A few weeks ago, I got an invite to go to David Draiman's house in Texas. He was going to provide food from the best barbecue joint in Austin. The catch? I had to listen to the new album from his new project, Device . Mmmm, barbecue. How bad could it be, right? Mmmm, barbecue. 'Mad' David Draiman. He's the singer from Disturbed. He made that weird monkey noise in rock club floor-filler, 'Stupify' . He's the guy with those [...]
Yesterday, we gave you the video for Kendrick Lamar's " Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe. " Coincidentally, Raven Lore of Fort Worth, Texas dropped an EP of cover songs - one of which is a medley of Kendrick Lamar tracks. "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe," makes an appearance in the medley, but I'll let you have your fun and pick out the tracks on your own. There's a music video that you can watch here too. Listen and download the project that features fresh takes on Regina Spector, Kings of Leon, Brittany Spears and Fleet Foxes. [...]

20132s Austin City Limits billed a wide array of artists spanning almost every genre, which is suspicious in that Austin's claim to fame, second only to "being weird," is the equally eclectic and massive SXSW. It's sort of mind-blowing that a city with population under 1MM can support as many festivals as Austin hosts these days, but I guess if you build it they will come? Or something? In all seriousness though, I had many a conversation with SXSW veterans while I was in town last, who've watched the event swell over the last 15 years, [...]
In their 25th anniversary year Texas release their brand new studio album The Conversation through [PIAS] Recordings on May 20th 2013. Following the album release, Texas will return in November with a full UK tour including a headline London show at Hammersmith Apollo and a string of dates around the country. Texas’s eighth album, The Conversation is their first in eight years and is the latest in a career that has seen [...]

Back in Austin, during SXSW, we caught up with Norwegian singer/songwriter Thomas Dybdahl to chat for a bit about his forthcoming What's Left is Forever release. Check out this exclusive performance of his new track, "This Love Is Here To Stay" from the album. Thomas Dybdahl ( Official )

Savages have been a hot commodity for festival promotors this year, and with good reason. Though ten times more mature than any punk band that came from -well, anywhere ever- this all-grrl group wears their "Anarchy in the UK" lineage on their sleeves as they write decidedly garage-influenced 'indie' songs. I guess this is what comes after punk: mature songwriting, wildly contrasting dynamics, musicianship, and impeccable vocal control. So were you one that missed the gals at SXSW and Coachella? Don't sweat it. Recently our friends at The Creators Project hooked up [...]

A mother in Texas may be facing charges for trying to use WebMD to treat her son after her friend, Pete Jesse Rodriguez, shot the kid in the leg. You know, instead of taking him to the hospital. Now, why her friend shot the kid is kind of a mystery right now. Surveillance video from inside the home shows the 24-year-old Rodriguez (pictured above) "tracking" the 14 year old boys movements with the gun before eventually shooting him in the thigh. Anyway, the kid lies on [...]

Pardon the vertical video, but, if you haven't caught this footage of a student berating his teacher for going heavy on the uninspiring workbooks, it might give you a sense of how unimaginative the American classroom has become. Or always was. In Duncanville, Texas, a classmate took out his/her cell phone and recorded another student named Jeff Bliss as he verbally tore up his world history instructor in front of the classroom for her lazy attitude. "If you would just get up and teach us instead of handing 'em a packet yo, there's kids in here that don't [...]

We've been preaching the Magic Man gospel for a while now . If we haven't yet convinced how amazing these chaps from Rhode Island are, then perhaps their recent signing to Neon Gold / Columbia Records will. To celebrate the occasion the band has made a brand new track "Nova Scotia" available. The band is releasing the track as part of The Fox Den Demos , which also include previously released tracks "Texas" and "Paris." You can download them all [...]
Filed under: News AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Depeche Mode , the Cure , Muse -- this year's expanded Austin City Limits Festival will feature something of a European invasion with five of eight headliners at least partially coming from across the Atlantic Ocean. Also among the list of headlining performers announced Tuesday were Atoms for Peace , Phoenix , Lionel Richie and Wilco . The festival in Austin, Texas, [...]

There's alotta music that sounds nice, but few become all that memorable. To have a sound you know you'll be listening to for a good long while, as sparing as that while may be. I first caught wind of Max Frost with his 'White Lies' track that's topping the charts on the Hype Machine right now. And as memorable as 'White Lies' may be, what I didn't expect was to find a bunch of memorable more. Frost's SoundCloud is littered with funky hick jives that are all single worthy [...]
Coming to be in 1979 and known as the Flirts, this Houston, Texas-based band gained a rabid local following with their bang-up breed of rocking guitar pop. A deal with the Counterfeit label resulted in an EP, which hit the shelves in 1980. Packs of praise, coupled with pockets of airplay ensued, suggesting the band was on the road to [...]
BOSTON: The Houston legend, OG Ron C, will be spinning at #PVRPLE tonight along with Jack Dice, Yvng Amen, & DJ Knife! | Good Life Bar | 5.2.13 | $5 | Fuck the haters. Come get weird with me.
Missing longtime member Tom Pittman, but none of the knee-slapping fun, the Austin Lounge Lizards' fizzy Home and Deranged takes on such typically topical subjects as airport patdowns, big-ego music stars, fat-cat bankers and government conspiracy theories. It's like mixing the hippie politics of Country Joe McDonald with the absurdist humor of Frank Zappa with the front-porch picker's brilliance of [...]

Over the weekend, The Lower Class released the Deluxe Edition of their debut album, Wingfield . I featured the album last August, so I'll just plagiarize myself and include some of my previous review within this post. The trio of San Marcos, Texas didn't hold anything back on Wingfield , and have come up with a go to work for any hip-hop head. imaGenius' dusty vinyl, sample driven beats are the perfect backdrop for he, Kartune, and Pliny Science to lay down some imaginative and memorable verses. I really couldn't express my excitement enough for this [...]
