The once-seafaring indie-pop duo Tennis are heading out on tour then back in the studio to put together a follow-up to this year's sophomore record Young and Old , but they're taking this opportunity to release a cover of classic New York post-punk band Television 's "Guiding Light," one of our favorite tracks on that band's masterpiece, Marquee Moon . It's awesome to hear Tennis's golden-voiced Alaina Moore take on Television's Tom Verlaine's tongue-twisting, melancholic lyrics, and Patrick Riley take on those jangly, electrifying guitar riffs. As Tennis are about to embark on their Fall tour with Wild Belle, they drop off a cover of Television’s “Guiding Light”. Not many groups make better tender pop tunes than these guys, and this is another gem of a cover. Alaina Moore just sounds spectacular on those build ups. Must say, I like this much better than the original.
