The biblical mountain of Zion lay close to the ancient city of Jerusalem, and somehow slowly but surely became a symbol for the 'world to come'. The rasta faith pictures it as the site of a new Jerusalem in the African country of Ethiopia, a future spot of milk and honey for righteous dreads. As an illustration, here's a sizzling roots reggae and dub ten pack about the desire to arrive there as soon as possible. Get ready to ride that lion... [...]

The Abyssinians - Satta Massagana ( buy) Hope you're not tired of reggae and Clash references because I have this one for you. This song wasn't covered by Strummer and his buddies, but is quoted in "Jimmy Jazz". So "Satta Massagana for Jimmy Dread !". But what does it mean ? I heard it's a rasta hymn of praise to Jah and the words are of Ethiopian origin. So it looks like the Clash finally praised God in one of their songs !

Now if you're a reggae head - this is pretty standard stuff, and easily one of the must have 73 staples in the collectsh of any self-respecting roots reggae head. The song is called: Santa Massagana and the year is 1976. [See post to listen to audio] DOWNLOAD: The Abyssinians - Santa Massaganna Three vocalists, singing in harmony. Heavy into the Rastafarian movement, the Abyssinians deliver [...]

It is hot in Portugal, and the days on the beach and the nights on the terrace without doing anything, just listening to a good sound, are arriving. And what is the music we hear more often in the summer? Reggae!! Well, here is a small tribute playlist to summer and Reggae bands. I like my Jamaican soul tracks smothered in spooky. The background singers have to moan like they're holding a candlelight seance. Lead vocalists should sound distracted, seized in the grip of mad flu. And I need a rhythm section that drags in unholy ways - like an evil code slurred backwards in a hidden message. Here are a few cuts that are sufficiently soulful creepy. The Heptones - "Our
