Up until compiling this list, I was pretty sure 2011 was not a fantastic year for music. Well, I may have been completely wrong. There might not have been giant releases from the most prominent artists of our generation, but this is only because there are no more prominent artists of our generation. The internet and availability of music has made anybody a contender for making a great record, and I believe it has become a complete toss up as to who makes a future classic in any given year. Relax, for this is a good thing. Here's my big [...]
Watch the Portlandia stars sing Salt-N-Pepa's 'Push It' in San Francisco with help from Thao and Mirah.

Hi, Everyone! Well, it's that time of year again! The time when I get to pontificate about the top releases of the year. However, as usual, I have a really difficult time ranking things. This is something that carries over from my work as a professor. After all, what is the difference between a 93 and a 94? I know it when I see it, but just how to explain? So, I'm just going to wimp out present some of the albums I loved in no particular order. For those of you looking for a more [...]

2011 was a real chicken-and-egg kind of year in music. Was there really less amazing music or did everything sound a little duller because it was a difficult year for me personally? Was there less sonically interesting music in 2011 or was it because I cut way back on listening to music with headphones? Was there less originality or is it because we're so bombarded with music all the time that it just takes so much more to cut through the sheer volume? While it may have been for personal reasons, it did seem as though 2011 was [...]
[It's Buzz Bands LA staff writer Seraphina L's turn to share a year-end list ...] By Seraphina Lotkhamnga Choosing one's favorite albums of the year is always a daunting task, and it's even worse when you have to whittle your list down to 25. Here are my thoughts on 2011 albums (local and non-local), and I'll go ahead and say that it's been a really great year for L.A. bands to break out. My special mentions [...]

We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm. Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I'm going to do so through the use of a list. It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I'm going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. 40. Floating Action - Desert Etiquette Floating Action - Rincon The dusty, jangly Desert Etiquette is Floating Action's second release. The album has a great old feeling, [...]

It's hard to believe that 2011 is almost over. It seemed like not really that long ago that we were putting together our Best Songs of 2010 mixtapes (now working on Vol. IV for 2011) - which by the way, are still up and running (a few missing mp3 links, but 90% operational), and well [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe
Love or hate The Smiths , it's a testament to their songwriting legacy that the B-side "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want" alone has been covered more than a dozen times by artists ranging from the Deftones and The Dream Academy to Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward. Reactions to The Smiths' music run from delirious adoration to not being able to stand the sound of Morrissey's voice; Please, Please, Please is a must-get for the former category and just may be the most perfectly acceptable dose of Moz for those who fall into the [...]

Dusdin Condren Yes, it's the shortest month but February is generally acknowledged as the coldest, darkest and generally shittiest month as well. Which is why it's nice that Sharon Van Etten and Shearwater are teaming up to make sure that there's something lovely to look forward to for at least three weeks of the four. On February 7, Van Etten will release Tramp , her third album and the follow up to 20102s gorgeous epic . Pitchfork has details [...]

Assista aqui:
