc.) already. 4AD will release their debut EP 3 on July 25 and here's a first song of that EP: the catchy get-your-groove-on Swear . Prince vibes. ( via ) mp3 Inc. - Swear

Inc. (formerly known as Teen Inc.) bundled their funky forces with Francis and the Lights to create two funky-as-hell jams: Things That I Would Do and Eiffel Tower . Relivin' the 80's right here, feel free to join my travel through time. mp3 Francis and the Lights / Inc. - Things That I Would Do mp3 Francis and the Lights / Inc. - Eiffel Tower

► Sunset Junction's website teased a music lineup announcement today, but there's no word yet. There are plenty of great names floating around on the rumor mill for the Aug. 27-28 street fair. How would you feel about another blast from the Melvins (who did a Silver Lake residency in January)? Yeah, that'd be nice. So would some indie-rock from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Tapes N Tapes , as would some upbeat pop from the likes of Hanson and the Belle Brigade . Also unconfirmed [...]

Stones Throw is celebrating its quinceañera with a series of shows that will be recorded live, straight to vinyl, right there in the flesh. Sounds cool, huh? Try your luck and see if you can nab some tickets given away on Stones Throw's website, Twitter and Facebook. stonesthrow.com twitter.com/stonesthrow facebook.com/stonesthrow Stones Throw Direct-to-Disc #1 takes place Thursday, April 14, with Mayer Hawthorne & The County and jazz group Rick (featuring [...]

Ward Robinson Andrew and Daniel Aged grew up in small-town California aspiring to be musicians. But instead of the spotlight, they wanted to seize the shadows. The brothers dreamed of becoming session musicians on the greatest albums of their time. Lately though, the mission has changed. Dan and Andrew feel a calling to the stage. And so they give us Teen Inc., a funky soul party looking for its heart somewhere in Prince's mansion. This interview by Daiana Feuer. Did Teen Inc. start as a family affair? [...]
I arrived late, just in time to see the first act walk off stage. I don't know how her performance went, but her white gown was pretty and she was wearing horns. Hm. Surprised by a scant and unenthused crowd, I enjoyed having my face melted by Teen Inc. Young, funky, and smooth—Teen Inc. is like a private university educated version of Prince. Exquisitely executed genre music delivered with pizzazz. I was shocked to find that Os Mutantes would be playing next—leaving the headliner spot for Ariel Pink. Os Mutantes is one of my favorite bands of all time. I [...]

I tell ya, this year's just ZOOMED past! A combination of extreme hours at my (old) job , putting on shows in Newcastle , BLOGGING, ultra overseas vacationing and a high-level membership in "chillers delite" meant my attention span has shriveled even further into nothingness. L ife is tough but HONESTLY I get kinda worried about that and not listening to things closely enough etc and the way things are going and shit but it doesn't change the fact that there was a heap of "killer jams" out this year! Also just realized [...]

By Seraphina Lotkhamnga Those in search of a hero who embodied legacy or inspirational innovation — or both — were offered a luxurious affair with Os Mutantes and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti on Thursday night. It was not only the last show of a 23-date co-headlining tour between two very different pioneering acts, but it was also a revival for the eccentric and particularly unreserved. Graciously stepping aside to allow Ariel Pink to headline before his hometown crowd, Brazilian Tropicalia legends Os Mutantes quickly transformed the venue into an avant-garde [...]
I was filling in the blanks, pondering the simple things in life, when along came Elizabeth Fraser. The air left my lungs as she spoke to me on that oddly warm Halloween night by the city... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

Cameron Mesirow – who performs as Glasser – has been a busy girl lately. She dropped her debut LP , Ring , just a few weeks ago, and the Los Angeles-based one-woman orchestra has been on the road ever since. She found herself on tour with GAYNGS (even practing for the dates at Justin Vernon's barn/studio in Wisconsin) and the string of supporting dates culminated with the songstress covering Sade's "By My Side" with the megaband at last week's Bowery Ballroom show. Now, Matador has announced that after wrapping up [...]

Sometimes I get worried about the emerging/emerged genre of 'chillwave.' Tons of pressure on me because I 'invented it.' Maybe even more pressure on me as a 'tastemaker' than on the bands that actually have to use their computers to make new MP3s. Feel like I have a 'social responsibility' to chillwave, to 'stay on the metaphorical surfboard' until the chillwave thaws, and takes me under [via Caught in the undertow just caught in the undertow]. Maybe I should do more to 'keep it alive', and box more artists into the genre. Maybe it would [...]
