If you missed the Boss last week, here's a taste of what Bruce Springsteen might sound like if he'd grown up with a modular synth instead of a fender six-string. Josh Eustis, still operating under the Telefon Tel Aviv sobriquet, just dropped an old cover of "I'm On Fire." No stranger to the remix realm, Eustis' recording comes from the summer of 2009, mere months after the death of his longtime bandmate and collaborator Charles Cooper. With a reputation for dynamic album-to-album changes, the duo's three full-length releases colored the early 2000s electronica scene with gentle breakbeat thunder and lavish ambient skies. Cooper's [...]
Telefon Tel Aviv posted an unreleased track from 2009 to Soundcloud this week, a haunting, minimalist nouveau new-wave take on The Boss' "I'm On Fire". Yes, that's a Springsteen cover. But producer-vocalist Joshua Eustis' take on the Springsteen classic has quite a bit of merit outside of its novelty- the synthesizers have more than a little bit of Kraftwerk in them, and the pained vocals carry all of the emotional weight of TTA's criminally underrated 2009 full-length Immolate Yourself . Eustis frequently performed "I'm On Fire" as an encore on his 2009 tour, to my knowledge the [...]

This new one from Ellen Allien ... Wow. Telefon Tel Aviv - The Birds (Ellen Allien Remix) ( buy )
Telefon Tel Aviv have mastered the art of balancing the bitter-sweet romance and occasionally excessive melancholy of so many 80s electro-pop pearls, dusting off their retro sleeves and presenting them in the form of lavish melodic epics. The new EP features the intoxicatingly beautiful album opener "The Birds" in its original version and in two remixes that could hardly be more contrasting: BPC label boss Ellen Allien spontaneously blows away the sombre fog clouds of the original with a crisp house beat and vibrant acid sequences. Ghostly International co-founder and self-confessed Brian Eno fan Matthew Dear has already revealed his [...]

As the clouds roll in from the shore and the cold chill of winter sets in I can't help but to feel somber and reminiscent of the winters past. Times like these call for some deep, melodic, chill and smooth IDM. Ooah of Glitch Mob has started a side project called Of Porcelain that has very much impressed me. From what I've heard of this new project it has a way of touching the soul of an individual without ever getting to intense. I really haven't heard such deep IDM since I last posted [...]

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] It doesn't get much better than this from Telefon Tel Aviv , featured on the new DJ-Kicks that was compiled by Apparat , moody darkness with a hefty scoop of tender details that release perfectly. One of the reasons why I don't truly review music on the blog is because I don't like to share music that I don't like, also sometimes albums fall in the lap of the wrong reviewer, I think thats what happened when Pitchfork gave this album a bad review, it [...]

To translate Apparat 's sonic universe into a DJ mix, conveying his unique approach through the work of other artists, is therefore not an easy task, but one that Sascha Ring manages with aplomb on his edition of !K7's DJ-KiCKS series. His own exclusive track 'Circles' starts out the selection, setting the tone with looped guitars, melancholic lyrics and drifting tones. What follows is an impeccably narrated one-hour journey through contemporary electronic music, contrasting favourites like Joy Orbison's 'The Shrew Would Have Cushioned The Blow' and Thom Yorke's [...]

Click image to download full album Sounds like: Apparat, Boards of Canada, Tycho "Telefon Tel Aviv - Sound in a Dark Room" What's so good? I am a big fan of the chillout/IDM genre but I have only recently started to dive into the sea of artists that encompass this type of music. As such, this review is for an album that was released in 2004, but is one that I feel deserves some recognition. [...]
Ghostly just dropped this one in. Tycho is graphic designer Scott Hansen's aka ISO50 musical project. His down-tempo, chilled out sounds are kept floating with gentle vintage pads, progressive percussion rhythm and dreamy late afternoon keyboards. His Past Is Prologue album, released in 2004 via Merck Records has just been re-issued by Ghostly International . [Video: Tycho- Past Is Prologue]-> Bad Fotography Recommends! -Video- A Circular Reeducation is a favorite off the album but then the faster [...]

I don't remember where I read this, but I seem to recall a story about ABBA - yes, ABBA - demoing each of their songs in every conceivable musical style, just to make sure that the inevitable Swede disco-pop version was, in fact, the track putting its best foot forward. In other words, somewhere out [...]

I first found out about Telefon Tel Aviv 2 years ago when I was digging for some Trip-Hop/IDM. This Electronica duo has always had a special spot in my heart. The melodic synths teamed with glitching bleeps and bloops touches the very core of my musical soul. Last year Jan 22nd 2009, great musician (and half of Telefon Tel Aviv) Charlie Wesley passed away . It came to me as a great shock that he had died so sudden, so young and only 2 days after their album release of Immolate Yourself. There was rumous that Charlie [...]
