So I already gave you one , two lists of 2011 records worth checking out. I also gave you lists from some of Atlanta's finest musicians and music listeners - Alex , Matt , Richard and Erik . The bowl season is in full swing, the playoffs are almost set and it's that last day of the year, so what do I have left for 2011? Just one more list. These are the records that we discovered, or rediscovered, in 2011 that did not come out in [...]

Yeah, it was 42 years ago this weekend, more or less. I came upon a child of God, he was walking along the road. And I asked him, "Where are you going?" And this he told me: "Sir, you can park up in the parking lot." He was one of the volunteers who hang around the green, grassy fields where they held the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, about 42 years ago. We drove up there from New York City on a hot July Monday, and we walked through the nice museum and the [...]
This Audio Fidelity 24K + CD edition is the ultimate Ten Years After experience.

well, ill be gosh-darned-damned, my man tommy keene as a new record coming out on 8.20 entitled behind the parade . if you arent familiar with mr keene's work, you need to be, 4 realz! the man, in my opinion, has crafted some of the best pop/rock and cant-get-those-damn-songs-out- of-your-head infested records of the past 10-15 years. i havent heard it as of yet, but i am definitely loving the first single. if youre curious definitely start with ten years after, which is best, or at least thats my opinion. buy it via amazon [...]

Spent a few days without a working computer ... it was a virus and thankfully not one of those fearful tornadoes. Anyway, we dip back into our own personal collection of "hippie" records and pull out this masterpiece, A Space In Time , the 1971 LP from Ten Years After. We've covered this band once before, when we reviewed Cricklewood Green from 1970. There we posed the theory that by the turn of the decade Alvin Lee and company were looking ahead to take the music forward, along [...]
The Hoboken trio records 36 spontaneous covers, chosen by listeners, to support to Jersey station.

We recently discussed the influences of Keith Richards and came across Scotty Moore and Chuck Berry. Wouldn't you know it? Alvin Lee of Ten Years After was also a fan of these two gentlemen. My guess is they weren't the only ones in England. We all know who Chuck Berry is, but who is Scotty Moore again? Here we go again with the rhythm guitarist discussion again. Scotty Moore was not a rhythm guitarist, but he played with one by the name of Elvis Aaron Presley. Thanks to Sam Phillips, Scotty Moore played with Presley from 1954 until he went [...]

I was first introduced to Ten Years After through their third album Stonedhenge way back in 1969. Although the album itself was quite experimental for some reason it 'registered' with me and their following four albums became firm favorites of mine and still get an airing from time to time these days. Ten Years After may have reached a wider audience as a result of Woodstock, however one way or another they would have broken through with their explosive mixture of rock'n'roll, blues and exceptional musicianship. This is Ten Years After live at the [...]

Remember when you had a record player that could stack about five or six 45 rpm singles on a spindle, and they dropped onto the turntable one at a time ... I gotta say, sometimes I feel that modern technology has taken some of the romance out of life. Ah well, here are some more singles: Let's get crazy right out of the chute ... Ten Years After was a British blues/rock/psychedelic band from the late 1960s, most famous of course for their 11-minute boogie "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock. That song originally appeared on the [...]

LEGENDARY by Julie Stoller ADVANCE NOTICE: Boston - Tuesday 8/31/10 the HOUSE OF BLUES It sucks to be ahead of your time... The trick is to live long enough to be fully vindicated and reap the emotional (and financial) rewards of those years of isolation, when you thrashed and screamed and spilled your [...]

Its nice to see these largely forgotten guys from bands like Humble Pie and Uriah Heep have still got it after all these years. Music - Arts - Uriah Heep - Compilation album - Bands and Artists
Ten years ago, the debut album of Mount Carmel would have probably not been accepted easily and it would have probably been slaughtered by the press. Why? Because Mount Carmel who just released their album with Siltbreeze, sounds like a tribute band to Mount Carmel and its musical heroes. But these days, it's the post-whatever era, and therefore I declare this album as a post-blues-rock-seventies-styl e. There, I came up with a genre, I should have my name in the new-journalism hall of fame. This trio from Colombus, Ohio, is all [...]

The guitar and rock & roll go hand in hand - or least hand on fretboard. Even before Link Wray poked holes in the speakers of his amp to create distortion, guitars have been the foundation on which rock & rock was built. B.B King named his guitar Lucille, a name more familiar to his legion of admirers than the names of either of his wives - or even his bandmates. As well, most hardcore rock fans could tell you a few different guitar models. The Fender Strat and Gibson Les Paul are household names in the rock world. How [...]

It's always cool to hear artists perform songs that you've always known from listening to records. I remember once seeing the Who in the Houston Astrodome, and when Pete Townshend hit those familiar chords to begin "Pinball Wizard," I literally got goosebumps because this was a song I'd heard thousands of times on the radio and on record. It's even better when an artist or band plays a song you had completely forgotten about. This was the case last year at the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, held at the Bethel Woods Center in New York. Ten Years After [...]

Photo taken outside my house in SB, more of a reason to come up for New Years... The Smiths - What Difference Does It Make? (Hit play before you start reading... the song lays down the mood yo...) The 'study' of politics is like walking through a mind field, if you disregard your surroundings you'll wind up loosing a limb, or worse, your life, but if you surround yourself in the problems at your feet, you'll never move from your initial steps. Ten Years After formed in 1966 (after Elvis 1956?) This was an anthem for my mates and I Woodstock - I've seen this dozens of times MP3 69p The Bluest Blues Album Cricklewood Green

While Luther Dickinson has been spending his off time from the NMAS as a member of the Black Crowes, his band mates brother Cody and Chris Chew have a side-project of their own - the Southern blues and boogie-rock band Hill Country Revue , that also features Ed "Hot" Cleveland (drums), Daniel Coburn (vocals/harp) and Kirk Smithhart (guitar/vocals). The band, who released their debut album Make a Move today, are set to hit the road later this month for a mix of festival appearances, club dates and two support slots for Dave Matthews Band that [...]

As we told you about two months ago, Woodstock promoter Michael Lang was in search of a spot to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. And after scoping out Prospect Park's Long Meadow for the event, it has now been confirmed that the festival will instead be getting back to its roots; taking place at its original location in Bethel Woods, with a handful of the original performers added on to the roster. According to the Associated Press [via The [...]
