Download : Caveman - "Thankful" New York's Caveman start of this weeks mix with "Thankful" an ideal mix of Brooklyn texture and that chilled out vibe all of us are looking for as the year wears down towards its close. These guys remind me of what Bishop Allen (one of my all-time favorites) could potentially [...]

These mixes were posted in January and February 2010, the winter of our discontent. Seriously, the blog was on life support during this time. We're through that storm now. 2010 was such a great year for music, and these early mixes show why. Many of the tracks were available in late 2009, but appeared on 2010 releases. Tracks are from late October through late November 2009 Gapless mix ripped at 256k VBR. Download all tracks in one zip file [...]

Teen Witch is Tyler (formerly of Tempo No Tempo , presently of Grooms ) and Caroline (of The Splinters ). They have a new(ish) EP which fits one side of a cassette with so much rock and roll, they had to leave the other side blank for balance sake. The "smokey black" cassette is available via the Whoa Whoa label in a limited run of 150 cassettes (and naturally comes with a digital download). Listen. Downloadable: I Don't Mind (mp3) The cassette art looks something like this: [...]

Listen to/download some Tempo No Tempo songs HERE Occasionally - OK, all the effin' time - I get a record in the mail and ignore it. There are many reasons for this. Sometimes the packaging just screams, "This is horrible, don't even listen to it." I always give a listen, but packaging is important (as [...]

To celebrate Jason's return to the City by the Bay, last night we trekked out to the Rickshaw Stop in San Francisco to catch the final live performance of Bay Area trio Tempo No Tempo. For their last act they put on an energetic show in support of Born Ruffians (who were themselves phenomenal, but this [...]

We're sad to report that Tempo no Tempo 's journey as a Bay Area indie mainstay is drawing to a close. In a recent email, the band wrote: It's been an amazing stretch of bandhood, and we've accomplished more than we had dreamed of during our existence. We particularly want to thank our former bandmate Chris Cadena for playing with us for four years, Shawn Reynaldo for putting out our 2nd record and always calling us out to be a better band, the lovely Splinters for being our sister band, CK Ladzekpo [...]

Tempo No Tempo 's Waking Heat made it into my Top 50 Albums of 2009 thanks to rockin' dub beats and intense vocal hooks. Top songs, in my opinion, were "The Rat (Pt. 1)" and "Medicine". Just under those two stellar tunes is "Pole Position", and it is that song to which they've given video treatment. The song features the band's signature dub beats but forays momentarily into harmony tonal vocals then dives straight into a little guitar freak-out before transitioning straight into the next tune, "Kilometer". The video kind of [...]
The twists and jolts in this new noir mystery for Tempo No Tempo 's "Pole Position" may induce some motion sickness, but if you turn it off, you won't find out where they end up! Not only did these three take the long route back from Austin, TX, but they can't seem to stay home for very long these days. Starting with the Hemlock tonight, they're headed out for a few dates with Dinowalrus (NY): April 27th - Hemlock Tavern, SF: Ingot Rot (Tussle side [...]
