In the alternate universe that holds underground rock 'n' roll music in its loving embrace, there is the equivalent of a Great American Songbook. And in that songbook there are many, many tracks written by Greg Dulli . The former Afghan Whigs fronter, now helming Twilight Singers but performing largely acoustic last night with two sidemen, enthralled the fortunate packed into a sold-out, 235-capacity movie theater, sharing a career-spanning set that was only upstaged by the man's rapier wit. Dulli recounted having seen the film "Kiss Of The Spiderwoman" at the same theater on a [...]

i am not sure whats going on with this compilation of live tracks, but its called out of seattle . i am guessing its a fan made comp, which if it is thanks to you. i only say that cause out of the 6 bands highlighted, 2 of em really have nothing to do with seattle. sure the afghan whigs were signed to sub pop at one point and soul asylum was kinda lumped in with all the seattle bands back then. so, it makes some kind of sense, i suppose. anyway, i dont have dates or anything, but [...]

Photography by m0kaz ... Some albums make a bigger impression than others. It's those albums that 'Peanut's Playground: Forgotten Classics' is dedicated to. First up in the series is: Gentlemen by The Afghan Whigs (1993) Some albums are permanent residents of your iTunes, and for me this is one of them. From the first time I shoved this album down my cd-players' front opening and heard the opening quartet of songs on Gentlemen, [...]

Let me introduce myself as a new contributor around here. I'll do my best not to be the new neighbor who moves in and leaves the house in disrepair just long enough to go into foreclosure, bringing down everyone's property values. I promise I'll mow the lawn every week. Just keep those damn kids off it in the meantime or there will be some serious fist shaking going on. You've been warned. This new beginning has got me thinking about other great beginnings. In particular, great album openers. So I've put together a little list of what I consider [...]
This tour is going to do really well, right? I've got to believe that the Greg Dulli maniacs are already making their travel plans to attend one of these shows - heck, if we can score Cleveland tickets, we'll be going. While it's called "An Evening with Greg Dulli" , the Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers/The Gutter Twins singer will be accompanied by Twilight Singers guitarist Dave Rosser and multi-instrumentalist Rick Nelson (Polyphonic Spree) and will play a set of songs spanning his entire career including debuting new material from the Twilight Singers' album scheduled for release [...]
Afghan Whigs frontman turned Twilight Singers frontman turned solo artist Greg Dulli has seen and done a lot in his two decade-plus career. Well, everything that is aside from a solo tour. That will change, however, come this October as Dulli has mapped out plans for a five country, 29 date world tour. Beginning in New Orleans on October 8th, the trek will have the rock legend visits states across the US midwest and east coast before hopping across the Atlantic and arriving in Ireland in late October. From there, Dulli will play multiple dates in [...]

MP3: Afghan Whigs - Gentlemen MP3: Afghan Whigs - When We Two Parted MP3: Afghan Whigs - Fountain and Fairfax First off: GENIUS album cover. The conception of such an idea is worthy of praise alone, but the fact that the photographer got these children to capture that moment so perfectly is nothing sort of incredible. I could seriously make this post about the cover alone, but the music contained inside demands to be written about. [...]

honestly, i have no idea why i even started this? i was sitting on my couch the other evening, and got to thinking bout my favorite records. next thing i know, im downloading album covers, uploading album covers, gathering songs and uploading said songs. again, i have no idea why other than the thought. shit, i have lots of thoughts but rarely do i follow through with any of em. as i said in a previous post, this list is monumentally flawed. flawed for many reasons, all of which should be pretty obvious. with any list like [...]

i've been feeling a bit nostalgic as of late, and for really no reason that i can think of. still, its been going on, and i've been rediscovering stuff that at one held a significant place in my heart/mind/whatever at one time. its not to say that they still dont, but time changes everything as we all understand. my favorite song, for many a year, was the afghan whigs version of the elvis presley's "true love travels on a gravel road." it was released via sub pop on their covers ep, uptown avondale , which is so worth tracking [...]

Before I get to the art, I have to comment on today's releases. The fact that three of my top 20 current bands, Broken Social Scene, New Pornographers, and The Hold Steady all have a new album out today is just amazing to me (and The National in one week!). This has to be one of the best album release days ever right? Anyway, the new Hold Steady album got me thinking of the numerous hands-themed album covers, so it's a perfect opportunity to add another edition to the ongoing album art lover features. This is a mix of 10 albums featuring hands. [...]

I hate mixtapes! This might sound like a strange introduction to an article about a mixtape, but I just do. I hate them. They are an absolute pain in the ass to make! Selecting the songs. Tagging the songs. Uploading the songs. It's a lot of work and somehow the end results never seem to be as I imagined it. Some people just have it in them to make good mixtapes. People like Tsuru for instance. Of course he's had a lot of practice, since he's posted approximately 6,234 of them here on TSURURADIO over [...]
In the past few years much ink has been spilt discussing “mashups,” the process of remixing two or more songs together. The weirder the combination, the more impressive the feat. DJs like Girl Talk lead the charge, but due to differing keys and tempos the pairings sometimes sound forced. Mashup covers, on the other hand, have more freedom. Here are ten odd couples and unchained medleys that,
>>> D'Angelo - Shit, Damn, Motherfucker "I'll tell you what's on my mind I'm bout to go get my nine" >>> The Afghan Whigs - Honky's Ladder "Got u where I want u Motherfucker I got 5ive up on your...
