Yesterday it poured all day, but off-Cape had snow so I'm not complaining. Miss Gracie and I did a dump run, and I didn't even bother to change out of my flannel pants and sweat shirt. The dump was pretty empty in the rain. The mouse count is now 14. Two got caught yesterday: one in the plastic trap and one in the have-a-heart. I have a story. The one in the plastic trap was making so much noise scratching and banging that it woke me up. I wanted to sleep in peace so I decided, despite the dark [...]

I am thankful for Sex. I am thankful for Tequila. I am thankful for Greg Ashley and Pang at the Night Light. 'Twas the day after turkey. Holidays are depressing. We binge on food and alcohol like savages. We push everyone out of our way to save $19.99 on the latest toxic gizmo. We chop down trees and stick them in our "living" room to rot. We make resolutions to not make the same mistakes again next year. But then you walk into The Night Light in Jack [...]

Until a week ago, being able to say you've seen Eric Prydz live in action on American soil was a bragging right for few, and a far reach for many. For New Yorkers, in the last 6 years alone, we’ve only had the chance to see him a meager three times — but let’s leave it at two-and-a-half to be fair. As you might know, Pacha’s last attempt to bring the progressive house legend back to New York didn’t go according to plan . An event filled with hype and anticipation left fans angered, but more so [...]
We have to give a round of applause to Verboten NYC for consistently putting on amazing events and bringing out undeniable DJ talent - this particular night fulfill all my expectations. As I walked in Kate Simko had already brought the crowd to their feet (metaphorically speaking). The audience overall was a little light but she [...]
Bryan James gives his cynical and depressing view of Thanksgiving and the Holidays. He even sneaks in a snippet of an original Bryan James joint. Check out his music at the Ghosts In The Attic Bandcamp page. The video then ends with him talking about his sausage dick that the ladies most definitely want. Like this? Years ago, while studying in Singapore, a half-dozen of us took off to Thailand for a stretch. During the last few days of the junket, several of us were verging on cashed, including me and my buddy Vince. To maximize our minimal funds and thus afford passage back to Singapore, we put into effect a plan to not eat before sunset each day. (any similarities to an observance of Ramadan would have ended hours earlier at the pool's bar) We were at that bar late one afternoon, having a pint as the sun [...]

It’s Thanksgiving time again (at least in America), meaning it’s time to stuff your face while remembering all those things you are appreciative of. And while you look back at all the things you’re thankful for, why not take a look back a little further at Thanksgivings of the past? You might be surprised how much things have stayed the same—and how much they’ve changed. [...]

Check out these photographs of Marilyn Monroe about to get her Thanksgiving on back in 1950. Clad in a Pilgrim outfit with a shotgun in tow, the turkey probably wasn't too happy to be posing with the blonde bombshell.

"My sister wants perfectly creamy mashed potatoes. She doesn't like any lumps." -J-Fur Bang, clatter...I nearly jumped out of my apron when that gauntlet hit the floor. I turned to make sure I had heard her right and the look on her face said it all. I swallowed loudly and turned back to my work. Nothing like a little pressure to really get a Thanksgiving dinner going. Perfect mashed potatoes are a common thing in my kitchen. But my idea of perfection is a nice textured potato with small lumps, potato skin and/or cabbage chunks. [...]

For the second year in a row J-Fur and I hosted Thanksgiving at our place. Her sister and parents were in attendance. Here are the highlights of some of the great tastes that we enjoyed: Appetizers Spiced Almonds Roasted Apple Butternut Squash and Caramelized Onion Pizza Salad Kale Salad with Butternut Squash, Cranberries and Pepitas Soup [...]

One of the few criticisms I've received about this blog that I'm too critical, too "negative." That was certainly true of the early days, when I issued a Hmph of the Week and never passed up the opportunity to make fun of KanYe West . But given the state of today's Top 40, I feel someone has to point out that the emperor has no clothes - or in the case of some of today's artists, that the performer has no clothes. But there are so many things to appreciate in music - things we rarely stop [...]

Arlo Guthrie - Alice’s Restaurant Thanksgiving tradition.

source As the sun sets earlier and the trees are shedding the last of their leaves, Americans gather today to celebrate what matters most: eating a dead bird while arguing about football cherishing one of the few times of the year where everyone can gather under one roof to spend time with each other. Whether you're spending the day at home alone or with family and friends, visiting in-laws, eating tofurky instead of turkey, or whatever else you may be doing, we've gathered a roundup of videos to put you into the [...]
I love Thanksgiving. I think it's better than Christmas. Christmas is a pain in the ass. Thanksgiving is about making food and eating food and hanging with your crew and I can get behind that 100%. And when I'm not getting blitzed on cranberry moonshine and laughing at all six or seven Shreks or however many there are, I like to gather my friends and family around the Macbook for these heartwarming, seasonal videos that truly capture the spirit of thanks giving and fellowship. I recommend watching them in the order presented. From the Bloggins family to yours, [...]
Joe writes: As a one-time regular prison visitor and Mary Gauthier fan, I was bound to like this. Be warned though - it will not get your Thanksgiving party started.
Thanksgiving The year has turned its circle, The seasons come and go. The harvest all is gathered in And chilly north winds blow. Orchards have shared their treasures, The fields, their yellow grain, So open wide the doorway - Thanksgiving comes again! ~~Old Rhyme.~~ Thanksgiving morning my mother woke up very early. She'd make the stuffing, always a sage stuffing, fill the turkey and get it into the oven. Her pan was in a huge oval shape and had a cover, but I don't remember my [...]

Happy Thanksgiving! Sam & Dave (1968) ZZ Top (1978) There are all sorts of sappy "thank you"-type songs that one could choose as a Thanksgiving song offering, but frankly, those songs just aren't suited for Reselect. Instead, I think something a bit grittier and groovier would do quite nicely, and one of the songs that best fits that bill is "I Thank You," a song recorded by Sam & Dave, written for them by Isaac Hayes and David Porter [...]
We couldn’t let Thanksgiving pass around these parts without our annual fluffage of the greatest rock movie of all-time - The Last Waltz . Roughly 36 years ago, about 5,000 lucky fans were treated to a full Thanksgiving dinner, followed by a star-studded “farewell concert” from The Band at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco, the site of their very first public performance. With each viewing I seem to come away with a new favorite performance from the film, and after last night’s annual viewing, which was particularly poignant since we lost the great Levon Helm earlier this [...]
