Ottawa Bluesfest is Canada's equivalent to Summerfest, a week-long, all-out music extravaganza featuring more acts than the total population of Delaware. This year's edition, set for July 5-17 on the grounds of the Canadian War Museum, is topped by the reunited Soundgarden, My Morning Jacket, Death Cab For Cutie, A Perfect Circle, The Black Keys, Erykah Badu, The Tragically Hip, Death For Above 1979, The Flaming Lips, Girl Talk, and Ben Harper. Other notables include The Roots, Peter Frampton, John Fogerty, Buddy Guy, Steve Miller, Huey Lewis and the News, Jennifer Hudson, Rise Against, Dropkick Murphys, Tegan [...]

So jealous - Tegan and Sara There are a lot of people at my work who like Tegan and Sara. It might be only three or four if measured, but it's a number, and it's at my work. I know they like them because they wear Tegan and Sara merchandise when not in uniform. Not by talking to them about the band. That probably means they have seen them live - something i've still never done. Other people's ease. And work just called me [...]

Nostalgia: n a sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time (dictionary.com; I know, I know, great source). I write about nostalgia a lot. I will be the first to admit it. I have no shame! That will continue today, as today is the 23rd anniversary of my birth, and this gives me all the right to write anything that I so please. So how's it feel to be 23? I have no clue; it's only my first day of being 23. 22 was excellent though, by far the [...]

Sparrow and the Workshop recorded one of our first ever Toad Sessions. In fact, they were the first band I ever recorded all on my lonesome and, after a few rather panicked emails to my little brother who knows about this shit, it all seemed to go pretty well. So, not content with merely asking Meursault to join them on their next tour of England, they upped the level of niceness by offering to come round the house and record a sort of album preview podcast for their next record. Spitting Daggers comes out in a [...]
This morning for the drive in I put on If It Was You ( Tegan and Sara ) for the first time in quite awhile. I had one of those moments when I wondered why I ever listen to anything else. Especially with "And Darling (This Thing That Breaks My Heart)", which I listened to at least three times in a row. I love this quirky little song so much. This is totally the song I go for on an album: the odd, sad, acoustic track. It takes that side of a relationship [...]
Foo Fighters were the musical guests of Saturday Night Live last night and performed songs from their new album, Wasting Light as well as some comedy skits with the SNL Crew. for more coverage check out the post over here. You can still stream the entire album here. Grab your own copy on Amazon . (officially out April 12). We recently covered their show in Sydney at Goat Island as well as an excerpt from the band's Triple J Radio Interview in which Dave [...]

Quick...immediate names that spring to mind when the mention of Canadian musical acts come up in conversation? If you are imagining Celine Dion, Nickelback, Bryan Adams, KD Lang, Barenaked Ladies, Hedley, Wide Mouth Mason, Three Days Grace, Theory of a Deadman, Swollen Members, Sum 41, Simple Plan, Avril Lavigne or Alanis Morissette...shame on you. Although these bands and (questionable) musicians helped to shape the landscape of the Canadian Music Scene, they do little convey how talented our country truly is. I meant to put this post together after Arcade Fire pulled off their Grammy victory for [...]
Lovely things... Happy Sunday.

It's a hard world for musicians out there - they're faced with the obstacle of creating a new, interesting sound against the background noise of their successful predecessors. I very rarely hear a new song these days that doesn't remind me of something [...]
If you follow the twitter account @discographies (which gives brief, humorous summaries of various bands), you may have seen their very apt assessment of The Police's body of work. It said: The Police: "Suspects were arraigned & charged with [1-3] attempted reggae, impersonating a punk, [4] aggravated pomposity & [5] stalking." I've known this band for decades, thanks to my older sister's infatuation with them during my formative years. If there's one thing I ever really got from "Every Breath You Take" (from [...]
Theophilus London is the most original hip-hop artist I've ever listened. He's got the raw swag, an 80s-feel, and the fedora to match his beach shorts. Theophilus has just premiered "Why Even Try," which is the second single from his Lovers Holiday debut EP. He connects with Tegan and Sara's Sara Quin in this TMZ-style, paparazzi video. Check it out: Theophilus London - Why Even Try
Newport Folk Festival's 2011 lineup has been announced. Headliners are set to include: The Decemberists and Emmylou Harris. Elvis Costello, Gogol Bordello and Tegan & Sara will all be performing acoustic sets. A ton of other great acts such as: M. Ward, Delta Spirit, River City Extension and The Felice Brother are all apart of the massive two-day bill.

Theophilus' "Why Even Try" gets a matching, retro-fitting video directed by Bryan Schlam and a high-profile MTV debut. And with that, the underdog keeps gaining notches and new, well earned notices. Via MTV

Or How I Show My Gratitude To The Multitude Of People Who Follow This Blog Great music (and your messages) make me want to grab an umbrella and do it Marry Poppins style. Back in 2008 to 2009 when I have but little experience with blogging, listening to music and the science of uploading music altogether, I started this blog on the Blogger platform (since it was so hot that time). Named it "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk" at first from [...]

Heres is an amazing Toro Y Moi remix of Tegan and Sara's track Alligator which some how I missed when it was first dropped. Its an oldie but if you havnt heard or even if you had but forgot about it Enjoy. Tegan and Sara - Alligator (Toro y Moi remix) Remember to Like and Follow LYFSTYL on: [...]

Adam Levine in "Uncharted" Admit it: You love lip syncing to your favorite songs. Some of you even like recording yourselves while doing it. Imagine if your favorite stars did it and the video was made available for the world to see. Imagine no more! In the video for Sara Bareilles ' new single, Uncharted , a few of her friends recorded themselves lip syncing along to the song and their clips were put together to make up the video. The video features appearances from Maroon 5 [...]
Try to deny that this video is adorable. See? You can't. And if you can, it's because you're dead inside.

For Sara Bareilles' latest music video "Uncharted", the singer/songwriter dipped her toe into music video uncharted territory. The simple and charming vid is a collage of fun, homemade web cam lip dubs from an array of musicians including Pharrell, to Kanye Twitter singer Josh Groban, a fully-clothed Adam Levine, indie rock twins Tegan And Sara and a pajama-wearing Jennifer Nettles. The celeb submissions are combined with black and white footage of the "King Of Anything" songstress biking to the beach. Check out the Kaleidoscope Heart songbird's latest music vid with a special introduction from [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Tegan and Sara, Stars "More Amor - Young Hollywood" What's so good? Listening to More Amor is like getting in a time machine. All of the sudden, you're 16 again, driving along PCH on a summer afternoon with your car full of friends. Sunglasses, bottles of diet coke, and sweet tarts litter your seats. You're talking about something shallow yet fun, like whether or not your surfer boyfriends really get [...]
