Filed under: News , New Music , New Releases Ernest Jenning Record Co The Albertans began as a seven-piece, though they now function as a quartet. This spring they will be releasing The Hunter EP , a 7-inch vinyl of three songs written in the retreats of Vancouver's Bowen Island. Today, Spinner is premiering the title track, a six-minute exercise centered around a keyboard pulse, thinly whispered vocals and a kick-drum [...]
It's been a while since I've checked in on what Vancouver/Brooklyn outfit The Albertans have been up to, and in seeing as of late how they've been cropping up on a lot of the blogs I normally read, I figured now was as good a time as any to do so. I guess a bit has happened since last year, as the five-piece unit is now a quartet-Joel Bravo, Ian Everall, Curtis McLean, and Alison Yip-and have found some time post- New Age to commit a couple of new tunes to tape. New single "The Hunter" was recorded with [...]
If you're in the market for an epic, elegant EP of provocative pop this week (and really, who isn't? ), then look no further than The Albertans ' The Hunter . The sprawling and haunting single got its world premiere over at our pals Winnie Cooper last month, and will find its way to you via iTunes and a limited physical release on April 24. A bit has changed since the last time QBiM caught up with the continent-crossing Albertans (only two are actually from Alberta, by [...]

On April 24th The Albertans will be releasing a 73 titled The Hunter . It will have 3 songs, the others being "The Power" and "Ohio" two tracks that were not featured on the recent New Age album. The title track is groovy, it starts off in this slow rock rhythm but becomes this guitar frenzy half-way through. Joel Bravo's voice is haunting in the verses and full of energy in the choruses.
Vancouver-based quartet The Albertans (yeah, I don't get it either), are releasing a new 7" for the single The Hunter on April 24th. The title track will be backed by "The Power" and "Ohio" Listen to the lead cut here:

On April 24 2012, The Albertans will release ' The Hunter '. A haunting, elegant seven inch vinyl EP recorded with Joshua Stevenson ( Magnetic Rings ). The title track is an epic journey that leads you into a sinister foray of organ sounds and frenzied guitar. ' The Hunter ' was formed in the damp coves of Bowen Island (BC) and offers a glimpse into things and sounds to come. To celebrate, The Albertans are throwing a party at The Biltmore on Friday April 20th. Posted by [...]

After five seasons and an emotional rollercoaster of a finale, Chuck has finally come to an end. The NBC action-comedy show revolved around computer nerd-turned-spy Chuck Bartowski and his handlers Sarah Walker and John Casey. While fighting an infinite supply of villains and dealing with personal relationships that came along the way, the group grew incredibly close and ultimately became a family. Chuck has been known for its focus on indie rock in its soundtrack, using songs from the likes of The Shins, Arcade Fire, and Band of Horses. We'll miss Chuck, the hundreds [...]

I know, I know. Lazy. Unthoughtful. Worst blogger ever. Get it out of your system now. I took a bit of a hiatus when school decided to load on the pressure more than ever before, and unfortunately this blog took a bit of a back seat. But that's all done now, so let's get to it, shall we? The Albertans are Joel Bravo, Ian Everall, Curtis McLean, Krystin Monaghan, and Alison Yip. The quintet came together in Vancouver, but are defects from Alberta, Saskatchewan and the U.S. They've been on a musical journey for two years that's seen them travel by [...]

I first heard the Albertans because they used to practice in BeatRoute 's office. It turns out that the magazine wasn't the only good thing coming out of that room. As I previously wrote for Exclaim! , the band has a new album, New Age , which came out this month. Listen to the haunting, keyboard-led single "The Wake" below. It's got bleak lyrics, some pretty boy-girl harmonies, and extremely Modest Mouse -esque guitar breaks. These guys and girls are currently based out of [...]

Contrary to their name, the Albertans formed not in Alberta but the province next door, British Colombia . However while they reside in Vancouver , this excellent indie pop five piece came from a myriad of locales across Canada and even the U.S. and spent their early days as a band touring the roads of North America in a propane-fueled short bus. A rough journey that would take them all the way to New York to record and back to Vancouver again. Which brings us to now and the vibrant album they [...]

by teepoo Another band with a name that doesn't actually represent where they're based in. The Albertans are actually based in Vancouver and Brooklyn. I guess "the Vancouverians" or the "Brooklynians" don't sound so great as a band name so they stole another province. Some of them were from Alberta though and Saskatchewan. Joking aside, they're set to release their second record next month on April 19th, 2011, called New Age . Here's a track off the next release called The Wake . [...]

It isn't all rock 'n' roll fantasy, y'know. The Albertans -Joel Bravo, Ian Everall, Curtis McLean, Krystin Monaghan, and Alison Yip-came together in Vancouver, British Columbia, but are defects from Alberta, Saskatchewan and the U.S. They've been on a musical journey for two years that's seen them travel by propane-fueled short bus to San Diego and back, then cross North America to New York to record and playing shows along the way. They logged tens of thousands of miles, put up with broken down vehicles, and less than stellar sleeping conditions. [...]

Just having moved back from Brooklyn to Vancouver, indie rock quintet The Albertans , which have already released two great EP's, have announced the release of their debut record New Age . The first single will be the dangerously catchy "The Wake", accompanied by a weird, but nonetheless great video starring ape-like humans on their bycicles. Download the mp3 below! New Age will be out March 8 via Ernest Jenning Record Co . mp3 | The Wake

Today Winnie Cooper is super amped to announce the release of The Albertans' first single "The Wake" from their upcoming album New Age on Ernest Jennings (home to Cuff The Duke, O'Death, Still Filyin' and more!). These crafty little kitties just moved back to Vancouver from Brooklyn to deliver their unique pop prophecies to an appreciative west coast audience. They killed it last month in Vancouver at the BeatRoute Magazine Christmas party and they're about to do it again on January 14th at the Media Club alongside Minto and Henry & the Nightcrawlers .
