A little later than planned, it's finally that time for me to throw my hat into the never-ending 'album of the year list' ring. I've read a lot of posts dismissing all the end of year fanfare this time around but I enjoy reading lists and I'm sure many other of you do. The following five posts will be the albums I've decided make my favourite twenty five releases of the year, I've given them in order but naturally that seemingly changes every two minutes so is not to be taken too seriously (as if), there have been about 30/35 [...]

Photos and words by Abby Line Guitarist/vocalist Dave Dupuis (Film School) and bass player/vocalist Swaan Miller team up with hard-hitting drummer Jimmy Lucido (Light FM/Noise By Numbers) in LA indie rock band Nightmare Air. The noisy, electrifying band is holding residency at Silverlake Lounge on Wednesdays in December with heavy, haunting guitar soundscapes and driving percussion. Joining the band to kick off the first night of the residency were Jason Simon of Dead Meadow, Tennis System, and punk rock Detroit-transplants Smelly Tongues. Nighmare Air: [...]
It’s that time of year when every music website, publication and blog (including this one) are busy compiling end of year lists. This time around, I thought I’d shift the focus to the bands and artist’s who’ve played a ‘BarryGruff Presents’ show this year and ask them for their ‘favourite album of 2012′, ‘favourite song [...]

Yesterday's good highlighted some of the year's best debuts, which makes today the perfect opportunity to highlight tracks from some of 20122s most impressive sophomore efforts. I can only imagine how difficult it is to follow up a debut album, especially when the sophomore release is in high demand. The bands below most definitely avoided the dreaded "sophomore slump", none better so than The xx. Coexist was my most anticipated release of the year and it exceeding all of expectations. Easily my favorite album of the year. And like yesterday's good, the tracks below are a very small [...]

Here is a rather awesome surprise today, as Spotify Sessions enlists Spoon drummer Jim Eno to curate some great bands in his studio Public Hi-Fi . Included on the list of performers is Father John Misty, the Shins, Michael Kiwanuka , Poliça, Gardens & Villa and Tennis . Besides the dad rock of Father John Misty, this is a pretty special indie rock treat for those of you with Spotify on your computer. And how good does Kiwanuka sound live? That man is a living, breathing specimen of vintage magic. Anyway, head over to [...]

Because at least two of you asked for it, here's the third part of my Top 25 Albums of 2012 . As I’ve said, I easily could have listed 50 releases, but I realized that half of those would have been albums that I only listen to when I’m in a particular mood. In other words, they’re not immediately accessible, and that to me knocks them down a notch. So, if you’re looking for 25 releases that you can immediately dive into and love, this is the place to be. Enjoy. [...]

Alright, so I have a treat for you. Being that I spent Thanksgiving week on vacation in Vancouver, WA with my parents - yes, a full week - I was out of town for my normal Friday show. Rather than having Stuarto cover for me, as holidays aren't the best for extra shifts at the radio station, I put together a pre-recorded show. So I'm presenting that to you now, in full form. Here's the track so you can begin streaming, and below that is the setlist to enjoy while [...]

Aujourd’hui installé à Berlin, notre comparse a notamment fondé le label Life and Death qui regroupe Pillowtalk et autres Tale of Us.

This post was curated and written by the band Tennis . You can catch them performing live tonight, October 8th in Washington, DC at the Rock 'N Roll Hotel. Tickets are available HERE . God Bless Devon Williams. At first listen, you wouldn't think Devon is the next Bruce Springsteen and, let me set the record straight, he's not - but the two have way more in common than you think. A self-made man (there's a rags to riches story somewhere in here), with heart, soul, and most importantly, an amazing [...]

This post was curated and written by the band Tennis . You can catch them performing live tonight, October 8th in Washington, DC at the Rock 'N Roll Hotel. Tickets are available HERE . Every once in a while we stumble upon a band that seems to belong to a different era; the occasional artist that you know would have been much more at home in the 602s or 702s. More rarely, there are bands that rather than harken back to a previous era, seem to bring that era [...]

One of the great things about this year of Pygmalion Festival is that since it was condensed to three days instead of the normal four days (or in the case of 2010, five), the festival organizers were able to fit a ton more of fantastic bands into one night, all killer no filler if you will. Friday night was the best example of that, starting with great sets by Tennis and Dirty Projectors in downtown Urbana. No slight to Best Coast, but as far as band's that play [...]
