by ryan s. (pics by charles poladian) I'm happy to report that we've made it back to Brooklyn after another year of sweating through four fantastic days of music and human interaction in Manchester, TN for Bonnaroo 2010. Showers and mattresses never feel as good as when you finally get back from the crazy trek. This year's line-up paled in comparison to Roos past , but the experience remained supreme thanks to some powerful sets, camp ground story times, shady hammocks and a nonstop bouquet [...]
Plenty of video clips from Bonnaroo 2010 have been uploaded to YouTube already with hundreds more to come soon. This morning we want to share a video from Bonnaroo featuring "the greatest song in the world." Tenacious D may not play many shows these days, but this full band performance of Tribute shows The D is still capable of hate fucking your earholes... Tenacious D - Tribute/ Pinball Wizard

When you arrive in Manchester, Tennessee, you know you're at Bonnaroo . The heat hits you like a ton of bricks, if those bricks were each tiny little suns. The heat this year was the worst that it's been in a long time, even with the near constant threat of rain, which fell on Wednesday to make for a muddy Centeroo. But after nine years, we've come to expect the mud and the heat. They're hallmarks of Bonnaroo. And even though some people didn't expect this year to live up [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive , Politics as Usual Since the passing of Arizona's controversial AZ SB 1070, aka "the immigration law," which requires citizens to carry papers to prove their legalized status at the discretion of local police, the music community responded immediately, with Cypress Hill and Pitbull having already canceled scheduled shows in Arizona. But that looks to be just the beginning. Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha has [...]

There's a growing call from musicians to boycott the state of Arizona due to their recent passing of an immigration law that allows local authorities to stop anyone they feel may be an illegal citizen. Leading the charge is none other than Rage Against The Machine. Billboard reports that a website called thesoundstrike.net has been made so artists can join the campaign and refuse to play in Arizona until the state repeals the new law. Artists that have signed on include Serj Tankian, Conor Oberst, Tenacious D, Sonic Youth, Joe Satriani, [...]
Tenacious D - Dio live One of the greatest voices of Rock and Roll will be greatly missed.

Filed under: News , New Music , Exclusive It's been, what, three decades since Meat Loaf exploded on the rock 'n' roll circuit like a bat out of hell? It was 1977 when he released the album 'Bat Out of Hell' and its hits earned a little bit of a name for the singer as it sold something like 43 million copies worldwide and remains the third biggest-selling album of all time. And although Meat Loaf eventually followed it up with two proper sequels, this year he has other [...]
Filed under: The Hit List For every rock opera as artistically and commercially successful as Pink Floyd ' s 'The Wall' or Green Day 's 'American Idiot,' there are several more that barely earn their classification as a "musical." Here are 10 concept albums that were notably unclear on the concept. 10. 'Psychoderelict,' Pete Townshend If the Who get two entries on any Top Ten list of best rock operas, resident storyteller Townshend can surely take [...]

In the past few years much ink has been spilt discussing "mashups," the process of remixing two or more songs together. The weirder the combination, the more impressive the feat. DJs like Girl Talk lead the charge, but due to differing keys and tempos the pairings sometimes sound forced. Mashup covers, on the other hand, have more freedom. Here are ten odd couples and unchained medleys that,

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News M.I.A. has plans to go hard this summer by headlining two single-day festivals in Los Angeles and New York, respectively. The gigs -- HARD LA (July 17) and HARD NYC (July 24) -- will also feature Rye Rye and Sleigh Bells , from M.I.A.'s own N.E.E.T. crew, along with a day's worth of other artists, who will perform on two stages. In addition to being M.I.A.'s first 2010 appearances, the festivals will be, shall we say, "neat" [...]

"I think right now we really need to do this for ourselves." Guitarist John Konesky spits some truth about Trainwreck.
A list of shows that you don't want to miss this week
The Academy Awards were last night. The competition was fierce, the dresses were stunning, the upsets were upsetting, the…alright, I admit, I tuned out after fifteen minutes. What I do know is that for the first time the Oscars removed the live musical performances from the show, killing the one enjoyable part about the whole thing. So instead we'll bask in nostalgia with covers of ten

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Kyle Gass of Tenacious D fame released his "other" band Trainwreck 's first studio album, 'The Wreckoning,' in December 2009, but don't go thinking this is another comedy act. "We're the real deal. We'll kick your ass," Gass tells Spinner. Trainwreck's out to prove it with a US tour that launches in Long Beach, Calif., on Feb. 27. "I'm taking it to the road. I'd like to visit every city in the United States. We have [...]
The rage that is Kyle Gass has taken a step aside from The Greatest Band on Earth to shred acoustic with a new group. They are not a tribute. You've gotta believe me. Behold, Trainwreck , a band which describes itself as a "cornucopia of rock and a five-headed hydra of pleasure," which makes sense - after all, Kyle was the D's French tickler . The band features of a colorful mix of characters like Boy Johnny, Dallas St. Bernard, and John Bartholomew Shredman playing (guess what) electric guitar. Then, there's "Klip [...]
This is a bit of a departure for HV, but I can't stop thinking about this cat and imagining the song being written and performed: ...also, it made me think of this:
