The Ting Tings (via band's myspace) Guess it doesn't matter that half of the regional artists are in Texas or slowly making their way back home, because there are some absolutely stellar shows this weekend to check out. Loads of huge names, plus quite a few locals that you don't see much of. Friday The Ting Tings are at 9:30 Club for a sold out show (seems to be a lot of them recently). Along for the ride is [...]
Add your own adjective to finish off the title (plus it ties in nicely with a little gem later). Snow, ice, rain and damn cold weather can't keep this fine weekend of music away. Lots of talent from the region and elsewhere are out and about. Here is what's happening. Recently introduced to me by a friend (thanks Daniela!), Telograph , a D.C. band, is an up-and-comer in the local and national arena. A rock/pop outfit, Telograph is Arash Ardalan (drums), Andy Boliek (vocals/guitar), Matt Dosberg (bass) and Matt Kenchington (guitar). It is clear from their latest self-titled digital EP that Telograph is looking to create an atmospheric sound with soaring vocals, self-proclaimed "driving guitars", and an overall upbeat demeanor. I'd be surprised if their radio-friendly music isn't featured on television or a feature film sometime in the near future. If you want to sing along to [...]

Summer is winding down, kids are going back to school and bands are finishing their summer tours or starting fall ones. This weekend is very front heavy with a lot of action on Friday then tapering down to a single show on Sunday. Most are one city shows so be sure to check out who is where. The 80's are making a huge comeback. So many artists and groups that thrived in the early MTV era are going out on reunion tours after years of not performing. [...]
Since this wee's mix coincides with our site's anniversary, I thought that it would be appropriate to make a mix of some bands that have helped keep us in business over the years. The Vita Ruins - Godspeed To That Polytheist The Jaguar Club - The Sirens Bound Stems - Taking Tips From The Gallery Gang Jukebox the Ghost - Victoria Telograph - The Fever AVEC - Ageyeva Papertrigger - We Are Nations Now! These United States [...]

Many, many options this weekend in the area to catch your favorite music. Every night has something definitely worthwhile, all over the region. Friday Imperial China is having a CD release party and they want you there! They are with Double Dagger , Zulu Pearls , and the Black & White Jacksons . Catch them at the Rock and Roll Hotel in DC. One of my picks for Best of Philly '07 (and in serious contention for it this year [...]

Alright, so I am last like always. However, I do promise that this is it. Finally, the end of our 2007 retrospectives. After this one, we move forward and start talking about some music from 2008. Anyway, here is my Best of 2007 post. For my list, I decided to stick to the Baltimore/Washington region. Enjoy... 3 Best Regional EPs credit 3. Bellman Barker - Anise & Anisette Last [...]

Let's keep this simple. To me, this site has always been about supporting the local music scene. So I decided, that there is no better way to celebrate our first anniversary, than to make a mix of local music from the past year. I had so much fun, that I ended up making two discs. Some of these bands have come a long way in the last 12 months, some didn't even exist when we started and others are no more. That said, every song is from a band that claims (or claimed) the Baltimore/Washington metro area as [...]

Believe it or not, 2007 is half over. That makes it the perfect time to mention my favorite Baltimore/DC Region CDs from the first part of this year. Keep in mind, that there are some local CDs that I have yet to attain, so I can't pass judgement on them at this time. Between those and several big ones that are slated for release over the last 6 months of the year, it will be interesting to see how this list changes. Regardless, these are the discs that have made the greatest dents on my iPod and CD player [...]

There is a huge show at Black Cat on Friday night. Middle Distance Runner , Telograph and The Hard Tomorrows will all be playing the main stage. To celebrate, I have a pair of tickets to give away. To enter, send me an e-mail with your first name and location. Winner will be contacted by the end of the week. Good Luck! Middle Distance Runner - Man of the People Telograph - We Won't Settle Down The Hard Tomorrows [...]

I have returned from a long weekend at the beach. I am pretty sure that I couldn't have sold my right arm for better weather. So the weather was good, I relaxed a little, played some golf and oh yeah, watched some bands. The highlights of the weekend were The April Skies , Telograph and Middle Distance Runner . Anybody who has any familiarity with this site, is far from shocked by that announcement. In all fairness, those were basically the only bands that represented the indie genre. The April [...]

Telograph is an up and coming band from Washington, DC. While they are known around the region for being really nice guys, they are also a really solid band with some pretty catchy songs. They write the kind of songs that you want to hear over and over and have stuck in your head for days. We asked them to do this, because we wanted you to know about them before everybody else starts mentioning their name. There are definitely indications that big things lie ahead for them, because they play The Patriot Center mere days [...]
Yeah, the rumors are true. Today is my birthday. Thanks to everyone that has wished me well. I was trying to figure out what the hell I wanted to do for my birthday post, then it kind of hit me. I wanted to do a mix of some type. I also have been wanting to do a mix of some of the best local music, so it seemed like a good fit. This mix includes bands from the Baltimore, Washington, and the southcentral Pennsylvania region. This is the whole region that I cover. [...]

According to the Washington Post, D.C.'s Telograph is "the kind of local band that's so great it should be famous, but isn't yet." The band plans on releasing their first EP titled Little Bits of Plastic in December. They have been compared to the likes of Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes, however, according to Telograph bass player, Gary On, "[Telograph's] music has a more atmospheric quality than either of these bands. You will hear elements of The Cure, Radiohead, Oasis, New Order, Jeff Buckley and U2 because, collectively, that's what we grew up listening [...]

One of the great bands playing Baltimore Music Con on Saturday, is Telograph . They are an indie rock quartet out of Washington, DC. Anyway, Andy (the lead singer) sent me a special mp3 to post as promotion for this show. Since it is so unique, I didn't want it to get lost with all of the other mp3's listed in my weekly preview. The track is an almost final cut from their new cd that they should have finished in the next week. This is the only mp3 of any of [...]
