"America is a different nation, ...a better nation, we are different people, we are a better people. We are prepared to lay down our dark past and look to a bright future " Congressman John Lewis on Senator Barack Obama's victory. And then he walked out onto the stage in Grant park where over 160,000 people stood under the beautiful night sky to be together to celebrate: "I will never forget who this victory belongs to.... It belongs to you." Barack Obama [...]
This blog entry makes me proud and sad at the same time... PROUD because our very own MARK (aka SHIZ / aka INVISIBLE / aka STUCK IN A STUDIO) helped plan this show..Sometimes it pays to have friends stuck in a studio all day..It also makes me SAD because he booked some of our friends to be the second act ( FREE THE ROBOTS ) and he didn't even get a simple "thank you" Anyways, with that said...how about I get to the goods? Brazilian Girls have always been a favorite of mine [...]

[log on to DCtoBC.com to jam it] i'm 22 years of age today. so add 21 candles to that cake, and that's what i'll be blowing out. sike, i don't even like cake. i don't make a big deal out of birthdays, but i can say that i am blessed to have made it this far. no speeches or anything wild, just saying thanks to all my homies who support me, whether i know you for real, or you're my homie on twitter . ha. but really though, i appreciate all [...]

Wow in all this time, we see a good amount of people shuffle through here, it seems as though people enjoy the little blog we have going here... but the funny thing in all this time I have seen just a few comments from fellow bloggers. I am not one to bite the hand that feeds me, well I guess no ones really feeding me, so lets have some fun with this... Reasons for not letting us know how were doing and leaving a comment... A bit stuck on oneself and you really would do [...]

Thank You Terrible Two (04.2008, Thrill Jockey) Verdict = Hyperactive instrumental blitz Do you ever feel like your energy has been literally sucked out of you by some invisible force? Suddenly just out of energyand hittin' the hay at hours that defy your youthful age? Well, if so, I may have discovered culprit. Baltimore's Thank You may very well be the energy thieves that have so subtly extracted our energies in order to use them for the creation of their debut album, Terrible Two . Why am I making such a baseless allegation? Oh, it is only [...]

W ow! It was only a year ago we started this blog in our tiny over-priced, Vancooter apartment. We were bored, sitting in rainy downtown and decided to start the site. In that small amount of time we've had over 220,000 hits and had referrals from all over the world including notable sites like and NY Magazine & RollingStone.com . Peoples, labels, and artists alike started reaching out to us. [...]

So when Girl Talk fans who downloaded Feed the Animals for free make unauthorized mashup videos of Girl Talk mashups, what happens? Is that like when Diet Sundrop tried to sue Sundrop for taste infringement? Girl Talk - Don't Stop (Mashing) Is Trey Told 'Em team playing on Sunday supposed to be a hip hop version of Garfield minus Garfield , where Girl Talk = Garfield? Because that just sounds like a ripoff [...]

Addictive isn't the word for Thank You from the artistic hive that appears to be Baltimore. I bought their album Terrible Two yesterday and haven't really stopped listening since, despite receiving a bunch of other CDs in the post. Soundwise, HEALTH (who I enthused wildly about earlier in the year ) are probably their closest match - raw and frenetic, tribal post-punk noise with the emphasis on the percussion - but there's definitely echoes of the drones from Liars' Drums not Dead, the sheer transcendence of the Boredoms, the stop-start drumming [...]

Thank You are currently well-poised. SIgned to Thrill Jockey like Arbouretum, Pontiak and so many others, they recently released their J. Robbins-produced latest effort Terrible Two to warm reviews from all the typically staunch-faced outlets (I'm looking at you Pitchfork). Their special sauce? A particularly dis-equilibrated, frenzied mix of blistering punk guitars, electronic noise and melody, driving, demonic rhythms, primitive vocal utterances and a slew of other madness-cultivating sounds. It would seem manic is the new black this season. And everyone wants in. Thankfully, I bought into [...]
It has come to my attention that there aren't enough albums in the racks of the record shops of what we are now seemingly obliged to call "Broken Britain" which feature stickers which feature quotes from this here site. It can't be because this site doesn't have the sort of intelligent, affluent, opinion-forming reader that [...]

The amount of interesting and often experimental music coming out of Baltimore, Maryland these days seems to be increasing. More and more I feel like I have been combing through the wealth of music coming out of that scene and a small portion of it has landed on the blog at some point or another. If I weren't so lazy (and somewhat tired) I would go back and try and tally up the number. That's just not to be though. Despite that, for today's post I have an excellent new record from another Baltimore act, the [...]
In effort to raise awareness about upcoming releases as well as finding a place for the numerous submissions we get, this post continues our weekly purging of free and legal MP3's for your listening enjoyment. The number of tracks will fluctuate each week depending on the songs uncovered or sent. It's our hope that you'll find a new favorite or another release to keep your eyes on. (Mason Jennings) Good news, everyone: Your favorite pretentious internet writer has found himself some employment. The bad news? Uh, MFR hasn't exactly been a hotbed of breaking news. As if it ever was. HA! However, since I have some time off before I start my new job on Monday, I thought I would take the time to make a Catch-Up Playlist of all the tracks that have broken since I started a brief temp job last Thursday (as well as some others that have been sitting on my desktop for a long, long time). There's going to be [...]

It's a comforting thought, that in a world where every third artist name-drops Spector as their influence, limiting themselves to some sort of space-age echo-sonic thump sound, that an artist's self-description can be so simply put as "angular" and "jittery", and carry through on that promise like hungry wolves. We've been over this before , for entirely different reasons, but integrity still comes into the picture. That question still looms: how can technical virtuosity co-exist with that digital, sonic monster that is Echo? The answer is simple: unless you're Battles, recognizing it as a happy accident [...]
