This sudden shift into spring has left me feeling completely inverted. The sounds that were ably soothing me through the winter months now seem innapproiate and out of context. Rather than intensify the hunt for new material, I've found myself searching frantically in dark corners, sifting through the debris of ...
The Album Leaf is classically trained multi-instrumentalist Jimmy LaVelle's electronic solo-project. During the Fall of 2001, The Album Leaf opened for Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós during their US tour. During this tour, LaValle secured the use of Sigur Rós' Icelandic studio "Sundlaugin" for his third album, In a Safe Place, as well as the services of many of its band members. Some tracks from "In a Safe Place" have been used in the television series "the O.C." as well as other shows on CBS, NBC and Showtime. [...]

today i am waiting to be able to go to work so i can be ready to start work for real in a few weeks. problem is, i have to sit here at my house and wait for the lovely folks from purolator to deliver my laptop from dell, and they really don't say when they might be here. (to be honest, the website kept telling me it was supposed to be here yesterday, but we all know that the internet doesn't think labour day should be a holiday). thankfully, the finance dept at dell is all good, seeing as [...]

The cover of Lay Of The Land , the 2004 debut from Nottingham, UK's Seachange on Matador looks familiar, but that may be because I've seen it peeking out from a used CD bin or two in my time. Well next time I see it I will be sure to pick it up because what I've heard from this band lately is pretty damn good. There's something of British Sea Power's grand romanticism in Seachange's sound as well as some of the punkish energy of early [...]
![Double//Monday [Mp3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/229566_lg.jpg)
Few words for today, to be honest (and silly considering this blog has an overwhelming readership of One, being yours truly) I'm putting this up now because I'd like to stick with consistency in the post department, particularly if the nature of that post (ie. Double//Monday) is restricted to the particular weekday of said posting. But here I have my brother flip-flopping on his creaky bed behind me, heaving big annoyed sighs with book in hand, waiting for me to hurry up and get the hell off of his computer so my tip-tap-typing presence will no longer be a disruptive [...]
Hey everyone, Paul here with a guest submission from Slade, a long-time reader and friend of The Yellow Stereo . Seriously, been a reader almost since the time I started this back in April. Anywho, enjoy his selections and if anyone else would like to submit anything, you're always welcome! Usually when I see a familiar band listed on The Yellow Stereo I also start thinking about other familar bands. Maybe they sound similar, have been on tour together, live and record in the same country, [...]

The last we heard from Album Leaf, they had released "In A Safe Place", a beautiful mix of melodic daydreams. Well good news has come, as they have released a new album "Into The Blue Again." I am happy to report it is more of the same Album Leaf we all love. Their dreamy mix of electronics with instrumentals blends perfectly. It is hard to believe that this group hails from San Diego, California. Great music like this reminds me of Iceland (Sigur Ros anyone?). If you're driving home one night and deciding what to listen to, put in The [...]
11 good songs for you on the last day of august: The Decemberists - Summersong - a new song from the new album, - said to be the weakest song on the album, which makes me really optimistic, cause I like it a lot... From pitchfork. Monomen - asian spacestation - new track from this norwegian band. from their bandsite. Thanks for the tip, Bates Motel! Peter, Bjorn & John: "Young folks" (ft.
"HOW FORMED: Pure bedroom boredom (think what you will)" That's more or less sums up The Album Leaf . Mellow electronica often suitable to fill the bedroom on Sunday, Album leaf never fails to sooth. Formed in 1998 by Jimmy LaValle (The Black Heart Procession, Tristeza) mixes the elements of ambient, jazz, and post-rock to form music that create space between minimalist electronica and slower post-rock. The Album Leaf : Brennivin , Seal Beach EP + Bonus Tracks (Better Looking, ) The [...]

Hey guys, Paul M. is back again today with another post about The Album Leaf . I remember seeing them open for Sigur Rós back in 2002, and they were good enough to make me buy One Day I'll Be On Time that was released in 2001. - Paul G. Hey, thought I'd give you a little something something since I got an email from Sub Pop about [...]

San Diego, CA The Album Leaf is Jimmy Lavalle . The new album is called Into The Blue Again , and it’s out via Sub Pop on September 12. Just like his three previous releases, it’s full of dreamy electronic soundscapes and very nice to relax with or fall asleep to. I suggest checking this out if you’re into stuff like Tristeza , which happens to be another band Jimmy used to be in. [...]
"World on Fire" by Jed and Lucia is a wonderful electronic folk number off of their album Candles in Daylight. It's simple, elegant, potent, and perfect to start a Sunday morning. Jed and Lucia - World on Fire.mp3 Have I told you lately how awesome Galaxie 500 was? No? Well they were quite the awesome band. "Here She Comes Now" is a Velvet Underground cover that can be found on the expanded release of Galaxie 500's 1990 album This is Our Music. Galaxie 500 [...]

Got burnted out there for a sec. Not even cause I was low on the goods. I've actually got an obscene amount of "hey, would you look at that's" and "well, I'll be's" bookmarked for the sharering. It's overwhelming. Just thinking about it all is almost like mental quicksand to me....ahhhh! ::smother:: Oh, and of course, there's "Reason" too, all trying to wedge it's way into my head like, "ummm..wait, now why ARE you doing this? No no no...serious...like, what do you actually GET out of this??? And don't give me some cornball personal satisfaction shit...", at which [...]
Jimmy Lavalle is the man behind the Album Leaf although he has a full live band to call upon. Many were first drawn to them through their collaboration with Sigur Ros on the third album ‘In A Safe Place’ which was recorded in the mercurial foursome’s own Icelandic studios (a converted swimming pool no less). The results were faintly disappointing yet there were moments of genuine beauty like the

The Album Leaf is the solo project of Jimmy LaValle, a man who has played in such bands as Tristeza, The Black Heart Procession and The Locust, among others. Considering his involvement with such an interesting ensemble of musicians, it may seem strange that his solo project is what has gotten him the most attention. But it has. His last full-length album, In A Safe Place , was released by Sub Pop and eventually found its way onto the soundtrack of a few episodes of The O.C., gaining him plenty of new fans and leaving many to wonder when [...]
Growing up is a strange process. It seems that I look back on my high school years as a complete world in and of its self. The romance of puppy love, the innocence of hormones, puberty, first kisses, last kisses, junior varsity, tardiness, “unsatisfactory behavior,†yearbooks. It was all there and is associated with that place that many (do to the fact that we grew up there and our parents
