Mark Kozelek & Jimmy LaValle: Perils from the Sea - Are you stressed? Is this work-a-day life getting you down or making you feel weary? Do you feel like you just need to sit in a dark room and stare off into space? Then Perils of the Sea is for you. Perils of the Sea is the collaboration between Mark Kozelek, best known from his work in Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters , and Jimmy Lavalle, better known as The Album Leaf . The result [...]
Perils From the Sea comes about five years too late. I make this assertion for a pair of reasons. Perils is a collaborative album, one that splits the difference between Sun Kil Moon' s Mark Kozelek and the Album Leaf' s Jimmy Lavalle so neatly in half it may have been made on perforated paper. It seems about five years too late firstly because it's been about five years since those two names drew a crowd, unfair as that may be. And secondly, it seems five years too late because the sound the [...]
As JIMMY LAVALLE, multi-instrumentalist and head of THE ALBUM LEAF named MARK KOZELEK's music to be one of his major influences on various occasions, he might not have thought about collaborating with the former singer of legendary slowcore-institution RED HOUSE PAINTERS. And to be honest, a certain amount of scepticism felt appropriate indeed, when Perils The post Sun Kil Moon & The Album Leaf - Perils From The Sea appeared first on Nothing But Hope And Passion - NBHAP - Music Magazine & more .
As I mentioned when it was first announced that Mark Kozelek (of Sun Kil Moon) and Jimmy LaValle (of the Album Leaf) had joined forces to work on a new album: Kozelek has scaled back his musical operations considerably over the last decade or so. He's built one of modern music's richest catalogs dating back to 1992 - when his first album with Red House Painters was released - but since starting Sun Kil Moon in 2002, his live performances have been almost exclusively solo affairs (not counting his wonderful performance on Fallon [...]

Sun Kil Moon & The Album Leaf - Baby in Death Can I Rest Next to your Grave Extrait de Perils from the Sea (sortie le 30/04)

Stream another track from Sun Kil Moon and the Album Leaf from his debut collaborative LP, a very hypnotic 8-minute long track from Perils From The Sea entitled “Baby in Death Can I Rest Next To Your Grave". Perils From The Sea arrives on April 30th via Caldo Verde.

Sun Kil Moon and the Album Leaf shared another taste of their debut collaborative LP last week with this hypnotic 8-minute track from Perils From The Sea . With a title like "Baby in Death Can I Rest Next To Your Grave," you might expect a haunting cut, and Jimmy LaValle's spare instrumentation - recalling the more subtle parts of John Carpenter's Halloween theme a bit - provides such an ominous backdrop to Kozelek's dirgeful vocal. Unsettling yet lovely, this collaboration has proven to be more than the sum of its parts. Hear it above. Perils [...]

Sun Kil Moon's bitterly poignant and self-deprecating Among The Leaves was one of our favourite albums of last year and Mark Kozelek has wasted no time in following that up with a collaboration with The Album Leaf titled Perils From The Sea . It would appear that upbeat still remains a distant expectation with titles like Baby In Death Can I Rest Next To Your Grave... only an eight minute epic too. The album is out at the end of April on Caldo Verde Records . Have a listen. [...]

Here's a long burner for your hump day. The newest track posted from Teen Daze's upcoming release Inner Mansions is a 7+ minute track, but don't let that scare you, it's worth the ride. "Discipleship" begins Album Leaf-esque with Rhodes piano over ambient noise, but soon jazz drums enter the picture and by the 2 [...]

Menomena – Heavy is as Heavy Does [mp3] (from Moms , out now) Justin Harris and Danny Seim soldier on as a duo (minus founding member Brent Knopf who left to pursue his solo project Ramona Falls). The new album is more cohesive than previous collections, with their multi-layered, intricate approach to experimental indie rock focusing more on the subject of family relationships (but still brandishing their bare-knuckled take on friendship and sexuality).
