The duo of That Fucking Tank are sometimes described as a mathrock band. This proves one thing conclusively, namely that many people have as little understanding of maths as they do of music. Forgive me if I'm woefully fucking ignorant, but I thought the whole point of mathrock was extravagant time signatures. Nothing like that on Mr. Blood : it goes from basic 2/4 to 6/8 to 1/4, which is at least novel, I suppose, if not exactly tricky. Not that it needs to be tricky, you understand. That Fucking Tank are all about [...]
Do you remember that video for 'Lotus Flower' that Radiohead put out to promote their recent King of Limbs album? Y'now, the one where Thom Yorke dances like a lunatic? Well, Leeds-based noiseniks Castrovalva have gone and done something similar, only with growling angry noise instead of limp-glitch indie, and a mad-limbed ginger fellow instead of [...]
The story of Osho—master, mystic, madman… "Trying to define Osho is like trying to imprison a rainbow or catch a cloud that's floating through your room. Like sand, he slips through your fingers: like a sparkling drops of dew, his magic vanishes with the rising sun of definition. Samuel Johnson, in his Preface to Shakespeare, [...]

More Ides of Toad action this week, as Kid Canaveral, Thee Single Spy and Monster Island take to the stage at Henry's. I hadn't been to Henry's for so long before The Leg, Louis Barabbas and Zed Penguin show, and I'd rather forgotten that it is actually a cracking little grubby indie club. One of those places whose drawbacks actually seem to add to its charm, so please come down this weekend, and come down early to make sure you catch Monster Island. And there may be some excellent gigs happening in Edinburgh this week, but there are [...]

It's getting to that kind of time when all sorts of festivals are starting to release their lineups and a few have got me pretty excited. First up is The Great Escape on the south coast. It's a Camden Crawl style festival that sprawls all over Brighton from the 12th-14th of May and it's being headlined by DJ Shadow, Arcade Fire and Sufjan Stevens. Yup. Big names. But they've also got Warpaint, Villagers, Brasstronaut, SBTRKT and PVT playing, among others. Tickets start at £45 for the earlybirds, so if this is whetting your appetite then get on it now. [...]

Here are the videos that have caught my attention this week ... That Fucking Tank Mr Blood That Fucking Tank: 'Mr Blood' from JakoMat on Vimeo . Turin Brakes Sea Change Banjo Or FreakOut 105 [...]

"Oh no!" we hear you cry. "Not another guitar-drums duo!" Don't worry, you aren't in for any ersatz-White Stripes/Black Keys blues-rock with British outfit That Fucking Tank. A key difference here is the fact that Andy Abbott plays a uniquely tuned baritone guitar fed through guitar and bass amps simultaneously, which allows him to fulfill the functions of both bass and lead — hey, it's easier than learning the Chapman Stick! And the duo drives down an entirely different avenue than the aforementioned garagey types. Tankology — TFT's second album — suggests a collision of Lightning Bolt and [...]

That Fucking Tank are back with their second album Tanknology , which is set to be released on July 6th, however is currently available online through Gringo Records. Some may remember the band and their baritone math styling that graced their last record The Day of Death by Bono Adrenalin Shock back in '06. Not a whole lot has changed here for the band on their latest offering, although there is a notable running influence of classic/progressive rock that gives the record a bit [...]
