For this label spotlight, we tracked down our UK-based friends at Fire Records, home of bands such as Pulp, Guided by Voices, ESG, Giant Sand, The Adverts, Teenage Fanclub, and more. Label Manager James Nicholls helped us shed some light - pun totally intended - on the label and shared some tips ...
The MADONNA got a new fragrance on the retail horizon, TRUTH OR DARE , and we've got some behind the scenes footage of the queen-she-popper shooting an advert.

The JLOZ is glowing. And releasing her fragrance #18, entitled GLOWING . Glowing, is a step beyond Glow. Glowing is such a clean fragrance, that's what I've always been about. I like soapy, clean smells. This is a very woodsy scent. So it's not exactly what I created 10 years ago – it's the evolution of that. At the essence, it's still natural, earthy, clean and real, but a little different side of that. It's the woodsy side of it, which I think is kind of New York-y, darker and sexier. [...]
From acting to she-popping, to promoting a Fiat car, not much the J-LOZ can't and won't do for the right dosh. Includes learning another language and the samba to promote Brahma Beer.
it's been a long while since i've cared for the ALESHA DIXON . and her latest cameo (plus musical contribution) in the Weight Watchers advert has upgraded the former-she-popper to a size 36 bold upper case level of CRINGE. wots more insulting than this waste of space of an advert ? the ALESHA considering herself a 'real woman' who has previously tackled weight issues. wotyougot
It's advisable to take the usual PR puff that accompanies the release of any album with an industrial sized pinch of salt, unless it's calling The Adverts debut album 'one of the greatest punk albums of all time'. For once the PR people are, if anything, guilty of under-estimating how good this album is. I know that to many of you reading this it's little more than a relic from an earlier age and I'm little more than the musical equivalent of Tony Robinson and his time team excavating long buried treasures. I understand how [...]
Protest movements often result in music that is repetitive and uninspiring, if only for the small number of widely identifiable protest songs. You shouldn't be forced to listen to "The Times They Are a-Changin'" twenty times per day. Levine, who worked at Zuccotti Park's info desk, compiles a dozen songs that better fit this movement, and many others as well

The Adverts From: The Past, United Kingdom It's advisable to take the usual PR puff that accompanies the release of any album with an industrial sized pinch of salt, unless it's calling The Adverts debut album 'one of the greatest punk albums of all time'. In the stream of excellent hard-hitting power-pop albums that were released in the aftermath of the punk explosion, there were bound to be a couple ones forgotten, or associated bands being relegated to one-hit wonder status. The Vapors, famous to anime fans and frequent listeners of the Dr. Demento show for their deliciously warped hit
Life for a touring musician is hard. If you're not a mega rich rockstar, then when you're not on the road, you need to get a job. The record industry being as it is, there's no way extreme metal musicians can rely on their record sales to tide them over. At the very least, you [...]
Several weeks ago, I was proud to have Gaye Black/Advert as a guest on the Peer Pressure segment of Diane's Kamikaze Fun Machine . Check the archive for the show here; she was a great guest, played strictly black metal, and we talked about her life post-Adverts - a lot of which consists of being an exhibiting collage/construction artist, and some photos of her work are displayed on the playlist. Those of you in the London region are lucky; she's curating a show that opens November 25th at the Signal Gallery that features art from [...]
No airbrushing of wrinkles or hairlines here. This is pure ad agency pisstaking. French Connection started it. Loutallica ruined it. We're finishing it.

As spotted in NYC. Love the King Kong riff. And, as the advertisement makes clear, Beavis and Butt-Head returns to television on Oct. 27 at 10 p.m. [via reddit ]
We're not normally ones to post adverts here on Joystuck, however this American one for Walmart's exclusive pre-order bonus (you get Batman: Arkham Asylum GOTY edition free) is so good it deserves to be seen. Essentially it's the "I'm Spartacus" scene recreated by one man in a Batman costume and another sitting at home playing the game. As a result it's one of the most gloriously funny yet awkward adverts we've seen this year.
Joe writes: Into Dust by Mazzy Star has been used on another TV advert, this time for the Microsoft game Gears of War 3. At the time of writing it is no. 39 on iTunes so could be their biggest hit in the UK. But their best song is Fade Into You which I wrote about here .
As some of you may or may not know, I've been having a lot of fun with a new feature on the Fun Machine; a segment called "Peer Pressure." I invite people involved in music to guest DJ for part of the program and to chat in between songs, just the way you would at your friends house when you bought a bunch of new records. Some of the guests that were on in the past were: Aesop Dekker (Worm Ouroboros, Agalloch, Ludicra) , Chuck Dukowski (Black Flag, SWA, CD6) , Gaye Black/Advert (Adverts) , Digby [...]

"Burberry Body is the next chapter in our history, and a launch we are all so excited about. It's the Burberry world translated into a scent, embodying every facet of the brand including our music, collections, scent, platforms and communities. We wanted to create something very British, feminine, timeless, distinctive and effortlessly sensual, with the attitude and energy of our iconic trench coat at the heart of it." - Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer Burberry Body , the brand's most sensual fragrance for women to date, has launched, in over 150 [...]
....or at least recognises the value of it for selling glucose-charged fizzy pop to people. The James Cleaver Quintet are the stars (can you be "stars" in an advert?) of the latest TV spot from Lucozade. Unfortunately, rather than having The JCQ play one of the tracks off their scorching debut mini-album/EP thing, Ten Stages Of A [...]
Lots of big American stars go off to Japan to make adverts they'd never appear in back in the US, safe in the knowledge that they'll not be seen in their home country. In the film Lost In Translation , Bill Murray plays an American actor in Tokyo to make an advert for Suntory whisky. How much better would that film have been if it had been about James Brown making these adverts?* *It would probably not have been very good, but you will now spend the [...]
