telephone jim jesus - "dice raw (feat. yoni wolf & pedestrian)" (download) Somehow this record from one of my best friends and bandmates, Telephone Jim Jesus , has come up twice this week, so I thought I'd post one of my favorite tracks from it. "Dice Raw" features Anticon's Pedestrian and Yoni Wolf of WHY? on vocals, as well as a couple of tasteful "record drop-ins" from myself. I play drums on a few of the songs from [...]

madness2012 - "hang the way" (download) Meet Madness2012 (known to his friends as Justin Delaet). Master beatboxer, prolific MC, and all-around great guy. He's been doing this rap thing for many years now. Back in the day, he appeared on one side of a split cassette single that I put out with some friends. The song was called " Bullshit ," and on the flipside was Telephone Jim Jesus 's first ever recorded vocal appearance on a song called " Tapeworm ." Madness2012 has [...]

Thank God It's Thursday has become our excuse to get toasted and stuff our faces with bacon dogs on a weekday, but that doesn't mean we can't get it done with class! This Thursday we welcome Telephone Jim Jesus (anticon.), JessTheFacts , and Justin 'Corpsewall' Cornwall to Out of Asia for an evening of turntablism, 90s rap, and experimental sounds. There will be chillin', casual drinking, bacon dogs (as stated previously), and more asian imports than you'll know what to do with. All are welcome and admission is $5 to keep the doors open. Telephone Jim Jesus - Birdstatic (Anticon. 2007) Telephone Jim Jesus - Anywhere Out of the Everything / Anticon. I hate it when my favorite blogs go on hiatus. Whether permanent (RIP Funtime OK , Spoilt Victorian Children , et al) or temporary (Us in the past two weeks), it means less to learn about. If you're only updating once a week as it is, the established precedent ensures one never gets their hopes up too high. I never had illusions about being able to review forever, [...]

...if you're looking to go broke on a bevy, nay, a slew of excellent independent releases set loose today. the obvious choice is the shepherd's dog ( no shit ), but dig deeper, and september 25 will reward you in ways you could not have dreamt. faced with a list longer than my arm, there are two albums released today you might overlook, but do so at your peril. two gallants let loose with their third LP, the appropriately titled two gallants ( buy [...]
Telephone Jim Jesus - A Mouth of Fingers I never thought I would say this, but I kinda miss New Hampshire. I mean, Brooklyn is my home, my job, my life, but you can only sit in traffic for so long or pay some exorbinant fine fee or asking price before you start to think of a simpler time. Those fucking über-creepy long drives on roads with no lights, speed limit signs or route markers. I listened to a lot of music like this up there, it's where I first discovered Anticon and the dark wonders of instrumental whatever-hop....

I can't help but associate the name with this song but its an entirely different deal. Telephone Jim Jesus is an experimental electronic hip hop dude hailing from Oakland Cal. Signed to the esteemed Anticon records his new album is Anywhere Out of the Everything the latest predominately instrumental full-length. 2007 has been a great year for instrumental records and this is a very good one. Check out a track and let me know what you think. The record is more varied and than your typical [...]

i don't think it can be much more obvious than that. my love is newfound, however - i didn't start enjoying anticon. releases until march of this year - a shameful admission, possibly, but it hasn't been for lack of trying. for years previous, i gave multiple anticon. artists multiple listens, without any of them resonating. why? was the first anticon. artist i listened to, only because the person who first reviewed his sanddollars ep for my college radio station was absolutely smitten with it. needless to say, i was not. but ears mature, [...]

Am I jaded already? Downloading and listening to the electronic section from SXSW, I can't help thinking the entire samples feels like the 80's. A solid mix of Bloc Party and Debbie Gibson , as if the selection panel is overdozing on New Order , mild house techno and synth overflow. Did we just come out of Disco era or something? I thought we are 30 years pass that. What's up with that? nyah. The entire selection is in radio friendly 3 minutes long, but by blog standard it is [...]
