It's probably no coincidence that The Airborne Toxic Event sounds a little similar to Franz Ferdinand, since the former is signed to the label created by the manager of the latter. But The Airborne... **Click on the link to read the full post, download mp3s, and comment.**

As I've said before, 99% of the stuff that record promoters send to music bloggers is utter crap. However, once in a while some band catches my ear and I fall in love. One of those bands arrived a week or so ago by the name of The Airborne Toxic Event . The fact that they've only released a single EP so far with a sum total of about ten minutes of recorded music may raise the question of the legitimacy of posting about them. However, if you listen to the tracks below, you'll [...]
I don't know what got into promoters across the globe this week but they all seem to have simultaneously bombarded my inbox with roughly one zillion emails. Normally, I would commence in a delete spree since most of the promotional emails I get don't actually contain any music that I can share, but everything being sent this week has been full of mp3s. Let the downloading of the overly necessary EP begin! Please visit the site for more commentary and downloadable songs.
Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even. - Muhammad Ali Life isn't meant to be easy. It's hard to take being on the top - or on the bottom. I guess I'm something of a fatalist. You have to have a sense of history, I think, to survive some of these things... Life is one crisis after another. - Richard [...]
I picked up The Airborne Toxic Event self-titled/released EP ( myspace ) and have been wearing the needle out with it(editor: need cliche for playing the shit out of digital music). The EP is a 3 song collection of radio-ready dancey poppy upbeatednesss that's well worth a listen. The songs might not be timeless or innovative but they will keep your toe tapping and help bring you out of that winter funke . If your a fan of Franz or throwing after hours with dancing for skinny white kids, this record is definitely for you. References to Morrissey-style [...]

El-P Performs at the Troubadour Tonight Tonight's Picks: El-P @ Troubadour ($18) – I just picked up that new El-P record. What I like about it is that it's literate, but still hits hard. Jeff Weiss posted a much lengthier review today. The Airborne Toxic Event / The Movies / The Monolators [...]

As many LA Bloggers have told you, the Airborne Toxic Event has the Monday residency in March at the Echo. Coming off of the strength of Rolling Stone's top MySpace Bands , this band has been on a tear. They have had a great review at Kevin Bronson's Buzz Bands Blog as well as love from the usual hipster crew of tastemakers. And rightfully so, these guys (and gal) are great. Their three song EP is way too short and the complaint that one can have is [...]

Great Northern and Pity Party At The Viper Room TONIGHT [MP3] Great Northern - Home [MP3] The Pity Party - The War Between Eight And Four I am a huge fan of both Great Northern and The Pity Party . Seeing them on a bill together makes venturing out into the vast unknown of the 90069 a little less scary. March Residencies: Eastside [...]

Happy President's Day, whatever that means! Yay America. Okay it is Washington's B-day, he's like super famous. Go $1 dollar bill! Educate yourself sucka. Some interesting things to note, The man who co-invented the TV remote, Robert Adler, died at age 93 from heart failure. Let's see, he help create the remote, won awards, contributed to culture and technology, I would say the failure in heart is non-existent. And!!! He died in Boise, Idaho. What a rad guy! As I was browsing through the Idaho Statesman website, I found an awesome quick 7 [...]

here's another something great to come out of cali lately, the airborne toxic event . ok, i know the name isn't that appealing, but after stumbling across these guys (and girl) late one night on the space, i've been ridiculously hooked. dubbing their own sound as that ever-so-trendy ghettotech, i think garage-pop is a much better description. actually, the strokes meets franz ferdinand is an even more accurate one. unfortunately, there isn't too much info floating around on the band and their site doesn't offer up [...]

Airborne Toxic Event was one of the Rolling Stone top 25 MySpace bands . They recently shot us a 3-song EP. In my brief blurb about them before, I referenced The Killers. Curiously enough this 3-song EP has the same number of good songs as The Killer's latest effort. Three. The EP is a strong initial effort from this LA based band. While there is a consistent sound throughout, each song is unique in its own way and the lead singer's delivery fits perfectly with the accompanying music. If you are a fan of Interpol and/or [...]

THE AIRBORNE TOXIC EVENT [MP3] The Airborne Toxic Event - Does This Mean You're Moving On? It's drizzly and rainy in Los Angeles today. Maybe that's why my head feels like its in a vice grip. I was feeling six shades of "poopy" yesterday and despite taking it easy and going to bed extra early I woke up feeling just as sick. I stumbled into the living room and my roommate immediately asked if I was feeling all right. The 8 yr [...]

I'm back from the great state of UTAH. An eventful trip to say the least, but it was fun. I drove through the night from Las Vegas so I could make it back to work on time. I feel like a humming bird, my eyes are still buggy and hardly working, and my head is swimming from way too much confusion - but in all other respects I'm doing just dandy. Fatigue is good in such situations. It allows you to recover and move on - which most people don't seem to grasp fully in their lifespan. [...]

The Airborne Toxic Event are a brand new discovery for me, they sent along a song that Im really enjoying. The band is named after a chapter in the book "White Noise" by Don Delillo in which that large chemical cloud happens over the city. This tune, "Wishing Well" is a toe tapping poppy piece of music that could well along side a catchy 80s tune you may not be able to stop humming. Airborne Toxic wear the UK influences on their sleeve despite being native to California. Wishing Well was [...]
The Airborne Toxic Event's debut at the Echo was a huge surprise to us. First of all, we shouldn't have even been there at all, but at the last minute the crew didn't feel like driving down to the Detroit for Asobi Seksku and Darker My Love. And then we remembered a nice little piece of unsolicited email that TATE threw in our inbox and headed on over for their big show. And even though we know
During my first listen to Airborne Toxic Event, I hear the voice. The low, beautiful voice reminds me of Alex Kapranos, and I love it. Then the drums beckon my feet to move. The slower songs make me think more 80's, perhaps Cure or The Smiths. Their name is from a book by Don Delillo called White Noise, and they come from the mighty Mexifornia (you'll only get that if you watch SNL). They'll
