It was clear things would be ending better than they began when I showed up in Williamsburg for the last day of Northside Festival. Everyone seemed to be in good spirits thanks to a false weather forecast - we showed up on Sunday expecting more rain and got surprised with a pretty nice day. Not that it mattered once you got to the dark, dingy Cameo Gallery for a showcase culminating with Light Asylum 's stunning performance. If you haven't been to the Cameo Gallery it deserves a little bit of explanation. Walking in makes you feel like a [...]

There have been quite a few quality adds to the Netflix Instant Streaming Database in June 2013, other than what I mentioned here. Take a look and happy watching! I was sad to see South Park go, and I'm fairly bitter about it. I always used it as a go-to background noise show. High reply-ability [...] Like this? From November 2011 to March 2013 I did the adventure of a lifetime. I toured America in an old RV and played my music in every little town I could find. Many of you followed my tour through Facebook and my website and I met and became friends with so many of you along the way. I've now decided to collect all my personal memories, pictures, stories and concert recordings from the tour in a coffee table book and a live album so that I can share all the fun I had with you. [...]

We're all huge supporters of Adventures over at Alter The Press HQ and today, we couldn't be more pleased to be premiering the title-track from the indie-rock quintet's new EP, Clear My Head With You. Last year, it was a unanimous decision to vote the band's self-titled release as the best EP of 2012 and after one listen of CMHWY , it looks like we already have an early contender for 2013. If you need some more convincing, listen to the first single "Promise" [...]

Little hints of influences continuously creep in and out of Men's Adventures brilliant Bad Feelings single , guiding and shaping the track along it's three-and-a-half minutes. The laid-back breeze of surf rock here, a touch of psychedelia there and a cinematic sheen to the whole thing that drives the track along. The song is taken from the bands forthcoming debut EP Solitary Trip (June 24th/Dirty Bingo Records) and we liked it so much we wanted to know more. The bands core members, Alfie and Jimmy, took the time to tell us some more... [...]

Baltimore-based Adventure put together a Spotify playlist featuring Shirley Collins, DAF, Ray Lynch, Telex, Alan Vega (of Suicide), Willie Nelson, Shuggie Otis and... get this... Enya. As Adventure told Death and Taxes, ""A mix that I listen to on my way to and from work, or wherever I happened to be going. March through April 2013." Give it a listen. Adventure's new album "Weird Work" is out now on Carpark .

John Mortara is a young and brilliant poet currently based out of Wilmington, North Carolina. The poet with a well-known penchant for bagels and Dungeons and Dragons style adventure games recently made homage to the latter obsession. Over the course of eight days in mid-April, Mortara detailed an adventure narrative, mixing Choose-Your-Own-Adventure type directives and descriptions with too-true Millenial cliches, 140 characters at a time via his Twitter account. Not only were the tweets inherently hilarious, particularly for fans of the adventure genre who are familiar with the pitfalls of dungeon exploration, necromancing, and witchy temptations, but they [...]

It has been quite a long time since I deeply listened to some Rock that really impressed me, let alone local. A close friend of mine had told me that old High School buddies from New West had released some material under the name " Hillfolk " so once I got home I found one of them on Facebook and there it was. All of the members in this band are talented musicians so I was not surprised to find myself replaying the 3 tracks they've put out so far. The wide range of influences that they have completely shows [...]

Adventure's particular brand of electronic pop is steeped in the work of chiptune acts and electronic pop acts alike. Weird Work is an earned title, many of the songs tilt and lilt frenetically and jubilantly. This is an album built around an impressive array of tones - tones that you may have heard before, and may even have access to on your computer, but tones that have been curated into an exceptional, albeit a little unmemorable, package. 'Laser Blast' lives up to its name by being both artificial and assaulting in a cartoony way that makes the [...]

It's incredibly rare that ATH posts much in the vein of this new song "Promise" by Pittsburgh based group Adventures . I personally have nothing agains the post-punk genre, it just seems like we get a whole lot of garbage sent our way with that sonic tag. This song is one I found myself immediately drawn to and have played on repeat at least 3-5 times while creating this post. I hear this sort of mash up between more emo Rainer Maria and maybe super old school Taking Back Sunday. Then things slow down from time to time and [...]

The top mp3s have gone through many incarnations since the beginning of Consequence of Sound in 2007. What used to be an exhaustive roundup of all the singles, remixes, covers, and undiscovered gems emailed to us any given week evolved into a compilation whittled down to our 10 favorite new songs. For 2013, we’re again changing up the format with the hope of giving our selections some added weight. We’re still posting about our 10 favorite songs, but they’ll be ordered in quality from 10-1. Who takes home #1 this week? You’ll have to click ‘Next’ to find [...]

by Fred Pessaro // BBG If I told you that a band featured 3/4 of Code Orange Kids , you might think you have an idea what they sound like. Yet Pittsburgh's Adventures use only some of the influences found in that project, adding in splashes of indie riffs on their latest EP Clear My Head With You . Due on June 18, the result is something akin to Superchunk or post-hardcore as you can tell by the first track to sneak [...]
