BOO! Local Music Friday! Tell me...what is this Local Music Fridays? Oh my God, guys, tomorrow is Halloween!!! OOOOH, SPOOKY! Last night, A. and I went to a Haunted House . It wasn't exactly that scary, but it was still a good time. Then, I bought some candy for tomorrow night's 50/50 show, which will feature David Martin of Michigan band That's Him! That's The Guy! [...]
Never mind the buzzkill. In spite of political scandals, widespread unemployment, and a downward spiral of economic and architectural decay, southern Michigan's music scene has never been more vibrant. Leave it to Flint native Michael Moore to document the downturn; Ann Arbor label Quite Scientific Records is celebrating the upside: the seemingly limitless creative potential of an area of the U.S. with a glorious musical history and, perhaps, an even brighter musical future. In this EXCLUSIVE interview, QuiSci co-founder Brian Peters gives us the skinny on what makes the greater Detroit area such fertile [...]

Sometimes, a little DIY ethic can go a long way. In this case, it went as far to bring over 20 folk music acts from across the USA for a two day, all night long festival of music, bonfires, camping, and debauchery. Conceptualized by Philadelphia's own Hezekiah Jones ( Raphael Cutrufello ) , and organized with the help of many in the Philadelphia music community, Miles & Maggie Fest was an astounding success. Considering the true DIY ethic involved in putting it all together, the attendance and talent line up rivaled that of some more well known and [...]
![[NEW MUSIC] That's Him! That's The Guy! - An Army Life](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1729516_lg.jpg)
Well I finally know who "that guy" is. He's a brilliant duo from Michigan [now in NYC] comprised of David Martin and Joseph Scott. That's Him! That's The Guy! just released their debut album An Army Life which is introduced to us with quiet eerie feedback. The stormy winds are soon covered with a sweet banjo melody. Punctuated with soft violins, familiar vocals and the occasional xylophones, An Army Life tells tales of divorce through the eyes of a military brat. This is an album that should be listened to with headphones so that the soft honey sounds [...]

im sommer 2007 hatten wir über sie berichtet , folk absolut passend in die erwärmende jahreszeit. auf die damalige "help me i'm on fire" ep folgt nun der erste ausgewachsene musikalische erguss. die new yorker joe scott (bass, drum loops, keyboards, accordion, glockenspiel, melodica, guitars, snare drum, vocals etc.) und david martin (guitars, banjo, vocals, keyboards, melodica, harmonica, drum loops, etc.) alias that's him! that's the guy! gehen es diesmal etwas ernsthafter an. lief ihre ehemalige bandbeschreibung immer wieder darauf hinaus, dass sie an den unsinn verkauft wurde, [...]

I dont know much about Thats Him! Thats The Guy!, their from Michigan and the band is made up of David Martin and Joseph Scott, thats really as far as my knowledge goes. If The Weakerthans and Snow Patrol had a musical child, it would be this band. The song "Red Folder" is one of those [...]

She ( Zooey Deschanel ) & Him ( Matt Ward ) nous embarquent pour un voyage dans le temps, un passage en revue en seulement 36' de la musique américaine. Sur Volume One (qui annonce donc déjà une suite?), l'actrice et le musicien passent avec un talent certain d'une pop-song au piano et cordes ( Sentimental Heart ) à un tube folk/rock ( Why Do You Let Me Stay Here? surtout, Black Hole aussi), d'une ballade amoureuse sur fond de soleil couchant ( Change Is Hard ) à une chanson [...]

Hi everyone, I've been gone a couple weeks at the end of the year tournaments. I'm happy to say that Dartmouth managed the semifinals at the CEDA National tournament and the finals of the National Debate Tournament. That means that I'm now free to spend the next month doing nothing except reading for fun, playing frisbee and soccer, cooking vegan food, and writing about music. So the pace will pick up again here. I want to get started by talking about That's Him That's The Guy . I posted about their excellent EP [...]

Michigan An Army Life , the new album from That's Him! That's The Guy!, is what you wish your college roommates sounded like when they got drunk and started playing guitar. Clear, unpolished vocals harmonize over little more than plucked guitar and banjo, calling to mind an earthier Oh No! Oh My! or Kings of Convenience. "Half" is like the best spontaneous bonfire jam you've ever heard, while "Red Folder" reaches higher, with lyrics detailing the mundane elements of some Midwest funeral while a lonely violin underscores the song's ironic detachment. Rustic strummers that manage to [...]
Thats Him! That's The Guy Genre: Acoustic / Indie / Folk Rock From: Michigan United States Countryish folk music and banjos are firmly esconced on the Devil's lists of things to avoid unless absolutely necessary. Therefore I understandably approached Michigan based folk-duo That's Him That's the Guy, formed by Canada's (the band not the country) Joseph Scott and David Martin, with something bordering on [...]

These Days - That's Him! That's the Guy I have kind of a thing for music with a clearly defined sense of place, particularly when it's a place I know well. That's part of the reason I enjoy That's Him That's the Guy , a Michigan based folk-duo, who make music which reflects their geographical orientation. Appropriately enough, on first listen there is more than enough twinkly bells and delicately plucked strings to call to mind a Michigan-era Sufjan, which may or may not be your thing. But if that doesn't sound appealing, don't [...]

Ferndale, MI If you read the bio on That's Him! That's The Guy! you'll find that David's a little bit country and Joe's a little bit rock 'n roll. Together these two Michiganians have created one sweet little EP. Instruments on it include the harmonica, banjo, accordion, and my favorite, the glockenspiel. [...]
Dallas 21, Indianapolis 14 I don't know what is the bigger story, the Colts losing or McNabb tearing his ACL, but since I'm a homer, I'll start with the Colts. Five turnovers in the first quarter alone. This game started sloppy and got ugly. Tony Romo, when it mattered, was simply the better quarterback. Heck, he's been the best QB in the league since he was named the starter. How did this

In addition to having one of the catchier band names that I've come across, That's Him! That's the Guy! have released a six song album that sounds like it has blossomed from a cold and desolate landscape. The lyrics conjure up images of long winter nights in a small town and mirrors feelings of melancholy and isolation. These sombre lyrics are contrastly paired with slightly more optimistic music, and it is this combination that makes the songs relatable yet inviting. They are a folk duo from [...]
This is the first in a sporadic series on the buzz from other similar blogs in a spirit of fraternal love. First blog up is... I'm going to remove links to a few blogs that are no longer being updated. My Current Favorites list needs to be updated! Spanish band Metropol is sweeping through bloggerland! Chris has already mentioned this in a post earlier today . Molotov over at A Plague Of Angels has a fine post on Moi Caprice . It's great [...]

Our second Michigan band is the awesomely titled That's Him! That's The Guy! may sound like some large indie twee pop collective, but instead, it's just two guys with four first names. Joseph Scott and David Martin are "a sort of folk duo", a vague yet accurate description of what they do. They make pretty stripped down, personal songs, but they still know how to bust out the instruments when they are called for. Over their six song EP, 'Help Me, I'm On Fire', they manage to make use of keyboards, a banjo, a glockenspiel (what's [...]
