Self abuse - Teenage Cool Kids What ever happened to Teenage Cool Kids? I know they released another album that i still don't own, but have they since ceased to exist? They're just a band after all. That fragile being. Growing up or out of it, moving away from it, just losing interest in it. It takes a lot for a band to stay together. Maybe it's on my end - what ever happened to me? I used to have a line to this [...]

Landlocked State by Teenage Cool Kids Hailing from Denton, Texas, Teenage Cool Kids are a band that have a lot of fun things going for them: rough presentation, catchy melodies, slacker attitude, amusing lyrics. Of course, this is no surprise since one of the band's members is Fergus & Geronimo member Andrew Savage. Their debut album with his duo Fergus & Geronimo was reviewed and loved by me earlier this year. The song "Kachina Doll" features a great burst at the opening as Savage's nearly deadpan vocal gets [...]

Big Kids, those rad dudes from Oakland just posted a new song "Dad's Datsun" from their upcoming sophomore LP Phone Home. And I have tro say, this new song has me pretty stoked and regret not getting into these guys sooner. Look for it sometime in May and and check them out on tour in Europe. and check out the review of Black Kites and Teenage Cool Kids a while back. We like these guys too. -E | BANDCAMP | PROTAGANIST | Filed under: punk Tagged: [...]

I really struggled with making this list, there was a lot of great music this year, but I feel the albums I have picked have really left a strong impression on me and are also doing amazing things and need the recognition they deserve. -E Snowing "I Can Do Whatever I Wanted If I Wanted" Catchy midwestern emo from Pennsylvania, full of humorous, anecdotes, references to authors and movie that you have seen a million times and off-key singalongs. It is a fun, emotional record that goes great with [...]

Here's what's been keeping me entertained over the last few weeks. I am going to keep it short so you can let the music speak for itself. Cheers, Dwayne Bloc Party - Hunting for Witches (Crystal Castles Remix) Crystal Castles-Not In Love(Feat Robert Smith of The Cure) Human Life-Wherever We Are(Grum Remix) Jamie Woon - Wayfaring Stranger (Burial Remix) Kid Cudi-Scott Mescudi Vs. The World( Ft [...]

So, it's Wednesday again, and here's yet another change of concept: Four weeks ago, I introduced my dear readers to The Fallout , a series of mixes that were intended to cover bands/songs that I didn't post about, for whatever reason. Now, while I'm gonna stick with that basic idea, I thought if NFOP features tunes that other beloved blogs posted before, then I might as well mention them and pay tribute to the amazing discoveries these devoted folks make every day. Because above anything else, I'm still simply - a fan. So, the tracks you find below have [...]

Með hljómsveitanafnið Teenage Cool Kids er nokkuð ljóst að meðlimir sveitarinnar eru annað hvort óþolandi sjálfsdýrkendur eða kaldhæðnir húmoristar. Hvort sem er þá hljómar tónlist þeirra alls ekki illa og er þessi Texas sveit að gefa út sína þriðju breiðskífu, Denton After Sunset , í haust. Tónlist sveitarinnar minnir á kæruleysislegt indí og lo-fi rokk 10. áratugarins - sem er að sjálfsögðu hið besta mál! Tékkum á nokkrum glóðvolgum lögum af væntanlegri plötu: Teenage Cool Kids - Volvo To A Kiss Teenage Cool Kids - Volvo To [...]

No doubt that half the reason why we've been getting seriously sucked into a bunch of new Teenage Cool Kids cuts from their as yet incomplete third album is because the first track we spun was titled "Denton After Sunset" and transported us straight back to painting the Texan twilight red with a little help from our friends Shiner Bock & Miller Lite. These roving eyes of ours had plenty to pick out from the jams but we eventually settled on 'Volvo To A Kiss'; a scruffy, torn-collared, story-in-a-pop-song with an agitated riff that sounds like it's being [...]

Denton heroes Teenage Cool Kids , in the wake of their fantastic Foreign Lands LP, have been on the recording grind ever since. Their upcoming album proper, Denton After Sunset , still showcases their power-pop guitar driven identity but even shines on a side of early Silver Jews Americana. "Kachina Doll" and "Landlocked State" are both tracklisted on this album and equally portray the new sound that TCK are beginning to show. We hope to see this announced on an official roster sometime soon but, in the mean time, [...]

Gotta give a shout for Allston (that's Boston-ish for those of you not from Massachusetts) band Four Eyes . I've been listening to the songs on their new 73 for a little while and each time I do I get a little more excited about it. They have a bit of the sound of an early Teenage Cool Kids , fast, a little dirty, and always coming at you with a sweet melody line. Check out their muxtape to give 'em a quick listen, and if you like, pick up the 73. [...]

Denton is still in my opinion one of the gems of Texas, though many people will disagree, I think they may hold it to an unreachable standard. Nonetheless the music out of this city is incomparably eclectic and dense with talent. Keeping to this ideal Texas' own Play Pinball! Records, who you may know for putting out the Fungi Girls LP , have recently released a compilation honoring this city's musical virtuosity. The comp titled Denton Denton USA! features medley of bands formed in the town; the comp includes cuts from Uptown Bums, Video, Bad Sports, The [...]

Last week Ryan and I (hows that for grammar Ritchie?) presented our albums as a mutual effort. This time around we put together our own lists of 30 of our favorite songs this year. Think I've ripped through an entire legal pad and a full box of bic-sticks in the process, but I was finally able to squeeze this out. Honestly, my list could have topped 100 so feel free to tell me what a jerk I am for leaving something off. 30) Dirty Projectors - Cannibal Resource [...]
Thomas Function is certainly not a new band, but they first time I heard of them was almost exactly a year ago when they came through Denton and played a house show with Denton's own Wax Musuems and Teenage Cool Kids. Flash forward a year and coincidentally enough I was having a conversation about this band at our show last week which naturally steered towards a description of their sound and the only band that could be manifested in comparison was Velvet Underground. I'll expand on that by saying the band has a very strong influence from the southern-hometown-rock genre: [...]
The missing resin caper has been solved and Reading Rainbow 's LP was finally pressed onto vinyl about a month later than intended. Upon arrival, Mystical Participation will spend more than it's fair share of time with my phono. Also note that their record release party will be a thousand miles away from me in their hometown, Philly, at Kung Fu Necktie on the 21st. I actually saw RR last July at a house show in Denton with Teenage Cool Kids and Fungi Girls (who's debut LP is available for pre-order [...]
