Popop

Tenniscoats - Baibaba Bimba ( mp3 ) Pastels/Tenniscoats - Vivid Youth ( mp3 ) [...]

If you are looking for an early pregame to your most likely Halloween-related activities this Friday night (and you reside in the Tri-State area - or serendipitously happen to be visiting the UES ), stop into to the Manhattan branch of the Asian Society for the premiere of Live From Tokyo - a documentary focusing on Edo's chaotic indie music scene. On any given night in Tokyo, there are hundreds if not thousands of bands thumping the pavement playing small venues in the interest of pushing indie music's sonic [...]

I've loved this Japanese duo-near-collaborative for quite sometime. They are experimental, but soft and delightful. Get the song below! Baibaba Bimba
Sad girly japanese indie-pop.
This video is an entire live set of their show at Point éphémère . If you click the link you can watch it on the original site where it's split into chapters. The video quality is impeccable and the songs sound so beautiful live! So many thanks to Brogues for pointing this out a few days on the list. I've been glued to it all morning, and I'm thinking that some of you may end up doing the same once you check it out.

So here we are at Day 2 of the "Best of 20093 Blogger Crew and today is a monster post from E. over at Das Klienicum . It's a monster because he is posting on his top 50 albums of the year and he even has ratings broken out by number of stars (ranked out of 5 as best)....ummm, top 50 people!! There isn't gushing, there isn't microscopic dissection of each album in order to create some sort of reasoning, there is simply that feeling when you just know that this album is good and [...]

It's been a while since we had time to compile the best songs that have crossed our path recently. You'll find that we've added links to purchase some of the songs through iTunes. When that wasn't possible, we've given you the link to the band's myspace page. We're going to pass on describing the songs this time. Go in with an open mind and know that we're challenging you with the best music we could find. Grand Analog Electric City (Feat. Shad) [...]

This week's podcast features Girls. They're a Cali duo who like to play it safe. Their debut album, titled Album, isn't groundbreaking or adventurous, but it is catchy. Pulling heavily from bros like Elvis Costello, Wreckless Eric, and the Beach Boys, this album was classic before it was pressed. We've also got new tracks from Wildbirds & Peacedrums, Islands, and Alvin Band.'Tis a podcast that

Check out the double-A side from The Pastels [ MySpace ] and Tenniscoats [ MySpace ] ("Vivid Youth") which is available now at Domino's online shop ; it's a pretty cool collabo, for sure. If you're not into videos, well, I will have you know that these two bands also put together a phenomenal cover of Jesus and Mary Chain 's "About You" that you can grab free of charge "after the jump" [...]

I really like both of these bands individually, but as all-time indie arranged marriages go, this superficially perfect match doesn't quite dunk the biscuit, as far as I am concerned. It's fey and wan and awfy, awfy twee but honestly it lacks bite. Imagine a cover of some of Belle & Sebastian's dreamier material, but without any rhythmic zip, melodic inventiveness or vocal bite. That comparison material is pretty close to the limit in terms of being just a little too breezy for my taste, and this album is a considerable distance the wrong side of that particular [...]
