Folk music is somewhat of an enigma to me. Sometimes I love it. I'm a big Dylan fan, and I'm enamored by Joan Baez. Sometimes I get sick of it. I don't know. There's a lot being played on the local radio station and it really drives me nuts when I just want to hear a good rock song. Leave it to the ageless David Bowie to look stunning in a mug shot. The Smoking Gun dug up a picture of Ziggy taken in March 1976 after a show in Rochester, New York. The crime? Felony possession of herbal jazz (right, pot). Via The Smoking Gun : Bowie, 29 at the time, was nabbed along with Iggy Pop and two other codefendants at a Rochester hotel following a Saturday concert. So Radiohead hosted a party yesterday (hosted, get it?). Everybody was invited, but not everybody could get in -- or get online, as it were. But here's some good news for those who found the party crashed due to tech/bandwith issues, here's a replay. Here's Part One: Entanglement, featuring a reworking of "Harrowdown Hill." Unfortunately, I didn't make it out Dr. Dog last night. I'd love to hear how it was. The main reason I didn't get out, can be seen in the photo above. I am in love with the Thao Nguyen album Like the Linen . I listen to it every day, and often find myself pressing play again. Her voice is powerful and touching. Daytrotter's next set, which goes up 7 August, is Thao Nguyen. I've heard a song or two of hers, but Daytrotter's sets are nice because they give you an EP's worth of material . . . enough to get a feel for a musician. Also, it seems Thao is touring with Laura Veirs and the Tortured Trombonist and Drummer in Europe this summer. Only in Europe, dammit!
